I got bored of Animal Collective. I still listen to Feels every once in a while, but Merriweather Post Pavillion I'm tired of.

And I thought Modest Mouse was your favourite band.

That was before they made We Were Dead.

I'm also bored of Merriweather, but I'm not even a little bored with Sung Tongs, Feels, Strawberry Jam, or Water Curses.

ziggy 01-22-2011 08:52 AM

I like Joanna Newson's voice. It's uniquely pretty. And she's great at the mostly lost art of harp playing, at least in lots of contemporary music.

As for Animal Collective I never really liked Merriweather Post Pavillion. From my first listen I thought they lost their edge and started playing some kind of eletro dance music.

I can't help but feel I am repeating myself but whatever, this is my favorite song of theirs still.

Leaf House is pretty great.

I usually listen what OANST posts here because he seems to be some sort of music expert.

Listening to Indie music does not make you an expert on music, muthafucka. Listening to Indie music makes you one cool dude, dude.

This song sounds terrible but in a good way, the way the piece was constructed and played/sung it just sounds dreadfully morbid. But I believe that this is the best song I have ever heard from them.

T-nex 01-22-2011 09:50 AM

But Oanst doesn't listen to Indie music. He listens to GOOD music. Such is his words!

OANST 01-22-2011 10:02 AM

Exactly.

Really, there is no such genre as indie. It doesn't exist. It's something that people have made up to encompass dozens upon dozens of genres simply because these people think that anything they are not aware of is simply other, and so must be contained in a single title. A title that they can mock. Indie. It doesn't exist.

Look at this:

Now, look at this:

Are they similar? No. Are they similar genres? No. And yet, you are going to call them both indie. You do this because in your mind everything must have a label, and since you don't understand what you're seeing you put the same label on everything.

So, no. I don't listen to Indie music. I listen to good music.

T-nex 01-22-2011 10:06 AM

Water Curses is my fave AC song though... I love love love it :D

Anyway I think that Indie often does hold things in common. Such as the music being a bit more different than 'normal' music and sometimes more innovative. And a lot of indie bands like acoustic Guitar. Well that's my opinion from all the music I've heard that is classified as Indie... And some of it is bad and some of it is good. Like any other music. It can go one way or the other or somewhere in between.

Ridg3 01-22-2011 10:10 AM

No... I think I stated that you listen to indie music because you seem to exclusively listen to music created by independent artists, it had nothing to do with the genre of the music because my remark wouldn't have worked as well if I said, 'Listening to electronica/experimental rock/etc makes you one cool dude.'

Except that people also lump Radiohead in with Indie now. My point is that it's not a musical genre. But if it is a way of looking at making music, and not the music itself that makes you choose the term, then I guess that makes some sense. I do not typically listen to music made by people who are targeting a demographic. So, if that makes me a hipster, or an indie kid, then so be it. I'll still be enjoying better music than those who listen to the radio, so it doesn't bother me.

T-nex 01-22-2011 10:17 AM

I think good music can be found in both the Indie world and Label world.

OANST 01-22-2011 10:22 AM

Sure, it can. I've never said otherwise. It's you people that are saying that I say otherwise even though I never have.

T-nex 01-22-2011 10:27 AM

I never said that that you have said so :D I'm just stating.

A statement I heartily agree with.

This. I've always believed it isn't the musics/artists fault that it's bad but the fans that make them so, there has been some tripe on the radios but sometimes you would hear a little gem come on the air. Same goes for the music written/composed by independent artists, I've heard some unadulterated bollocks from them but I wouldn't dismiss it all as shit, I do like TNP.

EDIT: The Music thread should contain more of this.

ziggy 01-22-2011 10:37 AM

So this already been discussed before.........

OANST 01-22-2011 10:38 AM

So, The Aquabats and Reel Big Fish kicked off their tour in Dallas last weekend. It. Was. AWESOME.

Epic battle from the night:

Then they went into "Super Rad."

I can now die knowing that I've lived a full life.
