I wish you would stop putting us all in one category. You showed me that meat eating is selfish, that is why I didn't respond to the last post you made aimed at me. I can not justify my diet, as there is no way to justify a carnivorous diet, so that make this topic destined to die anyway.

Statikk HDM 07-15-2002 05:33 PM

**** it all. Somwe cow will die today to feed me tomorrow and I won't even blink an eye. The ciRRRcle of LIIIIFE!

I have a question, is their only one vegetarian type? Like is their a group of vegetarians who eat fruits, vegetables, and dairy products? Do you eat dairy products Sydney? are you the hard core vegetarian who doesn't eat meat or dairy products or poultry?

Sl'askia 07-26-2002 09:52 PM

Those that don't eat any animal products are just refered to as 'vegans' if I remember right....

Sydney 07-26-2002 10:13 PM

There are all different kind of vegetarians, although some don't really deserve the title "vegetarian". I'm a vege who eats everything but meat. Therefore, chicken, fish, cow, pig, etc are all forbidden in my diet.

I know some people who say they're a vegetarian "sometimes"...

morphius 07-27-2002 02:03 AM

is eating meat really wrong though, again it comes down to what u value.... dont we get some benefits from being on the top of the food chain, do u believe in social darwinism to a different extent, that we have the right because we are able to...(ill explain myself if neccassary) what if we evolved quicker and the other animals are just left and are the weak, does this justify us eating them? what if they are here for our own benefits to provide for us this could be an arguable point. but surely if everyone ate smaller amounts of meat just a small portion a day things would be better and there would be very little problems... meat would be in a less of a demand and there would be no need for mass torturing of animals such as pigs who are born into a nightmare then so to say chopped down. then u could feed on the animals like they feed on each other, to survive, eat because u have to and not take advantage into mass producing this meat. I dont agree with the mass production of meat in america today it is quite terrible..........i think hunting is better because atleast the animal lived a short but free life and dies quick instead of its whole life being a painful one..to many people eat to much meat this is one of the biggest problems i myself prefer vegetables.............. but the older generation of people do tend to eat more meat because thats all they had i know for a fact that some of the older population thats all they eat is meat because thats what they were told to eat, so some of this is tradition and really not a careless act.....some of the points might be wrong but it depends on what u think is right and how u view things..........do u think the animals are dying for a reason or just outa of a selfishness of man? do u think this large amount of eating of animals is suppose to happen? meat is sometimes cheaper to get too so some people eat meat because thats what they can afford, not everyone can pay top dollar to buy some of these expensive fruits and vegetables......... there are many arguments for it but i think just limiting how much meat u eat would solve alot but u cant stop someone who wants to be careless and eat many tons of meat and people need to support more animal rights if they think this is wrong..... much of this is sadly hard to do now do to the influence of money.............i am all for people who only eat vegetables and fruit, etc. they are atleast respecting the animals and the earth in a positive way........... note: i am sorry for any spelling errors and will be glad to go into more depth of what i mean....................

Well do you consume food produced by animals? Like eggs, milk ect ect?.

Sydney 07-27-2002 04:19 AM

Free-range eggs and milk, yes.

Gluk Schmuck 07-27-2002 10:38 AM

Some people don't understand that fish is meat. Like if you say you're vegetarian and then they ask you 'do you eat fish?'. Or when people are talking about food they class fish seperately to meat.

How stupid can you get? Is it so hard to understand that fish are animals? According to some quiz 50-something percent of men don't think clams are living things. Stupid, or what...

Then why do you eat plants!? You are killing life as much as we meat eators! A rabbit, or a mushroom, both are alive.

And if you eat meat, and plants, you will be healthier then if you only eat one of them. There is nothing whrong with eating meat just becuas you dont belive in it. And even if it is cuas where selfish, then that is the human way. We are just animals like other critters. Cows wont go extinct just becuas w eat them, if that is what you worrie about.

This has been covered a few times already. Plants and fungi don't have nervous systems, therefore don't have a consciousness, can't feel pain, etc.

That isn't true.

You're justifying being selfish by calling it "the human way"? Fair enough... And if you read back over the topic you'll see that the extinction of the cow was never a concern.

No, Sid thinks all meat eaters are just a bunch of selfish pricks, but it took 3 pages for him to get his point across.

Then why did you feel the need to come in and insult my argument, when it's clear that many people still haven't got the point of my argument?

And spare me the condescension, I can crush you like a paper cup, ie, ban you.

How I’m I insulting your argument? is what I’m saying not true, you don't think meat eaters are selfish? And Ban me? On what grounds?

*sigh* You're insulting my argument by suggesting that I can't communicate my point effectively, saying that it took me three pages to get my point across. Clearly, my point was made in my first post, and I among other posters, have been responding to the protests from our meat-eating members over the following three pages. And I don't appreciate the slanderous comment about me thinking all meat-eaters are "selfish pricks". I like most of the people who post on this board whether they eat meat or not.

I'd ban you on the grounds of being condescending to an Administrator.

Ok then, but you did call meat eaters "Selfish" though, and since when did being condescending to an Admin become a rule?

PinkHaired Mudokon CWR 07-28-2002 12:58 AM

Okay sydney, are you a lacto?

I'm glad you finally understand the situation.

Being condescending to an Administrator isn't so much a rule as it is common sense not to do. If I really wanted you out, do you think I'd stick to the rules list as gospel? I would just ban you, and that would be it. So I've given you a warning, next time I'll ban you.

Pinkhaired, if an ovo-lacto vegetarian is someone who eats no meat but does eat eggs and drinks milk, then that's what I am.

Oddness 07-28-2002 02:22 AM

I did try being a vegetarian for a while, but I found just loved meat too much. I don't think eating meat is wrong, but I do think the way we breed and slaughter animals without them having a chance to defend themselves is. :( But then, I believe that plants have just as much of a right to live as animals do, and we have to eat something. It's selfish to eat a living thing, but we're all selfish in some way, unfortunately.

If you met a crocodile in a river, would it think twice about the pain your death would cause? I don't think so. Its first instinct would be "that's food".

I'm sorry if I'm repeating what others have said, I haven't read over the entire topic.

salty pretzils 07-28-2002 09:53 AM

Nowadays most people can survive without eating meat so it isn't a nessecity for them but they don't want to regardless of the pain, suffering and all the other factors which point to it being a bad idea. I suppose quite a few people don't care or do care but just don't have the willpower to to stop.
I can say I have been brought up with the idea of eating meat and had never seen any probblems with it till recently. Also my parents think if I became vegetarian it would have a bad effect on my growth because of lack of nutrients present in meat. Whether this is true or not I don't know.:fuzconf:

This is my point of view.

Idiot, you say that like being ban means members can never return here. If members choose to be condescending to an Admin, that is up to them not up to you Sydney. If you want to make your own little rules to get people banned then I will make my own rules by breaking yours, I will Spam Spam Spam Spam, as much as I want I will f*cking curse if I want, if I want to say your an asshole Sydney I will say you are an asshole Sydney, you can ban me again if you want but you know as well as I do I can return anytime I like so in the end I will be making the final decision to come back or not, not you.

Good day to you.

Sydney 07-29-2002 12:32 AM

Robin, to think I was the one who forgave you when when you said that America deserved September 11, while everyone else hated you.

You really hate being told what to believe, and you're threatened by my vegetarian topic. I guess you're interpreting my threat to ban Surfacing as gross intolerance for the beliefs of others, if so - grow up.

Robin, I am the founder of Oddworld Forums. It's very pompous of you to suggest that member conduct is solely up to the member, as lots of money, time and effort have been put into these forums and it is by grace that people are able to enjoy this place. I find your post to be the height of rudeness.

I'll give you an our to respond before you're banned.

PinkHaired Mudokon CWR 07-29-2002 12:34 AM

Yeah, as I thought about it, being a lacto-ovo or a lacto or a ovo vegetarian would not be so bad because I love my dairy, fruits and vegetables. I like meat too, but I will try to take it out of my diet because I have read some disgusting stuff on meat. Like sausage are grinded pig intestines. How do we know they didn't clean inside of them? I think I will have a struggle with a being a vegan. When it comes to food, I'm easily temped.:D:D. Especially by chocolate!!

Edit: I think it will take me a long time in order to become a vegan.

Jacob 07-29-2002 12:35 AM

Yes, i knew it. People telling me to leave him alone that time, mentioning that he has changed. God, it was so obvious he hadn't. Also, he believe that he can change his IP addy, yeh, like to see you try. Anyway, this is just me riling things up again...
Toodles

Also, why did you have to post something pathetic like that. Make it really controversial...get everyone involved. Group thing etc.

That's great that you're thinking of experimenting with a new diet. You might find that it's not for you, but it's always good to try new things even if only for a little while.

Jacob, it seems you're a good judge of character after all. ;) By the way, it is possible that Robin can change his IP address and avoid a ban, but the question is: who will tire first? I can't imagine the kind of person who would spend their free time avoiding a ban just to prove that Sydney is not all powerful.

Jacob 07-29-2002 01:02 AM

Yeh, but couldn't you just delete his member thingy?

Oh and...you go Robin, you show him how cool you are with your IP changing prowess. Thats right, you whoop our ass' by laughing at us as your IP changes. Yes...we'll sure be sorry. Ooohh yes, you have us there you little tinka. You are such a cool guy...im going to name my first two kids "Mr Donut" and "Robin" cos they're are such cool names. Yeh, you are soooo cool...Wow...can i have your autograph.

Robin, would you care to explain why you and Surfacing have both posted from the same computer at an institution of the Swinburne University of Technology?

I'm not accusing you of anything, but it certainly would explain why you defended Surfacing with such hostility.

Intern_485 07-29-2002 03:14 AM

Meat-Eater

I eat meat and I don't like being called selfish for it but I've been called worse than that. People have been eating meat since the dawn of time and I don't enjoy seeing animals killed but my religous beliefs on this subject are that animals were put on Earth for human use and consumption. However, it is also my belief that we are supposed to look out for animals as a whole so if a species was in danger of extinction we should protect the species. There are a plethora of cows in the world. Too many, actually. I learned in an Environmental Science course (This sounds foolish and dumb but it's true) that because of cows' tendency to flatulate a lot, the methane from it actually contributes to global warming somehow. I'm not joking. I can justify my meat-eating diet too. The reason I eat meat is this: I want to.

I think you better check my I.P address again Sid, i don't go to uni i'm still in high school, my I.P address is 139.134.57.153.

What!? can you tell me how you did your search? PM the instructions so I can see for myself.

Sydney 07-29-2002 04:39 AM

The administrator's control panel allows you to enter an IP address and you see all users who've used that IP address. Likewise, you can enter a username and see all IP addresses ever used by that member.

If you are genuinely confused, I'd suggest changing your password.
