I think I've seen audiosurf, isn't it GH meets cubefield? See that is why I think I don't like the genre, there's nothing you can do with it that doesn't recycle or implement existing titles.

I think Audiosurf will be one of the only successful music games. A music game has to make listening to the music an important part of gameplay. That's why Beat Hazard and Polynominal didn't work.

I guess that makes sense. Polynomial's gameplay isn't really that much based on music, as the light/graphics is.

Either way, the only other music game I also like is DDR... but I guess most know that by now :p It's a fun way to get exercise too... Although thats not why I started playing.

Dynamithix 03-06-2011 02:22 PM

I bought Beat Hazard at summer when it was dirt cheap. I enjoyed it.

Or ignore the whole fucking genre. Music games, the entire genre are shit, learn an instrument or gtfo.

stopped listening to your argument here because audiosurf doesn't involve instruments.

nice try though

I agree. Among the games that I've tried, Audiosurf has been the only one to accurately reflect the tempo and mood of the music, and to do a good job of integrating it in to the gameplay.

What do you mean it's overrated? x_x I havent heard/seen people talk about it or anything.

Overrated because, as I said, the controls were meh and I couldn't work out what I was meant to be doing. And because the music aspect was so badly integrated that I'd completely forgotten until now that it was meant to be a music game.

Woah, nelly. I'm not the biggest fan of Music games, but Audiosurf is the fucking shit. Better recognize, fool.

Well if it makes scrabtrapman feel any better the Hero series is discontinued so no more Guitar Hero or DJ Hero games.

Guitar Hero was a long time coming but I was liking the DJ Hero stuff, although that would end up being milked to death too.

Phylum 03-06-2011 04:04 PM

STM, actually look at the game you're criticizing for fucks sake.

STM 03-07-2011 08:15 AM

What do you mean? I know of or have seen/ played every game I talked about. I hate the genre simple as, it's not like I'm hiding a bloody cure for cancer. If you like it fair play.

Dixanadu 03-07-2011 10:46 AM

I don't think there's any genre of game I hate.

I find enjoyment in everything from Sports to FPS.

It's a shame, because a record deck is one of the only 'instruments' you could successfully condense into four stabbable buttons and a slider.

The boyfriend let me play his Pokémon White Version. It's actually freaking awesome. It could very well be my favourite generation after the second gen.

Mr. Bungle 03-07-2011 02:04 PM

Yeah, I've actually heard great things about it, such as a more fast-paced battle system. That was something I felt was terrible about Diamond: it took fucking forever just to use an attack.

You have a boyfriend now?! Damn, it seems like everyone is hooking up at the moment but me.

Oh, and ontopic, I started playing Stacking but got motion sickness and put it down and forgot about it for a little while. I really need to turn on my PS3 more often; I realised today that the hard drive was full and every PlayTV recording was failing.

STM 03-08-2011 08:07 AM

Even I have a boyf Nate and I'm straight. (Joking)

Is there actually a better Pokemon game than the first one after the black and white versions? I don't know the colour name though.

Wings of Fire 03-08-2011 08:31 AM

Platinum, HeartGold and SoulSilver and the three they're remakes of; Gold Silver and Crystal are commonly claimed to be better than the first generation.

Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald are usually cited as the weakest games, whilst Diamond and Pearl are good but not great. Of course, I like them all and really think they've only been getting better.

Dynamithix 03-08-2011 08:54 AM

I thought Emerald was pretty sweet when I got it. Diamond was cool, but I didn't like it that much. My friend bought Diamond, Pearl AND Platinum. Hah, what a dumbass.

Wings of Fire 03-08-2011 09:11 AM

I have a friend who bought Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, SoulSilver, Black and White. I don't think he's a dumbass at all, just very much a fanboy of the franchise.

To my name at some point or another I've had Blue, Yellow, Stadium, Gold, Silver, Stadium 2, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Colloseum, LeafGreen, Diamond, Platinum, HeartGold and White.

Dynamithix 03-08-2011 09:20 AM

I only have Fire Red, Emerald and Diamond. Those are enough for me.

But trust me, my friend is a dumbass, he never even played Pearl, he just played Diamond the whole time. I think he tried Platinum like once or twice, but he didn't play that one either really. And a while ago he tried to sell me his Pearl (since it's still like new.) for 35€ which is just stupid.

Mr. Bungle 03-08-2011 11:00 AM

Diamond sucked, I didn't like it at all. I played Emerald/Sapphire the most, maybe. I played Gold and Blue a lot, though. It's close.

Ridg3 03-08-2011 11:19 AM

Crystal <3

But the original 151 takes precedence over every other Pokemon.

Mr. Bungle 03-08-2011 12:26 PM

I dunno, man. Fucking Heracross.

Crystal <3

High-five Crystal buddy.

That and Silver are the only versions I've ever owned and played for more than an hour. New versions just look dumb to me.

Wings of Fire 03-08-2011 12:43 PM

I always wanted Crystal.

And now to tell you guys the truth, and the truth is that the mechanics and gameplay have gotten better in every succesive pokemon game. Saying Red and Blue are good games now is like saying Dragonball Z is a good show. It's nostalgia talking. It was good for its time but it has so many flaws that it just can't compete now.

The subjectivity with pokemon is to do with the designs, this is also a nostalgia thing, but I would somewhat agree that G1 and 2 had better designs that 3 and 4.

G5 has not only increased the quality of designs back to G1-2 level, but also gotten rid of all the little bits of unecessary baggage that the series carried on from Red and Blue which just serve to piss people off. Examples being that poison no longer effects outside of battle, pokemon are easier to capture, low level moves like Tackle and Scratch have been balanced with their power going up somewhat, and the introduction of the pseudostarter monkeys has pretty much balanced the low to mid level gameplay by ensuring you always have two of the elemental triad easily available.

So yeah, it's good.

Steamer_KING 03-08-2011 12:45 PM

Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike. Good ol' memories.

metroixer 03-08-2011 12:59 PM

I wouldn't say Gen 5 is Gen 1-2 levels of pokemon design but, as you said, rose colored glasses are hard to take off.

I don't know what it is about Gen 3 that makes it the weakest. I KNOW it is but I'm not sure why. I guess it's because while it introduced some cool stuff; growing your own berries, natures, and double battles. It's also the reason we have dumb fluff now like pokemon contests and bad guys that try to justify what they're doing. To be fair though, team plasma is the coolest out of the post-team rocket teams yet.

Wings of Fire 03-08-2011 01:02 PM

I also love how G2 are the most commercially and critically acclaimed games (Even my favourites) yet have the very weakest plot.

So weak that the manga disregarded it altogether and created a new epic sprawling plot for it with Pryce as the villain.

Manco 03-08-2011 01:04 PM

I'm not sure if people really play Pokemon for the plot.

Jordan 03-08-2011 01:08 PM

I think me saying Generation 2 is better than Gen 5 is most likely nostalgia speaking, as Joe said... I dunno, Gold/Silver were fun games back in the day but they're not too fun to play now.
Only thing that irks me a little about Black/White is the fact that you can't re-battle trainers and gym leaders, which will have a 99% chance of being changed in the 3rd version, kind of annoying actually. Other than that, I don't think I've seen any faults.

I'm not sure if people really play Pokemon for the plot.

I play pokemon for world immersion, so an identifiable foe helps with that.

Giovanni was God tier, the Rocket Admins in G2 are ass tier, Archie and Maxie are low tier, Cyrus is mid tier (High tier in Platinum) and N is high/God tier.

Mac Sirloin 03-08-2011 01:22 PM

Oh man, anime fans tiering Pokemon villains. My absolute favorite.

I'm playing Super Meat Boy again.

I never thought about it that way, really - to me the plot for Crystal was just to train Pokemon, beat the Elite Four and live the dream.

I am a cruel bastard who cares more about winning battles than saving the world, but hey my Mewtwo apparently loved me so I guess that worked out okay?

Wings of Fire 03-08-2011 01:29 PM

That's absolutely fine and most people are like that way, but I'm that odd type of game series fanboy whose tastes run in the opposite direction to being the best there is at the game itself.

Bullet Magnet 03-08-2011 03:59 PM

You are a Vorthos. As am I.

Disgruntled Intern 03-10-2011 12:29 PM

Playing Torchlight, quite enjoying it.

Hazel-Rah 03-11-2011 03:11 PM

Tron Evolution, pretty cool game, definitely worth it if you like Tron or Prince of Persia but it takes some patience as you'll be dying a million times a level. I'm thinking it'll be more fun once I've beaten it through once and know what's coming at me.

Strike Witch 03-12-2011 12:31 AM

Finished Dragon Age 2.

It wrapped up about as well as the first game, only with a more immediate epilogue instead of the text boxes.

I really enjoyed it.

Hazel-Rah 03-12-2011 07:02 AM

I can't believe there's DLC available for Dragon Age 2 already, they couldn't include that content on the disc? Christ, what a scam.

Dynamithix 03-12-2011 08:46 AM

Maybe it's included in some special edition? (I don't know if DA2 even has one though.)

Ridg3 03-12-2011 09:56 AM

That's Evil Arts for ya, trying to scam as much money off the customers before the final nail gets sunk into the coffin of the game series.
