Yep.

Don't say that in front of OANST, he'll shank you.

Actually, I agree with Nep. I just think a lot of things are bad art.

Can't understand these childeren, eh listen to dubstep and watch creppy nude art

Mr. Bungle 10-29-2012 01:43 PM

I can't imagine any children's book publishing company that would let those into their books, thus traumatically scarring a whole generation of kids.

That said, they're nice pictures.

á prospos

there's this hyper realism painter and if you're at any time around vienna, take a look at his paintings. he has a permanent exhibition in the leopold museum. his paintings are HUGE and it's quite unsettling to stand before them. you mostly don't even see the strokes.
Although I don't really like his paintings, I am really impressed by how he manages to fake the blurred photo effects only with oil and acrylic.

The first one was pretty surreal. I like surrealism.

OANST 10-30-2012 07:38 AM

I'm having a hard time accepting the last one as a painting. I'm not saying it isn't. I'm just saying holy shit if it is.

Sekto Springs 10-30-2012 07:41 AM

I love that Mickey Mouse painting. I had it as my icon on MSN for a while back when I first saw it.

If you want hyper realism, check out Eloy Morales.

Sekto Springs 10-30-2012 07:44 AM

Right? People carelessly throw around the term "mindblowing" on the internet, but this time it actually is.

Dynamithix 10-30-2012 08:03 AM

Very very impressive.

Wings of Fire 10-30-2012 08:13 AM

That's the kind of realism I appreciate. Especially the reddy-brown one.

Nepsotic 10-30-2012 08:31 AM

Kinda looks like his face is melting. I like it.

Mr. Bungle 10-30-2012 10:45 AM

Am I allowed to post album artwork?

Fuck it, doing it anyways. It counts.

Beautiful.

Apocolyptic, bleak, depressing. Minimalism at its finest.

http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mc...xz0yo1_500.jpg

I don't know why I love this one so much, but I do. Very... nostalgic. Not sure why.

Loneliness in one picture.

http://www.progarchives.com/progress...1715102008.jpg

I love industrial styled art, so this one really hit home.

Uhh, I guess that's it for now.

STM 10-31-2012 02:51 AM

Number 2 and 5 are truly terrific, not that the others aren't good but those two stood out for me. Those hyper-realistic pictures are absolutely god damn amazing too, how could you ever tell they were paintings if you didn't see the process!?

scrabface 10-31-2012 06:43 AM

argh fuck I accidentally closed the tab and lost all the neat pictures I've been preparing for you. I won't do it again

Some of those looks like photographs of cut-out cardboard people. I can't tell if they are or not.

scrabface 10-31-2012 07:17 AM

that's because they are cut-out cardboard people.

MeechMunchie 10-31-2012 01:05 PM

I like the use of coloured light to tint the details.

Sekto Springs 10-31-2012 10:56 PM

I like how they couldn't decide on a name for the second one.

They're alluding to a common titular trend from the olden days where stories or shows would sometimes have two titles separated by "or". We still do this today, but we omit the "or" like "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" or "Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn".

MeechMunchie 11-01-2012 09:56 AM

I like I Was A Rat! or The Scarlet Slippers.

I don't have anything else to add, I just really love that book.

Those are pretty bad examples though; they’re just the title of the overall series combined with a subtitle.

Frankenstein, or The Modern Prometheus is different from Final Fantasy, or The Spirits Within.

I'll give you that the Evil Dead one was a bad example, it's just the first that sprang to mind. Final Fantasy, however, had nothing to do with the games and that's a good example of contention over a title. Though I suppose you could liken that more to a cheap marketing hook, kind of like Monty Python's Jabberwocky, even though Monty Python had nothing to do with it.

I know there are better examples of modern media that do this, but I can't be arsed to think of any.

Wings of Fire 11-01-2012 11:18 AM

It's not exactly modern, but isn't Dr. Strangelove or:How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb THE film example of this?

OANST 11-01-2012 11:22 AM

Yes. Yes, it is.

Sekto Springs 11-01-2012 01:06 PM

Yes, but I wasn't counting on Nep knowing what that is. Maybe I should stop assuming everyone is stupid.

Or maybe I should keep doing it.

MeechMunchie 11-01-2012 02:52 PM

I think it's annoying, but presumably my opinion is too stupid to count.

OANST 11-03-2012 07:18 AM

Yes. Yes, it is.

MeechMunchie 11-03-2012 04:58 PM

Man, what a dick.
