I didnt know taht but i wonder what he would look like without the stiches

Xavier 11-17-2002 09:07 AM

the holes would probably cicatrise and you would see nothing anymore...

M.O.M 11-17-2002 03:48 PM

i forgot that they could heal

BigBro 11-21-2002 08:51 AM

Yes, he would look, pretty much what he looks like now.....except with no stiches........................in his lips..........:fuzblink::fuzconf:

M.O.M 11-21-2002 09:16 AM

I think he would look weird though

Xavier 11-21-2002 02:19 PM

like other mudokons in fact

BigBro 11-21-2002 09:38 PM

And other Mudokons look weird to MOM....*shakes head*

M.O.M 11-22-2002 06:17 AM

no they dont!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just cant imagine abe without stitches

BigBro 11-23-2002 09:52 PM

Heh, Im just messin' witcha. ;)

M.O.M 11-25-2002 01:37 PM

I rewatched the FMVs from MO yesterday. At the end of the one where Humphrey is operating on Munch, an Intern comes in humming to himself so they still have some forms of musical expression.

M.O.M 11-26-2002 08:30 AM

They can also make muffled screams and nosies

BigBro 11-28-2002 05:27 AM

Maybe the frequency of their whistling upset something in the Vykkers heads, but they can still hum because it doesnt do anything to them (VYkkers).

Xavier 11-28-2002 02:17 PM

guys it's simply the sound who is annoying, not something complex like the frequency...

M.O.M 11-28-2002 04:07 PM

I dont think whistleing is annoying but i see what you mean

Hey, Im theorising, gimme a break. :p

Canned Gabbiar 01-06-2003 05:16 AM

THIS THREAD HAS BEEN REVIVED!

Well, I was just wondering about the origins of the Intern, and so I just searched the forums for any threads on Interns... And I came across this. Well, instead of creating a new thread, I have decided simply to revive this thread... I noticed that the last reply was made in November.

I know that the Interns love rock and the latest and most fashionable swimwear, and I heard somewhere that their lips were stitched because they had the habit of whistling while they worked. These tunes caused other species to fall into a "trance" like state. So the Vykkers decided to stitch their lips up.

Now to my actual question:
Where did the Interns come from and how do they reproduce?

If they are anything like the Vykkers, i.e they are genetically modified workers created by the Vykkers or if the come from the same evolutionary branch, then they would be a race of hermaphrodites in which each individual is capable of producing offspring on it's own.

TheBigRaisin 01-06-2003 12:13 PM

The Vykkers must create the interns.
Would you choose a workforce that could eventually diminish to nothing (interns arent immortal right?)
We've not seen anything of them as a natural race (doesnt mean they arent, just that we havent seen them) so that gives credibility to the fact that they are 'cloned' or created somehow.

One post said that their hands looked like paramite mouths.....
Are there any other features that are similar to other races?
perhaps if they have, they are more like frankensteins monster.....made up of the parts of others, from failed experiments!
after all, Vykkers like to cut up and experiment right?

The Shrykull 01-09-2003 02:02 PM

I'd just like to rap up afew things which i've collected from throughout this thread (I don't want to come off as a smart ass, i'm just saying what i've read)for people who are asking repeated questions.
1) Interns aren't genetically made by the Vykers, both races grew up in trees and evolved.
2)There mouths had been stitched up because they whistled annoyingly, nothing more.
3)They are either cloned or simply reproduce on their own.
4) They weren't originaly called 'Interns' that was the name the Vykers gave them, it's also their job.

Now here's my question: Did the interns always have hoofs or did they used to have feet. I heard the vykers sawed them off.

P.S: If I came off as rude I apologize:)

Canned Gabbiar 01-09-2003 11:41 PM

Well Shrykull, I've also read the whole thread before I asked any questions....

We do not know if the tree part is real... It was a theory, based on the fact that sligs develop from slugs in the swamps etc. Nobody stated where the info came from. So it may not be completely accurate.

Al the Vykker 01-10-2003 01:46 AM

Well I think the Vykkers coming from trees has been proven.(Living in the trees or in the canopies of forests.) Interns have not been verified yet that I am aware of, so you are right on that part. I think someone here can back the Vykker statement though. It has to do with something or part of them that were removed from their feet, which is the result of why they are all stiched up. Possibly removing what made them able to live up in the trees. Would also explain why they dont seem to travel on ground level. Also that they seem to like being up in the air traveling always above ground. Makes and interesting theory to back up the statement. Just I need someone else maybe Khanz or max to second that notion. Not the theory just the Vykkers thing with living in tree tops.

Canned Gabbiar 01-10-2003 05:10 AM

Another Idea

Hey I just had a really wild hunch... Vykkers are similar to horses. They have hoofed feet and run pretty fast (well, faster than abe can run anyway... I tested that in Labor Egg Storage). So maybe they just inhabited wide open and unobstructed places. And perhaps before they became advanced and became scientists, they may have been hunters. I mean, look at those claws on their four hands. And since we have drawn some sort of a connection between Vykkers and Interns, just maybe, Interns lived similar lifestyles. Just a wild hunch.

The Shrykull 01-10-2003 01:07 PM

First I apologize to Canned Gabbiar:fuzsmile:

Second I like the theory of Vykers being hunters but I always thought they would have been like giant centipedes. As evolution happened their backs shifted and four legs stayed on the floor and the others moved and becamw hands (of sorts). But I think either theory is possible.:)

Oddsville 01-10-2003 06:45 PM

Aye so many strange questions in this topic and yet such a long time seince I've read it. So just a few minutes ago I breifed over it ( I know I should have read the whole thing : P), and I am going to answer whatever I can. Ok First off.....

(btw, the T stands for theorie...)

T) Interns whistling puts other inhabitants in a trans like state.....
A) No, it dose no such thing. Interns being the music lovers that they are would always hum to the tune of thier favorite rock music. And the Vykkers, being the surgens and such that they are, would find this extreemly annoying and so decided that they should stich up thier mouths.

Q) What happened to Interns feet?
A) Interns do infact have feet.....hoves to be exact, its just that they look alot like thier legs and are very hard to spot, now you might ask what the stiches are for then? Well Im not quite sure but prehaps they had larger hooves and the hooves were cut down for less noise on the metallic surface.

T) The Vykkers created the Interns.....
A) Heck no! The only being that the Vykkers created/altered was the Fleech. Interns were just tree dwelling creatures that over time the Vykkers kinda....tamed.

BigBro 01-10-2003 10:35 PM

I just came up with the thought that seeming that Interns have those large, spindly hands, and that may be what they used to swing through the trees, they may have had appendages on their legs where the stitches are that also helped them swing through trees with all four limbs. They may have been unsuitable for walking on flat surfaces, so they developed hooves. When the Vykkers discovered them, they simpy removed them because they didnt want them to be very mobile.

Canned Gabbiar 01-11-2003 02:43 AM

Oddsville, the part about the Interns originally living in the trees still remains to be proven.. it's just a theory, to say the most (even if it is the best theory we've got right now).

Well, if the Interns used to live with the Vykkers as equals, and IF they lived in the trees, then a queen would have been unpractical (I'm saying this while thinking back to the slig and gluk queens... they're huge!) so then they probably bred the same way that Vykkers do.... Asexual reproduction. If you read the OWI thing on Vykkers, it says that each vykker is a hermaphrodite and is able to produce young on it's own. So perhaps that's the answer if they lived with the Vykkers.

Al the Vykker 01-11-2003 03:52 AM

Interesting info there about the Vykkers. Could you pull up the exact link or information. Otherwise is it just under Vykker on the official site. Thanks for the info. Looks like another theory could be put in place here. They probably (theVykkers) did expirementation with removing parts of their own feet, when they no longer were in the trees. Possibly when the new vykker baby is born the parts of the feet are initially right from the start cut off. Though I also like the earlier theory that goes along with mine but adds that the four arms could be used for climbing better. It really supports the whole general tree living with them.

Thanks again for the additional info CGabbiar.

Canned Gabbiar 01-11-2003 05:09 AM

The information is in the Vykkers section under Biography. Here is what the first paragraph says:

:

With crinkled skin, huge heads, beady eyes, four arms, and three legs, a Vykkers is beyond ugly. Hermaphroditic self-impregnating masters of weird science, each member of the Vykkers race is able to mate with itself to create offspring.
And it seems that Vykkers have these harnesses that help them grasp things. I doubt that Vykkers lived in trees... look at those hands. Completely unsuitable. The Interns may have lived in trees though that means they probably didn't live with the Vykkers.

:

Spindly little arms would slow a lesser species down, but the Vykkers have weird science to give them a hand. Their special manipulator harnesses let them wield a wicked assortment of delightful surgical tools.

paramiteabe 01-13-2003 11:27 AM

Since the Intern's mouths were stitched up so fine and precise, because their whistleing was very annoying to the Vykkers, I like to think maybe the Intern's whistle could be deadly in it's own strange way. Like if one Intern whistles, then it won't harm anyone but if many whistle at the same time, "like a hundred Interns," then the whistling sound would become deadly. So the Vykkers stitched their mouths so tightly shut, that they can't even talk, Just mumble. Perhaps at one time the Vykkers were being harmed do to the Intern's whistleing noise and they had to take drastic measures to fix the problem. So they invented to Stitch 2000.

Thats my theory.:)

It's been supposebly found that a lions roar has a very deadly meaning and purpose. Apparently it emitts a very high pitched sound that can stun animals (i don't know about humana, maybe) for a second or so. Which gives lions the second or so that it needs to pounce on a victim. Interns might have something like that, which would back up your story :)

Alcar...

Canned Gabbiar 01-14-2003 01:34 AM

Heh, well, I don't think that a lion's roar is high pitched or stuns. It would only frighten prey and make them run away. I've watched heaps of documentaries and lions are always silent when they hunt.

TheBigRaisin 01-16-2003 05:41 PM

Just out of interest, Alf answered this on his tea and rehab section

:

Alf: Yes, interns really do have their mouths sewn shut. This is to prevent them from whistling annoying techno and trance tunes while working. Unfortunately, they can still email and surf the net. They do also have hooves, this is hard to notice because they seem to be the same size as their leg bones, unlike a horse or a pig, where the hoof is semi-cone-shaped. Nothings been cut off yet, but I'm not sayin' it couldn't happen! The interns weren't created, but like so many of the poor critters that cross the threshold of Vykker's Labs, they've undergone slight "mODDifications".
cheers

Canned Gabbiar 01-17-2003 12:15 AM

Thanks Raisin.

And also, I think that we are moving off the topic. The question really is HOW DO INTERNS REPRODUCE AND WHERE DID THEY COME FROM.

If Interns indeed came from trees, then they probably did not live with the Vykkers, since a Vykker's arms are completely unsuitable for climbing. This is based on how the Vykkers look AT THIS POINT IN TIME. But it all depends on how long ago that was. Evolution could have changed the Vykkers once they moved to the ground.

If they lived in trees, the most practical thing to do would be self fertilisation, like the Vykkers (mate with itself). Though this would likely cause a problem as the gene pool has barely any variations, leaving them more vulnerable to a genetic disease. Remember, I'm basing it on PRACTICALITY and ADAPTABILITY, since that is what goes on here on Earth.

Since it is oddworld we're talking about, I won't jump to the conclusion that things are the way they are to make things more practical and adaptable, but since I'm relating Oddworld to Earth. So in that case, the most practical and reasonable theory would be the answer. We can rely on images to a certain extent, but the species may have changed over thousands, maybe millions of years.

The Shrykull 01-18-2003 12:26 PM

Didn't we clear this up a while back? Interns come from trees.
I just thought, I wonder if the Vykers got some Interns to wander into their labs by playing rock music to hypnotise them...just a thought...
