With Stranger's Wrath, it gets to the menu, but then I cannot do anything, no menu scrolling, no selecting, and the controls still show xbox controls (A to select, D pad to navigate) etc.

Help please?

Nate 12-25-2010 05:31 PM

Have you tried using the arrow keys on the keyboard to navigate the menus?

Have you tried using the arrow keys on the keyboard to navigate the menus?

I do believe that would be the most obvious choice. Aye, I did try every single key on my keyboard.

Edit: Ok, when I press the Windows button so the start menu pops up, and click back into the game on a menu item, the controls temporarily switch to keyboard from xbox. This is in game or in menu. then it changes back to Xbox 360, even in the controls options, it changes from a diagram of a 360 controller to a keyboard diagram. stays in Xbox 360 if I run it in compatibility mode.

AvengingGibbons 12-26-2010 02:10 AM

Does anyone else have the problem in Munch's Oddysee when using the keyboard as the controller, when you try to run and jump forward (using the up arrow), Munch DOESN'T jump, but if you run and jump sideways (using the left or right arrows), then Munch DOES jump.

Does anyone know if they are aware of this problem? Is there some sort of fix already?

Wil 12-26-2010 03:11 AM

Run-jumping is weird. On my first install I couldn't run-jump in any diagonal. On the second, every direction was fine. After the patch, the second install I could run-jump in every direction except up-and-left.

Abeguy 12-26-2010 09:02 AM

SW starts now, and I can maneuver, but I had to disable "HID compliant game controller" in my Device Manager, but now whenever I move the camera up, the whole visuals freeze, and the only thing moving are lighting effects.

I have a Macbook Pro running Windows 7 on Bootcamp, with a Dual Core 2.5 and an Nvidia GeForce 9600 at 2 GBs

Hmm don't think anyone has lag issues with MO, runs at 300fps for me on E8400 @ 3ghz / Geforce 9800GT / 4gb ram. I've heard of the sound issues though in the FMVs - no way to fix those until its patched I think.

Manco 01-01-2011 05:35 PM

Reporting in on my own thread:

Munch's Oddysee plays fine.

Stranger's Wrath I get no video, just a black screen - I can still hear the audio and I can interact with the menu though.

I bought Munch's Oddysee recently and it runs well with almost no problems

AMD Phenom X2 3,1Ghz
2GB RAM
HD5770 1GB
Win7 32bit

All problems I encountered (and more) I posted in http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=1696244 - It would be nice of you to see if I missed any :)

Crashpunk 01-04-2011 01:39 AM

After the Steam Patch. Munch's Oddysee has had no problems.
now all I need is a controller :P

Update: Just Add Water is back in town, and apparently are aiming to get a patch for Stranger's Wrath out this week: http://forums.steampowered.com/forum...&postcount=394
:

Hey Guys,
I'm back. And with some good news too...

Sorry I've not been around since the 24th, but I decided to take time off over the Christmas Holidays, and as such decided to NOT do ANY work at all.

Anyway, here's an update for you...

1. I bought a new machine with an i5 processor and an ATI Graphics board, so I could see these issues myself. And indeed I could.

2. We have made a single optimisation so far that has sped the game up quite a bit, from an average of 18fps at 800x600 (low), on my old machine, to 60fps. Obviously this is 4 year old hardware, and I'll be trying it on my new machine soon, but that's a nice improvement to begin with. We will be doing some other bits n bobs to keep that at either a constant or better rate.

3. The First Person Camera problem with nVidia boards is fixed.

Our aim is to get a patch out for Stranger later this week, but that does depend on how we get on with stuff. We are busy making a fair few changes, but we want to get them right before we do release the update.

Cheers, and Happy New Year.

Stewart
I'm glad he's back, the Steam Forums have been like the Wild West this past week.

EDIT: also expect another Munch patch sometime in the coming month: http://forums.steampowered.com/forum...54&postcount=8
:

As SanchoKobe said, we ARE working on this very hard with Stranger and also Munch.

We are hoping to get a nice Stranger update out in the next week, and then a Munch one later this month with a LOT of changes to it.

Cheers, and a Happy New Year.

Why are they patching Munch again?

Manco 01-04-2011 11:01 AM

Why are they patching Munch again?

Probably to fix some smaller bugs people might be having, adding more language support and other features.

MadmanMad 01-05-2011 06:25 AM

Probably the fact that some peoples games, like mine, have reletivly no sound.

Probably the fact that some peoples games, like mine, have reletivly no sound.

Probably this too. The first patch was to fix the major crashes that most people were getting; the second patch will probably fix less common issues and smaller bugs.

Crashpunk 01-05-2011 07:19 AM

Apparently MO has been crashing at a new place

Splinterz, the 2nd Boiler.

Splinterz, the 2nd Boiler.

I just played up to Splinterz Manufacturing to see if you were right. I got a crash while shooting at Sligs coming from a Slig spawner. I don't know if it's a one-off yet, but I'll be making a note of it (and any repeats) here and at the Steam forums.

EDIT: Definitely not a one-off.

Gabriel_HS 01-05-2011 11:11 AM

I cant play Stranger's Wrath in full screen mode. I have a Radeon HD4890.

EDIT: I tried this:

Edit config.txt:

width=1920
height=1080
resolution=custom

Its fullscreen now, but it has been flattened. Is this how it was supposed to be, or it should be 16:9 without any distortions?

This, my game plays perfectly fine but the sound keeps cracking up ALL THE TIME and sometimes doesn't play at all for a duration of 7 seconds or so. While the music works perfectly fine.

An update on the yet-to-be-released Stranger's Wrath patch from the Steam forums:

:

Update January 6th 2010
Just has a general update to All...

1. We have fixed the nvidia issue in first person mode.
2. We have HUGELY increased performance, a tester who had the game running at only 20fps in 800x600 mode is now running at around 60fps in 1920x1050 res.
3. We have also moved/altered the way saved games work. We forgot about the "permissions" issues with the "Program Files" folder in Vista/Win7, as a result we have moved saved games to "C:\users\USERNAME\appdata\Roaming\Oddworld\Strang er's Wrath\".

Other alterations that are WIP ...
a) Native resolutions available to the player will be made available (IE what can your card do)
b) Removing the joypad auto-detect from the game itself, and allowing players to chose which control system via the launcher.
c) Updated Keyboard UI screen.
d) Audio glitch in opening moving, being looked at. (Actual movie is glitched).
e) Fix achievements.
f) Customisable controls.

Manco 01-06-2011 08:17 AM

:

c) Updated Keyboard UI screen.
I love this part the best. They must be really sick of people complaining about that screen if it's mentioned in the patch update.

keeperxiii 01-08-2011 07:23 AM

The keyboard doesn't really affect me much, there aren't a lot of controls and they have the standard fps controls with little variation.

What bugs me is the crappy fps camera and the frame rate. Damn this game.

MojoMan220 01-08-2011 01:50 PM

A couple things I noticed...

I'm using a wired 360 controller (new) and whenever I try to sneak, it's very hard to find the right spot when moving the thumbstick. I end up walking which wakes up sleeping sligs. Is anybody else having difficulty with this?

Also, I'm not sure if this was the case on the Xbox version, but pop-in is really noticeable even despite the thick fog. Spooce in particular are constantly appearing out of nowhere instead of gradually fading in the fog. Similarly, some structures start to erase unnaturally before the fog can obscure them properly.

The sneaking on the original Xbox version was notoriously hard to do as well; the difference was that back then clicking the thumbstick would force you into a fast sneak.
I wouldn't worry about it much, though - sneaking is basically useless in-game.

Also did I mention the Stranger patch has a projected timeframe of "within seven days" as of Friday? Because it's true.

Even so, you can use this:

DXTweak2:

and the XBCD drivers for the X360 controllers:

That can be due to the bigger resolution in which the game is running. Try messing with the options in your nvidia or ati control panel with different profiles.

Stranger not working..

Well, every game expect Stranges Wrath it working..

I get errort that says "Application Load Error 405693<- Some number for example) :nonono:

Im tried everything and NOTHING WORKS :banghead:

keeperxiii 01-09-2011 09:45 AM

That has got to be corrupted game files.

MeechMunchie 01-15-2011 01:20 PM

When I try to launch AE in Steam, the Launching... window finishes but the game doesn't appear. Exoddus.exe is running, but I can't end the process. I verified the game cache and disabled any background processes I thought might be intefering, but I can't be sure.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Are you running Windows 7? If so, 7 has a nasty habit of running that rundll32.dll guy in the background.

7 launches rundll32 in the background whenever you try to run an old game to attempt to gather cover box information for the crappy games explorer. The problem is, it's badly programmed, and they still haven't fixed it (to my knowledge). Basically, if your internet is turned off, it will start the process when you start the game, the game won't start, you'll be forced to end the game's process and start the game again, and the rundll32 process will keep munching on cpu until it grabs 100% cpu usage.

The only current fix is to start the game, end the game's process, start it again, alt tab and then end the rundll32 process.

I hope it helped.

MeechMunchie 01-16-2011 11:25 PM

I don't have #7, but my system does have a couple of rundl32's running. I'll try it later and check. Thanks.

keeperxiii 01-17-2011 02:22 AM

Then beware, at least 1 of those rundll32's is probably a virus.

Nate 01-17-2011 02:39 AM

Don't be silly, keeperxiii. Windows often has multiple rundll32's running.

Manco 01-17-2011 02:46 AM

Ugh, I am so sick of arguing on the Steam forums. If anyone from JAW is reading this, please get the SW patch out soon.

That said, I was talking to a certain someone there (via PM), and I'm pretty hopeful we'll be seeing it soon.

keeperxiii 01-17-2011 02:52 AM

:

From win xp onwards I haven't seen Windows using this.

And rundll32.dll is very commonly used by viruses. The generic name "rundll32.dll" might tip you off that this could be anything being used by any program ;).

It's like this:

Rundll32.dll is a generic name for a .dll running in the background, thus, it's very commonly used by viruses. It's quite simple actually.

MeechMunchie 01-17-2011 09:01 AM

Didn't work, I'm afraid. Anything else, anyone?

keeperxiii 01-17-2011 09:54 AM

You're using win xp, right?

Have you already checked the integrity of the game's files with steam? Have you tried to remove the game and download it again?

Can you post a pic of all your processes when you start the game?

Manco 01-17-2011 12:52 PM

:

()
Didn't work, I'm afraid. Anything else, anyone?

I'm going to ask the obvious questions: did it work before, or is this your first time installing the game? If it worked before, have you changed any hardware/software recently?

MeechMunchie 01-18-2011 05:06 AM

I'm on XP, this is my second install of AE Steam version, I have a perfectly functional CD version, verified cache integrity twice, defragmented the game files, and my PC setup's been the same for months. I don't recall installing anything that would affect this, and all my other Steam games work fine.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling it? Also, do you own AO, and if so does that work?

Anyway, just coming in to say that it looks like the Stranger's Wrath patch will be out today: http://forums.steampowered.com/forum...68&postcount=2

We are just about there with everything and will be sending the update off to Valve shortly.
