Plus, they can hardly just go "yeah, see that game over there? Not canon". I'd rather see the rest of the story told via Exoddus.

DIS IS GOOD NEWS, I could thrust all of you...but I won't

I just think it would be confusing to people who aren't privy to all the ins and outs the way we are.

And of those people lots won't care, and the rest will comprise the usual confused fans that have always existed in any fandom.

Ifwhen Oddworld films come out, the story will be vastly different to the games. Does that mean the games aren't canon? It's been an inevitability that there will be different stories for each, uh, story since Lorne first gave the first hint of wanting to do an Oddworld film. Maybe I've just been aware of that long enough to grow comfortable with the idea.

By the way, I don't actually have any particular feelings one way or the other. It's just that your reasoning isn't enough to sway me.

My only point being that the confusion could ultimately hurt sales.

Sekto Springs 12-06-2010 01:34 PM

Devil May Cry did it. Though I can't attest to whether or not they should have.

But that was a series reboot, and Devil May Cry is much better entrenched in the public's mind than Oddworld is at this point.

However, a complete series reboot, going all the way back to Abe's Oddysee could work very well.

I think that since films and games are different media, they don't have to subscribe to the same canon or story - it's like saying that the Batman movies must fit into the same canon as the comics.

And yes, I'm aware that comics also have different canon/stories within the same media, but these are all self-contained - none of them encroach on or overwrite other stories/canon.

Basically what I'm saying is OWI should either keep MO as canon and expand upon it, or come up with a new story - they can't declare that game non-canon and continue the same story.

So, remake AO, AE and MO?

Yeah why not, but I rather have something truly new.

Agreed. I want something completely new. A new game with new characters and gameplay with some aspects from the old ones.

Once they do that, then I think then they should remake the old ones.

just_an_(ODD)alisque 12-07-2010 05:03 AM

Welcome back,Alf! :)

Well, that's what I've been saying. But if they have to do a reboot, I don't think they should start at MO, but instead should go back to the beginning. As they aren't likely to do either, it's a moot point anyway.

lismati 12-07-2010 05:50 AM

They may go backwards, I mean first remake of SW, then MO and so on...

Bullet Magnet 12-07-2010 05:51 AM

Wait, are they re-releasing Stranger's Wrath while also planning to release the remastered one down the line?

lismati 12-07-2010 05:54 AM

I meant that PS3 version. It's kinda remake after all, isn't it?

Wait, are they re-releasing Stranger's Wrath while also planning to release the remastered one down the line?

Yes, but the first is for the PC, the second is for the PS3. I don't know why the remastered one isn't for PC...

No, just a remastering.

Bullet Magnet 12-07-2010 08:56 AM

People will be ticked off if they have a new copy of SW and then the special one comes out only a little while after.

Xavier 12-07-2010 09:01 AM

The thing is, they are not on the same platform...

Paul 12-07-2010 09:05 AM

I wouldn't get too annoyed over them just being ports of old games. Since it seems pretty clear other stuff is going to happen too. And from a PR point of view it wouldn't make sense to be all "OMG ODDBOX AND X AND Y AND Z AND MAYBE Q" because it would overwhelm people and move attention away from the upcoming releases.

So perhaps a couple of months after OddBox is out we'll see something new?

Mr. Bungle 12-07-2010 10:42 AM

I think they're using these ports as a way to fund their new projects. At least, I hope this is the case.

Sekto Springs 12-07-2010 11:20 AM

The redux of SW for PS3 is something of a promotional move.
Yes, SW comes included on the Oddbox, but that's exclusively for download and it's a package deal.
The PS3 release is them saying "Okay, here's what we're capable of" to future consumers, as well as giving a criminally underrated game the boost it didn't get from EA.

Paul 12-07-2010 03:20 PM

Hang on.. the PC version will *not* be the remastered one? :|

Nate 12-07-2010 03:56 PM

That's correct.

So perhaps a couple of months after OddBox is out we'll see something new?

Well, a couple of months after OddBoxx is out, we'll see the PS3 version. Then a couple of months after that... probably nothing much, given the length of time needed to create games these days.

ledsnipe 12-07-2010 08:15 PM

You Dawg, I heard you like Alf, so I put Alf into your rehab, so you can Alf when you Alf. (Or something like this)

marlz 12-15-2010 12:59 AM

All I can say is...
Alf, tell Lorne Lanning and the crew at OWI that I'm sorry if I over posted in the Oddboxx section of the new Oddworld site, cause I noticed that everything I posted was removed (why that was the case, I don't fully know).

AND WELCOME BACK! How's the Rehab and Tea going?
