I've heard the opposite about Miyazaki's less advertised work. Part of the reason being it's more understandable to a western audience. I mean, come on, what the fuck is a Radish Spirit? (I still love it though)

I'll say that Kiki's Delivery Service didn't satisfy me as much, though. I've heard Totoro was rather gay, and I have yet to learn much about Nausica or Castle in the Sky.

Used i've just resentily watched Totoro and its more of a childeren film but it's cute. Has anyone seen Howl's Moving Castle, if they have'nt i suguest you do, the music is amazing but not as good as nausicaa. Porco Rosso and Tales of Earthsea are a must see. Porco Rosso is a is a man cursed to be a pig because he acts like one, it's a funny film (would explane more but im lazy). Tales of Earthsea, it's a hard film to explane but it's a must see

Leto 06-27-2008 01:15 AM

Might see Tales of Earthsea, Porco Rosso seemed a bit tralalalala for me. Is Steamboy at all affiliated with Ghibli? I saw it a while ago and can't remember, but if it wasn't, it was very Ghibli esque, and also exceptionally good

I have just seen Diary of the Dead. I love handycam movies. It and Cloverfield, I feel should have been much much longer, possibley just because it was an engrossing experience.

Steamboy isn't Ghibli, but it was made by the same people who did Akira. I still have yet to see how amazing it supposedly is.

I'd rather read the book before I see EarthSea.

Surprises me for someone so anti religion...

Aslan...

Havoc 06-28-2008 03:52 AM

Used got it right ;).

Neh I also like the movies because they are awesome to begin with. And I don't see so much religious references in those movies actually... Care to elaborate Hobo?

Nate 06-28-2008 05:35 AM

Just saw Prince Caspian. I'm... not sure. Admittedly that was my feeling about the first one also, but that was mainly because it was so similar to the book that it was eerie in parts. This one felt pretty good but a bit too long. To me the religious themes were far more obvious in the films than they were in the book. In the book they were implied, but in the film it was spat out at you.

Overall, it was tough for me to judge because I was surrounded by dipshits who delighted in making themselves heard. There was the guy two rows ahead on the right who munched on popcorn non-stop for the entire film, there were the giggling girls two rows back who responded to my whispered "SHUTUP" with "Stop yelling at us, you're being louder than we are!" and, worst of all, there was a woman with a four year old and a six year old who needed to explain every single thing that was happening on the screen, so we got a running commentary on what was going on.

When I'm Lord and Emperor Over All, it will be legal to take firearms in to cinemas for just these eventualities.

Mac Sirloin 06-28-2008 10:53 AM

Tonioght I'm going to See Wall*E, Hulk, and at least two other movies AS RECCOMENDED BY YOU GUYS.

Since I'm suddenly into Pixar again, I'm going to write a nice-ass review for Wall*E, spoiler free as I can.

Also, I saw The Girl Next Door, which is based on a true story.
Basically, these two girls' parents die in a car crash and they live with their horrible aunt who tortures them and allows her sons to rape them, I shit you not.

Also, I saw Otis, which was alright, I guess, it wasnt really sure what it was tyring to be though.

Leto 06-28-2008 02:08 PM

Man I want to see Wall E.

Watched Thirty Days of Night last night. Pretty fucking good it was. pretty fucking good

Havoc 06-28-2008 02:22 PM

Saw the trailer for Wall E yesterday before Narnia began, absolutely want to see that. Graphics were OMG AWSOME and Wall E is cute XD.

Nate 06-28-2008 04:58 PM

Yup, I've been obsessed with Wall-E since I saw the first teaser. Of course, it helped that I was watching Prince Caspian yesterday as a group of Robotics Engineers.

Narnia is heaven.

Nate 06-28-2008 08:18 PM

Not really. Narnia is a parallel world to Earth, but it's only when you go through the shed door in The Last Battle to the extension-Narnia that it's heaven.

Bullet Magnet 06-29-2008 12:04 PM

The penultimate Doctor Who of the season. Holy fucking shit.

OddjobAbe 06-29-2008 12:16 PM

DAVROS IS BACK! AFTER ALL THESE YEARS I'VE BEEN WAITING! AND FINALLY - THE DALEK THAT GOT THE DOCTOR!

Hobo 06-29-2008 12:32 PM

Holy shit, they're not going to get rid of Tennant are they?!

Leto 06-29-2008 11:45 PM

doctor who sucks baws

mudling 06-30-2008 12:55 AM

To go quite a bit back, as said before, Aslan represents Jesus, he quotes him directly quite a few times too.
I saw Dr. Who on TV yesterday, the one with Kylie Monogue, all I can say is WTF, I mean, it's entertaining, but sometimes I wish it took it'self seriously.
Recently saw Family guy: Blue Harvest, and man that thing is funny, it hardly misses anything, from the "a long time a go, but somehow in the future" to the whole porkens thing.
Can't wait untill the next one.
I saw the new Indina Jones movie recently (for me, time is flying due to all of my school work), and I liked it, only saw the raiders of the lost arc, and got enough of the jokes, and thought it stayed true to the series while adding some fresh new twists and changes, the only bit I hated was the ants bit.
Oh, and since I'm Australian I have to support Blanchet.

Nate 06-30-2008 02:44 AM

I don't know why people are so shocked that Aslan was Jesus. Who cares? Aslan was Jesus, Neo was Jesus, Abe was Jesus... heck, Donna Noble is Jesus.

EDIT: Thought I'd spoiler tag that, for the sake of Australians who've been good and not simply downloaded Doctor Who to watch it at the same time as the UK.

I'm having a flashback to our MSN convo...

Nate 06-30-2008 04:36 AM

That's nothing. It was almost entirely repeated, word-for-word, with Max.

I don't actually have all that much to say, you see.

Hobo 06-30-2008 09:00 AM

Did he bring E.T. into it too?

mudling 07-02-2008 04:03 AM

Saw the spoiler and have no idea who it is, yay for ignorance.
Just saw I am Legend.
Great movie, who cares if it didn't stick to the novel, it expanded from it, which is what is should do, we don't want the same thing over and over again, besides, the book already had two appropiations.
It's amazing how much you care about an animal you've never seen before and is of a breed that is infamous of being vicious and violent.
All in all, I did like it, I usually hate horror movies, and this movie isn't realy a horror movie at all, which is why I saw it, but I appriceated the whole modernised zombie/ vampire thing.
And after watching the prequel star wars, you start not to notice the special effects and take them for real, but maybe that's just my generation.
The religist themes may have been a little bit too unsubtle, but I think it ties in with the whole spirituality concept.
All and all, a pretty decent movie, and I'm aware that what I have said is pretty pointless because everyone has scene it by now and if they haven't, they don't care about it, but I'm on a forum, It doesn't have to have a point.

Alcar 07-02-2008 04:30 AM

Just saw Wall E it was actually pretty good. Nice parody of how Earth will be in the future, fat humans that cant do anything and a world full of garbage.
Now Im off to hell- a.k.a work...

The penultimate Doctor Who of the season. Holy fucking shit.

Indeed. There's no way that Tennant's going out of it, is there? I have a theory that the hand in a jar will play a role somehow. He'll get it out of the jar and use it to prevent his body changing or something like that) I'm intrigued for this Saturday. Especially with this year's return. Last year The Master, this year Davros. And the Dalek Khan story arc is finally picked up (Although still unclear how he re-entered the Time War when The Doctor couldn't)

Dun dun Awsome! Thank you thank you!

Also... do not waste your money on The Happening. Please... do not. Unless you want to laugh your ass off at random people killing them selfs in some very funny ways, don't go see it. It has absolutely no story at all.

Munch's Master 07-03-2008 04:03 AM

Oh yeah, forgot to mention what I've just seen. I saw Capricorn One the other night. Missed the first 20 or 30 minutes but it was a cracking film. Very old but still good.

I've also got Escape From New York taped. Heard good things about it so I'm looking forward to seeing that.
