What Varrok said. It looks great, but Rupture Farms looks way too futuristic, as opposed to the almost steampunky/retro/modern mix it used to have. It was more gritty and fit the tone of the game better. This one looks like something out of Futurama. Speaking of missing the tone, I don't think I need to mention that music...
As good as this game is looking right now, it still seems that the marketing team need to rethink some things.

E: It still looks fucking swick, though.

DarkHoodness 06-05-2014 11:17 AM

Oh yeah.

Most of us fans are okay.
But please, the UXB press animation in this Indie 9 Video was horrible. You can clearly see Abe's arm would break during this move!...

(I should've made this earlier this afternoon, but whatever)

Manco 06-05-2014 11:32 AM

To be honest I’m not in love with the more sci-fi design elements in NnT. I always liked the vaguely 19th-century stylings of RuptureFarms, it calls back to the Industrial Revolution and all the soot, grime, appalling working conditions and general grossness of that time.

The music certainly isn’t my favorite as well, but it’s not reflective of the in-game soundtrack so I’ll live.

Honestly though this looks fine and I don’t get the complaints. This building doesn’t stand out at all when you line it up with Oddworld architecture over the course of the series – Sekto Springs Dam, Vykkers Labs, Magog Motors and the Slog Kennels are all pretty crazy too.

Yeah, god forbid they spend a little while fixing up small problems as opposed to releasing it straight away and being full of them.

It wouldn't take a little while, it would take a very big while, and it would really not be worth it in the end.

It's called dissociation, google it.

I'll pass, seeing as the thought of it kinda creeps me out.

Also, how are people compaining about the new Rupture Farms? It looks fucking awesome!

To correct minor issues, like short animations?

It happens every single time you read, watch or play something.

Read what Manco said.

Except the tone of AO is different to the tone of the games succeeding it, but I doubt we need to get into that discussion again.

The artwork is done really well, and the new RF does look impressive - Sleek and futuristic, appropriate to "the biggest meat processing plant on Oddworld" and Mullock's status, and as Manco said, not out of place compared to other Glukkon facilities in later games.

However, grimy appearance of the old version gave it a sense of being an oppressive, filthy and dangerous place owned by greedy industrialists who couldn't give a crap about ethics or pollution - In effect, saying a lot about the game's antagonists. Maybe the new one does that too, but it looks too clean and sleek to do it as well IMO.

Yay for being nitpicky 'n stuff - But it's just some thoughts. It won't ruin my enjoyment of N'n'T any, and I'm liking everything else very much indeed. :)

NEW RUPTURE FARMS IS TOO CLEAN

TOO CLEEEAAN

Varrok 06-05-2014 12:03 PM

I think I like the song. The girl has surprisingly strong voice for someone completely unknown. And it's only trailer, they don't always reflect the real game well.

The logo is still horrible. Like, ultra, piss-poor, bad.

Nepsotic 06-05-2014 12:03 PM

Perhaps the reason they changed it was to give it a more iconic look, like SoulStorm Brewery and the Mines. There's no clear shape to the old Rupture Farms because we never saw much of it from the outside, but I don't think it's necessary to give it an iconic look, it makes it seem smaller, less mysterious and therefore less dangerous. Also clean and sci-fy-y. :{

You know that was intentional though, right?

Varrok 06-05-2014 12:06 PM

Nepsotic 06-05-2014 12:09 PM

That Gears of War trailer.

Varrok 06-05-2014 12:12 PM

The trailer was better than the actual game, I know. It would sell worse with a straight-up-gun trailer, I think.

JayDee 06-05-2014 12:36 PM

I like the new look of Rupture Farms, I take it this means that we won't be seeing the same intro that we'd seen before?

Gilrod 06-05-2014 12:36 PM

So want to know who did the new matte paintings?

I'll give you one guess ;-)

Varrok 06-05-2014 12:40 PM

Was it you? :D

Holy Sock 06-05-2014 12:41 PM

Sherry??

JayDee 06-05-2014 12:42 PM

Comon Varrok we had ONE guess. We really should have put forward a democratically elected representative.

I for one, vote Varrok.

Manco 06-05-2014 12:42 PM

Lorne.

Lorne.

You ruined the lame fun, Manco.

Manco 06-05-2014 12:51 PM

There’s no fun in these threads, just arguments and sarcasm.

Anyway, I dunno if that building is meant to be the main RuptureFarms structure (replacing the one external view we got of RF in the original game). Taking into account the huge watchtowers and how much larger RF is being portrayed, plus the fact it has a conveyor belt of shipping crates moving inside it which gives it an oddly small scale, it seems to me like that building is just one of several structures within the New n Tasty® RuptureFarms.

Is it really that small? RP has only, like, 99 workers (plus security and management)

Ledeux 06-05-2014 01:02 PM

Its pretty sweet if you watch it muted and maybe even play some original Rupture Farms beats to it.

Consider the scale of the interior environments seen during gameplay. All of that taking place inside that one building just wouldn’t be feasible.

There are only two possibilities: either most of RuptureFarms’ interior environments are underground, or there are multiple buildings that make up the complex.

This reminds me of my theory that some of the areas in Rupturefarms in game take place on the catwalks we see outside of the central complex, though that got shot down soon enough because, "Rupturefarms is big."

Holy Sock 06-05-2014 01:07 PM

Unless those crates are incredibly huge.

...there were those round trains, that leaded to another parts of RP. I think these were different building. Even the air was in a different colour

Gilrod 06-05-2014 01:42 PM

Raymond Swanland ;)

Varrok 06-05-2014 01:45 PM

He did a great job.

DarkHoodness 06-05-2014 01:46 PM

Was gonna suggest him but responded too late. Glad to hear/see he's working with you again. :)

JennyGenesis 06-05-2014 02:14 PM

Well I was hoping to see the release date in that trailer, but nevermind :'(

Clannfear 06-05-2014 02:14 PM

New RF is amazing cause it shows (with glowing light) zulag hierarchy (at the bottom there is our starting place, the middle-heart of factory is zulag 2 and at the top we have the center of evil with all nasty glukkons).

Jordan 06-05-2014 02:17 PM

I'm in love with the new look. I'm a sucker for Science Fiction environments.

I've stared at his painting of the Song Engine for hours, for reference. And his name never even popped into my head. Great work.

STM 06-05-2014 02:22 PM

I actually really love the new Rupture Farms, it looks like the older concept designs, especially the sickly green lighting emanating from within, this was back when RF was (if I remember correctly) something of a pseudo-religious temple. This does make me wonder, might there be some small changes to the story line? Perhaps some stuff that was cut or never made it into the original but was in the original vision for the game...

Also fucking lord the level of whining and nitpicking is absolutely horrifying. Also did someone actually say a woman singing has no place in a 'masculine' game such as a Oddworld? Wow.

Now it makes a bit more sense with ingame colourful fog/light backgrounds

STM 06-05-2014 02:51 PM

Yeah, like I tried to find a reference in the Oddworld Image Gallery but I can't, I know it's in the First Ten Years book though.

Scrabaniac 06-05-2014 03:05 PM

Just a thought.. Why don't we ever see any Paramonia footage? I mean there have been like .5 second clips, but the most attention is on Scrabania. I hope thats not because they worked harder on Scrabania..

MeechCrunchies 06-05-2014 03:07 PM

Can someone get to work uploading these pictures to TOGG?
I'm currently in a place where on average 4 out of 5 of these images I'm unable to view due to various restrictions and whatnot, and I won't even be able to see the new trailer due to the Youtube filters.
