mmmm

Elmatto753 01-11-2011 11:34 AM

Om nom nom...
Seriously, I didn't know that. Were they in AO or AE at all? Those are the games I own and I've seen Metroixer's MO playthrough, but that's it.

ODDWORLDisTHEbest! 01-11-2011 11:41 AM

there, two types of computer, a status board is also one.

Wil 01-11-2011 11:43 AM

There are several computer sitting around the levels of MO, mostly in Vykkers Labs and Glukkon offices. One of the missions in SW is the recovery of a laptop. The Slig that talks on the fone to Dripik, Aslik and Phleg is sitting at a computer... of sorts. The presence of machines like Shrinks and Greeters implies computer technology.

Elmatto753 01-11-2011 11:44 AM

@Oitb: They don't look like they could play CD-ROMs...
@Max: Thinking about it yeah, there are a few around.

ODDWORLDisTHEbest! 01-11-2011 11:47 AM

what do max and nate masturbate with Elmatto?

Elmatto753 01-11-2011 11:51 AM

They probably use the cloud...

ODDWORLDisTHEbest! 01-11-2011 11:55 AM

interesting, i wonder how you know that?

Xavier 01-11-2011 12:00 PM

What the hell guys, quit the spam otherwise you'll get infracted!

Elmatto753 01-11-2011 12:00 PM

I know some stuff.
What if Abe got hold of a computer and hacked into the Glukkon database? You could get a decent game out of that concept.

hey its not our fault! once its starts you cant stop it!

i would like a prequel, you know, to see what abe used to do before he escaped, or a quintology game.

Elmatto753 01-11-2011 12:37 PM

What if Abe had to go back to Rupture Farms and SoulStorm Brewery after he blew them up to save mudokons that were hidden deep within them? That would result in some interesting level design and nice backgrounds. There could be screens from the originals that were now ruined and Abe had to find alternate routes through the facilities. The sligs could still be there as if some had survived and were still guarding the slaves.

ODDWORLDisTHEbest! 01-11-2011 12:42 PM

great idea! but how would the slaves have survived the explosion

Somehow I doubt Abe has any IT skill whatsoever.

He has a pretty hefty slap, sounds like an expert to me.

Magic. Or being deep underground. Or maybe as a plot twist it turns out that they didn't.

The original plan for MO had Abe and Munch venturing in to the ruins of Rupturefarms, possibly to investigate what ever happened to Molluck.

ziggy 01-11-2011 08:36 PM

If they were going to investigate the ruins of Rupturefarms then why did MO consist of those lame levels like Splinterz? Like why were they put there in the first place?

Xavier 01-12-2011 02:00 AM

Only a part of MO was supposed to be set on in RF's ruins, not the whole game. that leaves plenty of space for Splinterz and the other factories.

Thanks to the efforts of various forum good eggs, you could probably make that yourself with an AO/AE level editor.

what, so abe goes deep into the ruins of soulstorm brewery, faces countless enemies and dangers, goes through all of that just to find out that theyve been dead since before the game even started?

Elmatto753 01-12-2011 10:02 AM

Yep, that's the general idea. There are plenty of games that cheat the player worse.
But I think it would be better if they were alive.

ODDWORLDisTHEbest! 01-12-2011 10:24 AM

like system shock, trying to save a girl thats been dead since before the game started!

elums mum 01-13-2011 09:34 AM

In my many hours wondering about the marvel that is Oddworld I believe I have finally come up with a half-decent idea. I was thinking that they could create a 3d game that keeps to the jumping about and pace that the first two games had by using a similar concept as Mirrors edge. Now I know your all thinking wtf. But think about it, jumping up ledges , running from police (in our case Sligs). It could really work. Especially when you have Scrabs or Slogs chasing after you. Ofcourse it would have to be slowed down in some sections for puzzles, sneaking past sligs and ofcourse Mudoken rescueing. But what do you think?? Maybe for these sections a little bit of Metal gear solid influence???

Just an idea.

Havoc 01-14-2011 04:40 PM

I'd want a decently developed Munch's Oddysee, the way it was intended.

What should it be called then?

Munch's Oddysee. We just forget that the original ever existed.

Munch's Oddysee.

There can't be 2 different Munch's Oddysee games with the exactly same name.

Elmatto753 01-15-2011 04:55 AM

Yes there can. Game developers often remake games using exactly the same name as the original. Sometimes they make new games with the same title as an old one (ie. Sonic the Hedgehog).

It's so confusing.

Wil 01-15-2011 05:33 AM

There already are two completely different games with the name Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee.

Manco 01-15-2011 07:48 AM

I think I've already made this point elsewhere in the forums, but remaking Munch's Oddysee as part of the Quintology and calling the original non-canon is a bad idea.

Xavier 01-15-2011 08:03 AM

I'd rather have munch's exoddus than an other munch's oddysee.

Elmatto753 01-15-2011 08:37 AM

Agreed. The one we have now wasn't great, but the story worked.

Is GBA's Munch any good? I wanted to buy it for a while, but I noticed it has pretty bad reviews and I didn't want it that much anymore...

Anyways, a cool idea would be if in a future Oddworld -game, you'd unlock a collection of minigames if you beat the game like... 100% or something. And the minigames could have small backstories to them.

D'oh! I forgot! Including the Mudokon Abe killed in Necrum Mines, there were in fact 301 Mudokons!

More like 296, Abe brought 5 with him.

Ooooh, very true...

Wil 01-17-2011 02:49 AM

Oh, uh, in that case forget the one Abe kills. It's a nice and odd 295.

Would anyone be interested in some sort of card game or model game based on the Oddworld franchise?

Just look at WH40K, first models, then books, games, cards, video's...Oddworld as a universe is massive, almost as big as WH and bigger than other similar games like Magic the gathering.

ziggy 01-21-2011 01:48 PM

It would probably suck because Oddworld characters don't cast magic spells and attack + 40 Damage points and stuff. But I hate that crap anyway so I'm just expressing my disinterest in that. eeew
