My mind just imploded

I found this very interesting, though it's a long video.

WHATEVER IT'S STUPID NO MATTER WHAT YOU CALL THEM.

There's also the Protheans from Mass Effect. You know, the mysterious dudes who turned out to just be jamaican.

I did find the Jamaican accent to be a bit silly.

But American aliens are just fine?

When making any kind of fantastical fiction you are stuck with having to present creatures that come from "elsewhere" as understandable. To do that you ask that the user/viewer suspend disbelief enough to accept an accent that is similar to the one they are already accustomed to. However, when you start asking people to accept multiple "familiar" accents then the viewer starts seeing these different races as "Jamaican," "British," or "American." Add on top of that accents which inherently sound silly to begin with (this is a personal thing. I personally think the Jamaican accent is funny sounding, especially when faked) and you begin to lose suspension of disbelief.

Sometimes it can be quite funny.

I know what you mean, though, but it's hard for them to "create their own accent", and hearing the same ones coming from aliens all the time can be tiresome.

It's a fine line, and there is really no "right" way to do it. You just have to try to avoid making them sound silly as best you can.

They should have gone with South African. That accent sounds alien already.
