Local Multiplayer was the highlight of the 80s/90s. Now, since we have the internet, the whole world is our opponent. That means 24/7 gaming sometimes.

And?

Dynamithix 07-02-2012 12:29 PM

I played through Dragon's Lair. It was a fun short adventure.

JennyGenesis 07-02-2012 01:24 PM

I saw you playing that, I only played the trial, to be honest, playing the trial is essentially like playing the whole game, and I'm sure there's a port out there that would cost less than buying the XBLA version.

Just have your parents buy it for you. Fuck.

Ever played Capcom vs. SNK? They have at this video rental store near my place, I considered buying it since I love Capcom fighters.

Yeah, I rented Capcom vs SNK EO for the original Xbox back in the day, it was the first fighting game I ever played online actually. It was fun, I would definitely buy it if I ever saw it, but I am diehard SNK. I have always been terrible at Street Fighter, especially pulling off special moves. Fatal Fury's special moves are more bare bones and require less button combinations; also, since regular attacks do so much damage it kind of prevents veteran players from having an overwhleming advantage like they always do in Capcom fighting games. Plus I like the character designs in SNK fighters better, they're edgy in a cool 90s way and SNK chicks are slammin' with their more developed bodies.

Also, fuck online multiplayer, it'll never be as fun as local...

I got it for free though, I would never buy it for the price it's going for in the marketplace.

JennyGenesis 07-02-2012 02:17 PM

As in the free trial?

Or you got the full game for free?

OANST 07-02-2012 02:22 PM

I can definitely see why people who don't have the nostalgia of playing that game in the arcade may not fall in love with it, but that game was the shit when I was a kid.

JennyGenesis 07-02-2012 02:26 PM

I can understand why it was the shit when you were young, it was totally different to everything else at the time, and even today it still looks good, but really it's a very linear game where you only press buttons that appear on the screen. There are older games that yes, graphically they were nowhere near as good but they were less linear and the player had more control.

Think of pong, it's just a dot and a couple of lines but the player has freedom to do what they want and the outcome is not the same everytime.

Wow, you've said something of value that has really opened my eyes to the point you were trying to get across.

I got the full version for free because a Facebook group was giving out tons of codes for arcade games and add-ons in celebration of ~6000 fans and I managed to grab Dragon's Lair and the Fenix Rising DLC for Gears of War 3.

Also, I played it through a few more times, this time on hard difficulty (you just have to react faster) and the arcade mode. The arcade mode is a lot more different and more fun I'd say.

Is it also more better, do you think?

Dynamithix 07-02-2012 03:40 PM

I think it's more than less.

OANST 07-02-2012 03:44 PM

Is it more worser?

Dynamithix 07-02-2012 04:15 PM

Less betterer.

Strike Witch 07-03-2012 02:45 AM

There's more than meets the eye!

MeechMunchie 07-03-2012 08:52 AM

I've met more eyes than people.

Nepsotic 07-03-2012 09:23 AM

Do you think they know they spelt it wrong?

After months of trying, I finally managed to get Titanic: Adventure Out Of Time, a very underrated PC game from 1996. There's some videos of it on Youtube. It has an amazing storyline to it but it is very politics heavy some some prior knowledge is recommended, since the goal of the game is to prevent the world wars and the Russian revolution. You play a British secret service agent, initially the agency puts you on the Titanic to investigate why a man working for the German government has boarded a ship with a very valuable book that was stolen from Paris, from there things become much bigger and the end of the game does a very good job of explaining how events on the Titanic lead to wars and revolution.

Even though I got it running, for whatever reason, on the Windows XP computer I'm using, the load times are very long, but the game was designed for Windows 95 so that probably explains it, I have had a few crashes, so I've been needing to save frequently.

It has a far more interesting storyline than the James Cameron movie.

Varrok 07-03-2012 10:39 AM

Do they die at the end?

Do they die at the end?

It's up to you, the very end of the game where the ship is sinking has a lot of different possible outcomes, your actions control who dies and who lives, in fact, by just talking to a character gets him killed, because part of the conversation involves him trying to jump on a life boat and one of the officers shoot him.

Varrok 07-03-2012 10:46 AM

Can I save everybody?

JennyGenesis 07-03-2012 11:01 AM

Nope, a couple of characters cannot be saved.

Unless it has pterodactlys, yeah.

OANST 07-03-2012 11:07 AM

This forum is in dire need of more pterodactyl porn.

doomcorner64 07-03-2012 11:15 AM

Been playing some more Twilight Princess. I've just beat the Temple of Time and am trying to get onto the next dungeon.Skyward Sword is better.

In Abe's Odeyessedsasdsdjwhicfhklcfv, I'm finally onto Paramonia (I think that's what it's called, anyway.) Scrabania Nests was very annoying, because I didn't know that you could roll while running (I pressed X, but apparently you have to mash it a few times to get Abe to roll).

Nepsotic 07-03-2012 12:33 PM

Must be your controller, are you on PSX or PC? I also didn't know you could run into a roll the first time I played through it.

But SW is allowed anime!

Oh, that's quite unrealistic : / The game looks nice from gameplay videos, and talking heads remind me of Fallout games

She's got more rep than you, sorry u.u

Bixer 07-03-2012 12:47 PM

Finished Abe's Oddysee again the other day. Contemplated starting Abe's Exoddus straight after (as I've never actually completed it), but I thought I'd take a brief break from Oddworld so I've started Resident Evil 4 again. Just as good as I remember it.

Got a lot of gaming to get through this summer. Aiming to complete Skyward Sword, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3 (and probably 4) and of course Abe's Exoddus. All until the next Fifa/Pro Evolution comes out and I'm hooked for 6-8 months.

How? the Titanic didn't have enough lifeboats for all of the passengers.

OANST 07-03-2012 01:06 PM

Clearly Varrok is a superhero, and had he been there no one would have died.

Varrok 07-03-2012 01:14 PM

You call it superhero, I call it... the safety inspector

I loved that game back in the day. I got mildly obsessed with just wandering about the Titanic and seeing all the sights.

I really should pull it out and give it another go.

Ever remember the cool easter egg in the Turkish Bath?

Also, from what I can gather, the only way to get it working in Windows 7 with with a virtual machine, unless you have an actual Windows XP computer somewhere like I do which requires a normal install.

Varrok 07-04-2012 03:14 AM

And DosBox

Havoc 07-04-2012 03:32 AM

Battlefield 3, gotta say it feels like good old times when I wasted my life playing Battlefield 2. Nostalgia killing!

If you mean the gameboxes, no I didn't. But I read the Wikipedia article right after submitting my last post.

JennyGenesis 07-04-2012 05:19 AM

Yeah I was referring to the game boxes.

But there was also a character in the game that is from another game by the same developer.

There were a lot of references to Dust.
