Also, after careful consideration, I think I'd be okay with JayDee as a global mod, too. As long as the person is on here often and has a level head, whether or not they post a lot is irrelevant. I think he's one of the only people on this site that has no personal prejudices, and would actually put the effort in to moderate. Also also, he volunteered.

I'm unsure whether or not this thread will actually result in anyone eventually becoming a moderator, and that's fine. But at least this thread has raised some kind of discussion about the desperate need for more moderation on this site, or at least something to make this place better than it has been. As we've seen an influx of new members coming in from the ARG and the soon to be released Soulstorm, we've also being seeing a rise in multis and spam, trying to take advantage of this situation we find ourselves in, which isn't so much " live or die " as it is " live or fester as we have for the past 10 years. "

However some of us have been excited to see new members coming the forums, and some of us have been making multiple efforts to try and revitalise this place; myself, Fennec, and many others in this thread and across the forums included.

Some of these multi's posts were up for hours before anything got done and that's not the fault of the admin or moderation team, as everyone here (besides the bots) are real people with actual lives. But if we had atleast one extra moderator - whoever that may be - then that's already a 50% increase from the two active moderators we already seem to have.

Now I understand you guys voting for Vlam. or I can at least understand those of you who were "voting" for Vlam as an anti-OWF-estasblishment joke, and that's okay. It gave me a couple laughs. But lets not forget that a lot of the people making these jokes have more infractions than Abe has fingers (Yes, in both the US and Japan releases). A lot of people understood this as a joke but unfortunately people who haven't been here as long, or haven't been actively following the events of the forum for the past few years, don't exactly have the best judge of character.

You're damn right he won't be selected. Vlam knows how to navigate this site as well as anyone who knows that you have to click "advanced search" to actually get the search bar to do anything. And if you're thinking that someone who is openly antagonistic to members of this forum, new or old, walks a "neutral line" or would make a good moderator then that's your prerogative, but don't try to make it anyone else's. This is a member who has openly complained about the influx of new members multiple times and is vehemently against any kind of improvement to these forums whatsoever.

I volunteered for this position because I'm genuinley passionate about seeing this place improve. I volunteered to be the moderator of Fan Corner, and then upon Nate saying that a more globalised moderator would be needed I volunteered for that too. Because like I said previously, I don't care about a title or where I'm put or for why, what I do care about is seeing that this place improves. I've grown up on these forums and I've seen the effect that the toxicity and - to put it nicely - where the "devil may care" attitude has gotten this place.

I hadn't spoken at length in this thread because I figured I'd just let the votes speak for themselves, and not try to sway people's judgements beyond those that they already held. My mistake. Now some of you can pretend like there isn't any issue on the forums, some of you can try to fix the issues on the forums, and some of you may just contribute to these problems as well. But I'd rather not hold my tongue and pretend like there isn't anything wrong, when there quite clearly is.

Rearing my head in this thread to say I completely agree with JayDee on all the points he made there and gave him my vote. And I barely care about all the politics that goes on on this forum.

I vote for kjjcarpenter: he is knowledgeable about Oddworld, he isn't cliquey (unlike J_Dude320), etc.

I cast my vote. Take offence at Vlam, if you please—even though I think most opinions about him are entirely biased and skewered to make him seem the bad guy without recognising all of the abuse he received upon joining the forum, most of it inspired by his language barrier—but there's no need to attack my vote.

He thinks most of them are here for the ARG and couldn't care less about OWF. He is right. Most of them have gone silent and will return only once the ARG is operational again.

I've spoken to Vlam several times about the state of the forums and what can be done to improve it. Believe it or not, but Vlam was the catalyst for my OWF Rebirth thread; the very thread that inevitably voiced the need for another moderator.

However, I don't think another moderator is going to solve the flagrant issues of this forum. They might be able to quell a couple of multiple accounts and stop the porn, but I don't think they're going to encourage a revolution. What we need is a sense of community reinforced with continuity, hence the introduction of "Odd Piece of the Week", and the re-conceptualisation of interactivity between the members, via Dungeons & Dragons and hopefully more varied games to come. The solution to a functioning, fun, fascinating forum is based on content and relevance. If we can encourage such an attitude and forge a bond between as many of our members as possible—instead of encouraging our own version of the Schism—then we will have the OWF we all desire.

You were literally the first one to reply to this thread and you said you voted for Manco already. So this is a change of vote, not just a vote.

Since we're all apparently allowed to change our votes, fuck it. I'm voting Jaydee now. Sorry Manco, but you've only got like four at the most and Jaydee's last post was really convincing of his character. He seems more intelligent and more mature than most right now. Count me one less vote for a third party.

Honestly it's alarming why so many people are getting so butthurt over this - it's just a forum mod. We need another mod, don't deny it. It won't make the forums more active, but it will make it a bit cleaner, as it will be nice to have at least one other person available to see the spam reports and ban the trolls a little quicker.

As for cliques, it's clear to me now that Vlam and Carpenter are working together against Jaydee for some reason, and I take offense to this kind of stupidness. I don't care what kind of invisible war you guys are having, this is petty and it needs to stop.

Vhazen, breh, I never changed my vote. My second post saying I can also accept JayDee as a global mod rather than just a FC mod doesn't override my first post.

I'm unsure what evidence you're basing this off of considering Vlam never had a welcome thread. A simple search on anyone's profile can reveal that. He joined in 2003 and didn't consisently post until NnT's announcement circa 2015, 9 posts from 2003 to 2014, none of which were ever in a welcome thread. There's some forum navigational skills.

You'd rather refuse newer people's rights to be here - a site which OWI themselves linked their audience to - in favour of inclusive change that only benefits the forum members who are already here. The only one of your original suggestions from your "An Opportunity for OWF's Rebirth" to gain any footing was Dungeons & Dragons, which as of yet has exactly zero usage from any of the newer members besides MrsKJJ. So I don't think it's fair you ride that wave.

Any company in the world knows that you're doomed to failure by not appealing to any potential newer adopters of your product. Apple don't care whether you were there from iPhone 1 or iPhone 6; you're either part of the constant, or part of the increase. You don't become popular by appealing to the same circle of people, no matter how many fun games you play.

I don't understand how you can claim a succesful forum is based on relevance when the majority of the newer members are here for the ARG (The most relevance this forum has had from Oddworld Inhabitants since our tiny mention in New N' Tasty's end credits). There's no use forging bonds between members that have already consistently been on the forums together for years, whilst sumiltaneously neglecting and shunning all the newer people who arrive here, ARG or not.

I feel like there's an issue with consistency here, whilst Vlam has consistently tried to sway the forums away from any kind of progress, others have been consistently trying to improve it. You are not the first person to try to change OWF for the better, so I don't feel as though you should consider yourself yo have all the credit for your few successful suggestions. This almost exact same situation happened in 2015 when STM proposed the idea, and you know what I did? I made the flag. And again I was consistently trying to improve the environment of the forums.

I'm not upset that you voted for Vlam. You have the right to vote for whoever you like. But I am able to complain when you vote for the literal antithesis of progress on the forums.

That basically sums it up. At the point it is now though, nothing will come of it. We either restart, or we just scrap it entirely and forget. People thought it was a joke, whether or not this is because change scares them, but it was treated as a joke and has grown as such.

I apologise for this, I did not see it. I will add though that we have had many-a-multi make a similar thread too, *cough* MA *cough*, so it doesn't necessarily single you out as an individual. I made one too at the beginning of this year, and was believed to just be a sock account for kjjcarpenter.

I don't hide though, like some of our members. If you want an opinionated presence on the internet, then you shouldn't hide behind a username. You should monitor your digital footprint to be proud of it, and present yourself as yourself. I remember the shit storm that occurred when YouTube and Google linked and changed all usernames to real names. Mass panic was everywhere and more than 95% of these people changed it back, faking their names on Google. As far as I'm concerned if you have a strong opinion about something, then you shouldn't be afraid to back up your claim with yourself. If you wouldn't say it in person, then it shouldn't be posted. Which leads me to the next part.

I wouldn't know who started the rumour, but as far as I can tell it's started for all new members who partake in more than just the ARG. Showing your face helps. Simply remain a constant in the forums, so they can see you're here for more than the ARG, and you will be welcomed. Remember what I said about the monkeys, I wasn't lying. If I could, I would advise you to stay out of the politics of OWF, but it is a bit too late for that. The members of these forums, while all lovely in their own ways, can be very opinionated, and unfortunately if your opinion opposes theirs, you're bound to get into an argument.

The thread has a right to be taken seriously. It's an important job on offer that would need to be taken as such, but what has happened is exactly what I said before. People thought it was a joke, and now it has created war. The job does have to be filled, but something that does have to made aware, is that it should be filled by someone who remains objective. We need an administrative member who does not get riled up and attack whenever something happens that they don't approve of, no matter what it is. Xavier and Nate do fantastic jobs, now everyone else has the harder job of finding someone like them. Fennec is a good option, and I admire her passiveness, but she's too busy for the role. I hope she can focus on her future career rather than be Super Nanny here.
