You have good friends.

Mac Sirloin 12-16-2010 09:38 AM

Ponyo: Serious business.

Or maybe you're arguing that it isn't. I can't really tell.

STM 12-16-2010 09:45 AM

1984 - A good interpretation of the book but I felt that it was better in my minds eye but then, books are generally better than the films right?

Wings of Fire 12-16-2010 10:41 AM

What version? The 1950's version is a horrible trainwreck and anyone who enjoys it should be shot for being cultural detritus.

The 1984 version is pretty good though.

STM 12-16-2010 10:48 AM

The coloured one, I didn't know there was a 50s one, why is it bad?

Cos Joe said so!

Wings of Fire 12-16-2010 12:04 PM

They changed it so it was about Communism being evil and it ends on a high.

STM 12-16-2010 12:11 PM

Really? WTF that's not the book at all.

Wings of Fire 12-16-2010 12:24 PM

You know how the book ends with Wintson realizing he loves Big Brother, and that's like the ultimate downer? The movie ends with him thinking back to Julia and yelling 'I LOVE YOU!', implying that he won in the end and The (communist) Party can't crush the human spirit.

Of course there a subtle hints throughout the book that INGSOC collapses long after Winston's death, but still.

That is the most fucking ridiculous thing I have heard in my life. It's worse than the ending of the cartoon of Animal Farm, or the updated ending to The Fly (the old one).

T-nex 12-16-2010 01:05 PM

You know what movie along the lines really depressed me? Brazil.

Dunno... It had a really sad and creepy ending. The movie itself was good though, and had comedic value.

It's most likely that the government put pressure on the studios responsible for both of these productions to make them more 'Communism bad, we'll win in the end'. I read a long article about it last year after I'd finished reading 1984 and watched both versions.

MeechMunchie 12-16-2010 01:26 PM

Fucking Cappies.

Daxter King 12-16-2010 05:31 PM

Princess and the Frog.

I liked it.

Nate 12-21-2010 03:55 PM

Saw Harry Potter and thought it was quite good. Absolutely loved the Tale of the Three Brothers sequence. Also, there was far less wandering around with nothing much happening than I expected.

Wings of Fire 12-21-2010 04:04 PM

goddamnit

scrabface 12-21-2010 04:15 PM

I have just seen Machete. I had a good time constantly laughing in the cinema. although the finale could have been a lot better.

Dynamithix 12-23-2010 02:00 AM

Inception.

It was really amazing, but I might have to watch it again to completely understand the plot.

I understood that the levels went like

Real life >
Dream >
Dream's dream >
Dream's dream's dream >
Limbo

Fixed.

April and I took Abbey to see True Grit yesterday. It was excellent. It was a surprisingly straight forward western for being a Coen Bros. film, but it was so expertly crafted that it didn't need all the quirks that they usually put in. Some scenes need to be seen in a theatre to get their full effect.

Abbey really liked it.

I have a feeling that you didn't like the movie.

Mac Sirloin 12-25-2010 03:16 PM

I actually enjoyed Inception quite a bit, including the silly 'Dream Science'. I just felt the need to be the first person in the whole world ever to point out how it was pretty silly anyway.

Me and Jordan (attempted) to watch this Bollywood film called Golmaal 3. This isn't particularly noteworthy except for one specific scene, linked below.

Now, just for context let me give you the low down: The group of three are the Older guy sitting in front of the television's sons. The other two are the lady's. They just got married, but the two groups don't like each other because they keep ruining each other's get rich quick schemes. Watch at your own risk.

Understand there is nothing to 'get' here. It has nothing to do with anything and is never mentioned again. They're just having some kind of...contest.

The guy who wanders away to pick up the lamp is an ultimate badass, though.

Dynamithix 12-26-2010 02:06 AM

I got Expendables for my dad for Christmas and we watched it yesterday. It was enjoyable, but it needed more Schwarzenegger and Willis. :D

EDIT:

Just saw Rare Exports. It was fucking amazing, I really recommend it. It's not much like the brutal short films it's based on, but it truly is very good.

OANST 12-27-2010 06:49 AM

Black Swan.

Black Fucking Swan.

Anyway, it's fantastic. Aronofsky is a genius, and Natalie Portman gave one of the best performances I have ever seen. By the end she is simultaneously beautiful, terrifying, vulnerable, and oppressive. I can't say enough about this movie. Go see it.

T-nex 12-27-2010 08:53 AM

Damn you guys and you being in the future <.< Denmark is always so slow with the good movies... *sad*

scrabface 12-28-2010 05:02 AM

If it helps, I have to wait too till the 21st of January...

Nemo 12-29-2010 03:39 AM

Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Slenderman Aliens will haunt my dreams from now on.

Jango 12-30-2010 10:00 AM

Has anyone seen the last series of 'Peep Show'? It's been brilliant, hasn't it? Apparently though (according to David Mitchell's twitter), there won't be another series until 2012.

STM 12-30-2010 03:27 PM

Mitchell was just on Never Mind the Buzzcocks with Ceelo Green and Chris Packham. Was a good episode that.

MeechMunchie 12-31-2010 05:18 AM

No, it was Webb.

Saw Stranger Than Fiction again. Still brilliant.
