Chopper's a great film. is he really such a popular guy in australia? http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SZf10aq4Kv...r-is-happy.jpg |
I'm watching the first season of The Office (US) again, I absolutely love it. They should have just stopped after a few seasons, I can't even make myself watch the eighth season, it got so bad.
|
First three seasons were phenomenal. If you like The Office you should watch Veep. It reminds me of it in ways, only a fair bit crazier and without as much of a mockumentary feeling.
it makes a fuckin MESS |
I finally watched Toy Story 3. I have had the DVD on my shelf for more than a year, but I hadn't really had time or interest to watch it earlier.
Goddamn it, it was great. I'm not going to lie, I really cried at the end. I remember watching the original Toy Story movies soon after they came out here and this was just an amazing way to end the movies. Maybe I should dig up my old toys... |
I saw Wreck-It Wralph.
While at times it came across as a bit of a wannabe Toy Story, overall I thought it was a decent film. It was less of an "IP parade" than all the marketing made it out to be, and there are only a couple of short shots in the entire film dedicated to cramming in as many references as possible. In fact, I was slightly surprised by how small the main cast was; just three or four important figures, fewer than the inhabitants of Andy's bedroom. Most oddly, my main complaint would be that the comedy was hit-and-miss, and the action fairly bland. The emotional sequences were, for the most part, quite involving and very well executed, particularly the cart-smashing one. I was watching it at four in the morning, so I may have cried a little at Ralph's "feels" moment. |
True.

Just got back from seeing Star Trek Into Darkness. In my opinion it was fantastic and pretty much top-quality entertainment all the way through. I felt that it surpassed the original film and developed the characters in an interesting way. The villain Harrison was very interesting and there are some fantastic performances all around. Visually it's quite similar to Mass Effect and the tone definitely fits with the original TV show, exploration, diplomacy, plot twists... Well worth the ticket price. |
Since Daft Punk have pretty much saturated the universe as of late, I watched Interstella 5555. I liked it, but I like most things without dialogue. I find non-verbal communication interesting.
It's also anime, so there's that. |

I just caught the most recent episode of GoT. Holy shit, I did not see that ending coming!
FUCK YOU HOUSE FREY! |
Watched the first two episodes of Firefly today after been recommend it by a mate.
I'm enjoying it quite a lot. It's funny at times and I like the characters and their interactions. I also know it's a short series, which to be honest I'm kinda glad. I don't like when TV shows have waay too many episodes. Hopefully it will be a short but sweet show. |
Cun't Crammer.
|
I tried watching the first episode. Didn't really like it.

It all felt a bit too cheesy and tried a bit too hard to be clever and funny, I think.

It was also a radio series before but I missed that. |
Fuck yeah. The radio series was called Blue Jam, I'm pretty sure it's on youtube.
I recommend everybody watches this. |
I watched Hangover 3. If you like the first two, you'll probably like this too. If you didn't like the first two, you'll hate this one. It was sort of funny.
|
I have been re-watching Breaking Bad on Netflix, almost finished season four now. Goddamn it's a great show and jesus christ this scene always gives me goosebumps.
|
I just watched Lost in translation. Really enjoyed it, it was sort of relaxing to watch. I liked the soundtrack. I also liked Bill Murray but that goes without saying.
|
To break the constant chain of Breaking Bad, I've been watching the Following. All I have to say is that it's amazing.
|
I watched a Korean movie called Oldboy. It was very good, great even. In fact, it was one of the best movies I have seen. Watch it, it's on Netflix. What are you waiting for? Go watch it.
|
I watched Oldboy. It was interesting. I couldn't tell if it was actually good because the only version on Netflix was the English dubbed one, and the voice acting was so bad that it was extremely distracting.
|
Well that sucks. The version I watched had subtitles available.
|
Finished watching all of Firefly. It was such a shame it was cancelled even before it had a chance. Going to watch Serenity tonight to wrap things up nicely.

There's 30 million people here and they all just let themselves die!
|
Saw Man of Steel last night. I went in with sufficiently low expectations that I actually quite enjoyed it. Here are my thoughts.
Henry Cavill is a hottie. The early structure of the film is a bit too similar to Batman Begins for my liking. Protagonist runs away from home, escapes in to the world. Finds reasons to return. We find out about early life through flashbacks. Etc. The ending seems to be drawing on the unfortunate tradition of The Avengers (and maybe also some of the Transformers movies, but I've only seen the first one) in that to create a sense of scale and significant risk they smash a large portion of a city. And the good guy(s) do just as much damage as the antagonists. And very few people are seen to actually die, despite the difficulty of evacuating a building in a short amount of time, let alone an entire city. And afterwards no-one addresses the massive cleanup and rebuilding, not to mention effects on the economy due to a large number of businesses being totally destroyed. Basically what I'm saying is that it's becoming a cliche and completely destroys any sort of dramatic tension for me - I find I don't care about anyone in the city and just sit there bored while the special affects are thrown at me. But everything before the action moved to Metropolis was quite good. |
I finally sat down and watched Twin Peaks. I absolutely loved the first season, it was bizarre, disturbing, funny, lovely and all kinds of things, I loved it. The second season? Not so much. I still enjoyed watching it, but definitely not as much as season one. It sort of lost its touch, especially when they basically started adding episodes after the main plot of the series was finished. The Windom Earle episodes were unnecessary in my opinion (even though they were still quite good though). Bob wasn't as disturbing/unnerving anymore in the later episodes because they just started showing him everywhere, sort of ruined the scary surprising element he had. Also, what the fuck was that final episode?! A shit ton of cliffhangers, 20 minutes of nonsense and one of the creepiest and strangest endings to a TV show ever. I was quite pleased I hadn't been spoiled of the show as the final scene completely surprised me, but I'm not sure what to make of it. Overall a very weird, but great TV series.
|
Oh yeah, Twin Peaks started out absolutely amazing but a lot of shit went down with season 2. A lot of executive meddling and such and basically the murderer was forced to be revealed earlier than planned. This was because viewers started to pretty much lose interest since the murder mystery had already been dragged on for a shitload of time, and then after all of that was wrapped up, the show was pretty much lost its direction. Or at least this is what I've discovered through researching the show.
And it also didn't help that David Lynch wasn't really involved that much afterwards because he was busy doing working on another movie at the time. The last episode has so many cliffhangers because it wasn't originally planned to be the final episode, there were plans for a third season, but the show was cancelled. If you want you could also watch the movie, which is hated by a lot people (which is understandable). The movie isn't horrible. In some ways it's kind of a letdown, because of the fact that it doesn't really clear up any of the cliffhangers since it's a prequel revolving around Laura Palmer, and the beginning of the film has some continuity errors as well, and it generally opens up even more questions, but there are still some really good parts in it. It's also a lot more darker and morbid and disgusting. |
Falling Down. Hilarious, tense and really makes you ponder some of society's conventions. Really recommended for fans of Breaking Bad.
I don't want lunch. I WANT BREAKFAST. |
i fucking love that film. the golf course scene cracks me up.
i saw Paradox Soldiers. foreign with subtitles. it looked low budget, and i don't mind that, but the main characters and their fucking acting, jesus christ. they were shit. the ending was shit too. it was alright i spose, could have been a shit-ton better because the premise was a good idea and the side actors weren't bad, but they fucked it up with main crap actors and adding shitty music. actually no it was bollocks. don't watch it. |
Went to see Pacific Rimjob.
Here is my mostly spoiler-free review. Pacific Rim is very heavily inspired by several giant robot stories, franchises, and styles. From Robot Jox to Battletech to Gigantor to Evangelion there's a lot of hints of everything. However these never overtake the original creation that makes up Pacific Rim itself, which is great, because it means the movie is its own beast. What Pacific Rim does well is build a believable, well-detailed, beautiful world and then proceeds to try its best to sell you on it. This is an incredibly detailed film with tons of design and forethought put into every setpiece and prop. It's incredibly polished and visually rewarding, and you really feel like you're neck-deep in the atmosphere. The art style, design, architecture, monster design, and the Jaegers themselves all look fantastic and move with weight and power. This film looks great and sounds great too with some really triumphant, dramatic BGM full of pomp and circumstance. The battles themselves are great to watch, the Jaegers and the Kaiju wail on each other like a cross between Battletech and pro-wrestling, and every battle is full of nasty damage and crazy blue Kaiju gore. However, the vast majority of the battles in the film take place at night, in the rain, and on the ocean floor, which means that they have to rely heavily on lighting and good camera-angles to convey a fight. Most of the time, they manage to do this, using realistic yet clever cues from helicopter spotlights to the Kaiju's internal jaw glows. That said, there are a lot of murky, water-clogged shots (especially in the harbour battle) where you can't really follow what's happening because it's less of a fight and more of a monster dogpile. But hey, there's some really good moments here. Then there's the pacing, which is frankly all over the place. The movie begins with a slightly awkward and overly long intro monologue then jumps right into a really exciting and dramatic brawl before reaching the credits, then there's a lull, a short battle, another rather long lull that is probably the worst part of the film, then a really great part, another short lull, and so forth. The problem with this big lull is that it's all about character development, yet a bunch of cast members barely get any screentime. You've got the protagonist, the heroine, a few bits with Striker Eureka's crew, and then rather surprisingly the lion's share of funny moments and exposition end up coming from these two dorky scientist characters who somehow manage to steal the show in the non-robot parts. I think they're inspired by scientist heroes from Godzilla films but here it just seems like a few of their moments could have been shared with the Jaeger pilots instead of happening in the lab and in Hong Kong. Then there's Cherno Alpha and Crimson Typhoon's pilots who get barely any dialog at all and are just there in a few background shots when not fighting monsters despite a rather dramatic introduction of them and their Jaegers at the start of the lull. Also receiving the short end of the stick is Ron Perlman's character who barely gets any amusing lines and doesn't really do much except for a few scenes with the scientists, and Coyote Tango barely shows up at all despite receiving front-billing with the others. On the bright side Mako is incredibly cute and fun and her scenes with her surrogate father and our hero are pretty good. As to the directing, I think that some lines feel very awkward at points and the whole movie is naturally dripping in cheese, though that's part of the charm. Some actors steal the show, others just feel like extras, and others really are extras. Concerning the plot itself, I think the human side of it is great but everything else concerning the Kaiju and so forth is explained rather quickly and other parts left vague, however to Del Toro's credit the plot resolution and several Chekov's Gun moments are tied in well to the narrative so there aren't really any plotholes. Ultimately this is a fun film, but it has really erratic pacing and the narrative I found to really drag around the middle as well as some things I would have done differently like character development. However it's made with a loving hand and the action is fantastic, so it's definitely a movie to check out. 7/10 |
I only want to watch it because GLaDOS.
|
She's not actually in it.
|
Her voice is, though.
|
I've been watching Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Really watching it for the first time, I'd seen clips on YouTube and such but never sat down and watched a full episodes. Holy shit that show is funny. The Mooninites are the best characters- I love how sassy and dickish they are.
