Why in AO sligs respond to abe and in AE they don t?Why did they removed it from the second game?

Wil 08-07-2009 09:47 AM

They didn't. Sligs still respond to Abe in exactly the same way. Can you give an example of where they don't? I don't think every Slig responds to Abe, in either AO or AE.

Is there a pure image of the face from the startup screen of AO?

I've wondered the same thing. It's such a unique image. I always thought, based on the facial shape, that it was perhaps a sculpture of a Glukkon back when they were still a peaceful, spiritual race.

Oh btw, nice job answering my previous question guys. 'preciate it! <_<

I thought I remembered seeing some high-res images of the posters. However, I can't think of where it might have been.

And yeah, that image is awesome. Strange how it's possibly the most mysterious image of Oddworld and it's the very first one you see.

Sekto Springs 08-07-2009 11:30 PM

Yeah, I really do think it may be one of the Glukkons' native ancestors. It has the proportions of a Glukkon minus the horrible complexion and the predisposition to look like an angry raisin. If I recall there was already a whole thread about this topic many moons ago. Anyone feel like digging it up?

Nate 08-07-2009 11:39 PM

I remember the thread. The resultant, forum-wide response was "NFI".

I think I asked Alf once. I didn't get any meaningful answer.

Xavier 08-08-2009 12:28 AM

To get that picture of the statue I'm afraid you'll have to dig into the code files, I remember searching for it but never actually found it.

As for the high res pictures of the poster I don't think there are any of the one you are referring to, only of this one:

I think I'm the one who made the thread, actually. :goof:

I've heard it's the face of a native Glukkon.

They were probably removed to make animating them in Real Time and pre-rendered sequences that much easier.

And were replaced by thousands of strands of hair on each Fuzzle.

Slaveless 08-08-2009 06:30 PM

The Fuzzles actually don't look like they have very much hair at all in the realtime... Just a shape and brown coloring.

AlexFili 08-09-2009 02:34 AM

To clarify the Slig's speaking to Abe... this happens in AO and AE. Some of the Slig AI was glitched in AO, either intentionally or by accident... so not all of them talk to you.

There are certain Sligs in AE that have heavily scripted sequences which cannot be interrupted. So, while all of the "basic, non-spawned Sligs" will talk to Abe, the ones with a pre-determined script, will not.

JayDee 08-09-2009 02:59 AM

what image is this "native-glukkon" as i have both AO and AE on the pc but have never seen it before?

used:) 08-09-2009 06:50 AM

The stone face on the start-up screen when you start AO (the box that has the "intsall," "run," etc. options).

JayDee 08-09-2009 07:41 AM

thanks but i never saw that as i got abes oddysee via utorrent could anyone post a screenshot of it?

You are not going to make yourself many friends over here admitting you have pirated the game...

JayDee 08-09-2009 07:59 AM

i only got it from utorrent cos i screwed up all my .lvl fileswith pauls level builder:fuzemb:and i forgot to make backups. i have seen it before but that was a couple of years ago.does anyone have a screenshot please?

used:) 08-09-2009 08:03 AM

Why not just buy another copy from the internet? It's gotta be less than 5 USD.

How is pirating a now out-of-print game an issue with anyone? That's a pretty elitist statement to make there, Xav.

People will argue that you need to purchase the game from a legitimate source so that those who worked hard on it get the money. However, considering how both companies involved in AO's production have gone under, the only person really getting that money is whatever individual is selling it to you.

J_dude, though it is considered a breach of etiquette to talk so openly about pirating, I'm not going to shun you for it. This is a friendly forum (well, its supposed to be) and I try my best to avoid being judgemental. I'm sure your reasons for pirating it were sound, and even if they weren't, BFD.

Xavier 08-09-2009 10:28 AM

Perhaps I'm being elitist but I believe it isn't a smart move to publicly admit you pirated the game on a fan forum dedicated to it. It's not as if there weren't easy and cheap ways to get it that guaranties your money are going to the developers:

http://store.steampowered.com/sub/949/

On the other hand I'm not going to be an hypocrite, the first copies I ever owned of the Abe games weren't legal either :p

BTW: The reason I haven't put up a picture of the autorun screen yet is simply because I'm not home at the moment.

JayDee 08-09-2009 10:47 AM

thank you and sorry i didnt mean to offend anyone

Ha ha, you just don't say that kind of thing on a fan forum. Thats like going to a CD signing with a copied disk.

But if you have a legitimate copy, you can use a copy, it's perfectly legal. You just can't sell it or give it away. So it's the Seeders that are breaking the law.

Does anyone have at least a low res screenshot of that installer image? I have never seen it before. Thanks.

Sekto Springs 08-09-2009 06:28 PM

I cant think of any source where your purchase would still put money in the original developers' pockets. Maybe Amazon, but even there people are going to be buying it from individual Amazon sellers as opposed to the paying the full price for their stock. What I'm saying is, given the amount of distribution of the game over the years, there's almost no chance of the developers seeing any of that money at this point. You can find Abe's Oddysee for $2 at your local exchange if you're lucky, but it's not as if one of those two dollars goes to Lorne.

Stranger's Wrath and Munch's Oddysee, on the other hand, are still worth something to the developers and the respective companies they worked for at the time. :p

Here is the mysterious statue. Sorry about the quality.

used:) 08-09-2009 06:58 PM

Hmm. The shape of it seems to be a motif in AO. I remember seeing some wooden altars in Paramonia that looked kind of like it. It also sort of looks like an upside-down variation of the OWI logo.

Other than, you know, Steam and GOG, where Lorne himself negotiated to have them made available for purchase.

Josh 08-17-2009 06:45 AM

Was Nod's Oddysee mentioned by a Oddworld Inhabitents member or was it a fan idea?

Bullet Magnet 08-17-2009 07:24 AM

It was a fan idea, but I forget as to whether it was Nate's or Max's.

Josh 08-17-2009 07:31 AM

Thanks!
Another one: When will Munch's Oddysee: The Directors Cut be on the Oddworld Library?
I must know the original story!

Wil 08-17-2009 08:49 AM

I’m primarily responsible for propagating the idea of Nod’s Oddysee. It was from an interview long, long ago, 1999 or earlier, that no one’s ever been able to find back. So while there's no direct evidence that it was an Oddworld Inhabitant naming it as a Quintology character, I did believe I had read it back at the start of 2000.

Nothing new is going onto the Oddworld Library for the foreseeable future.

Bullet Magnet 08-17-2009 09:52 AM

Boy, did you propagate it. I'm pretty sure it was mentioned in a gaming magazine.

Wil 08-17-2009 10:51 AM

It’s my biggest contribution to Oddworld.

That and the thing about Scrab rocks.

Mine was Forté. It didn't catch on.

Xavier 08-18-2009 12:43 AM

That was a deliberate attempt to destroy the Nod rumour?

Nate 08-18-2009 04:09 AM

No, I suspect I'd probably forgotten the Nod rumour when I wrote that. Anyone looking at the date of that post might make an assumption as to my intentions, but I'd forgotten that too. My goal really was just to see if I could make anyone believe me :D

Anyone else notice Abe is stood in front of Sekto Springs Dam there? :D

Xavier 08-18-2009 05:31 AM

Actually I did... but didn't say anything because I thought it looked cool. :p

Scrabaniac 08-23-2009 10:25 AM

will there be another game featuring molluck? if so, AWSOME!
plus, if scrabs fight when they see eachother, how do they mate, and if so, how do they exist!?

Josh 08-23-2009 10:27 AM

Scrabs in the vaults and in the temples are either half-mad from being locked away, all Alpha Scrabs or all ready to mate. They coperate when in heards.

Molluck will return (if OWI make a new game), he's not dead....

lycaon17 08-24-2009 02:59 PM

is there history on the Steef?
