Where else? On Reddit, there are like a couple hundred subscribers, and most of them lurkers.

Problem is, Oddworld doesn't really have a lot of fans, and the ones that can actually make a game are here. And by that I mean Paul.

Manco 03-23-2015 07:27 AM

I’m sure there’s more people here than just Paul who could contribute.

Do not discredit J_dude.

I could probably in the future. I have experience in Maya and unity. Looking to become an environmental artist in the future.

Manco 03-23-2015 01:16 PM

I’ll admit that this has gotten me interested enough that I’m poking around at beginner tutorials for Unity. No clue what I’m doing but it’s interesting.

Shade667 03-23-2015 01:51 PM

I like unity. It reminds of back in the day when Id mess around in the Warcraft 3 levele editor.

I need a PC. Got 2 years of game design thats going to waste cuz I cant practice.

I've never played around with Unity but I fear I'll hate it because I've been spoilt by Unreal 4.

Shade667 03-23-2015 02:20 PM

Unity, from what Ive seen of Unreal, is certainly friendlier. It also has direct support for MAYA, so u cna just import models. I dont know much about Unreal personally, other than Ive had UDK3 downloaded for 6 years and unable to run it.

Am I allowed to discredit J_dude?

If a tree falls in a forest, but there's no one around, does it still rank first by .62 seconds?

Shade667 03-23-2015 04:05 PM

Depends on 2nd places time. Could be more or less.

J_Dude don't get him started. ;)

Don't get me wrong, a fan game would be cool, I simply remain sceptical, but I know J_Dude has been working hard on his so if anyone is going to finish one I reckon it'll be him.

Shade667 03-24-2015 02:02 PM

Even if its not finished, fan projects are cool.Theyre great for learning as well.

Manco 03-24-2015 02:21 PM

Hell, the mere thought of this as a fan project has already gotten me learning some basic Unity scripting. Right now I have a little cube that shoots bullets on my screen.

Shade667 03-24-2015 02:49 PM

Nice...

I was terrible at scripting...

Jordan 03-24-2015 02:54 PM

Wait, what kind of fan project was proposed? I might have missed that.

I highly recommend checking out this set of tutorials – the guy who makes them is absolutely excellent at putting the basic concepts in easy-to-understand terms, and he tries to make it easy to follow along while also encouraging you to try your own stuff instead of just blindly copying everything he does.

Well it was more “thrown around” than actually proposed, but the basic gist was:
:

literally the same original games but with better versions of the original art assets, plus opportunity to make it easy for new custom levels.

Shade667 03-24-2015 03:13 PM

Yeah, what they taught us in Unity was mostly importing models and animation. It was games art so scripts and code took a back seat.

Fischkopf 03-30-2015 11:19 AM

I'd love a "Abe's Oddysee Classic: HD". It shouldn't be as much work as rebuilding the whole game, right? Too bad the source code was lost though.

Varrok 03-30-2015 11:22 AM

Sometimes bad things just happen.

Munch's Oddysee

Well, I liked it when I was younger. I had this game new, when I just received my new Xbox and I remember liking the graphics at the time, and the cutscenes of course. Now I think it's just mediocre as a game... That whole idea of having to collect "spooce shrubs" was really bad, and controls were way too touchy.

It's really not the highlight of the Oddworld series for sure.

Varrok 03-30-2015 12:47 PM

That's pretty much the opinion of the vast majority. No need to discuss it, but it still makes a good joke

Shade667 03-30-2015 02:43 PM

Oh, does everyone hate Munch?

I didnt play it til the HD remake, and I thought it was okay. I quit cuz the camera was inverted and I couldnt figure out how to change it though.

Manco 03-30-2015 02:44 PM

it was okay.

This is basically the consensus except for a few people with more vitriolic views. It was alright for its time, but not the best, and it hasn’t aged as well as the rest of the series.

Nate 03-30-2015 06:17 PM

This is not a Munch thread. Everyone should have listened to Varrok when he said 'No need to discuss it'.
