Here is the beta version, don't expect it get much better than this other than a bit more stable and teleport/smash animations..
Edit: Removed the binary as people are reporting "its a virus" |
I think that the sligs could afford to fall a it faster, if that's possible.
Still, well done. These are great! +rep |
That's really well done... and I had to laugh whenever you click on them the do a jig across the screen.
|
It could have been done a lot better using hooks and such, but meh it was hacked together and it works..
If any of you sprite people want to help with tagging all the sprites head over to the open source alive engine thread. I want to beable to auto generate sprite sheets for all Mud/Slig/Elum/Abe+Elum/Paramite and Scrab animations. I'll also need help getting the exact format of the original level files too, by this I mean how the screen connect together because this isn't always clear (E.g in Rupturefarms the slate stone maps are to the right with a 1 screen space between them). I can give much more details if anyone wants to help :D |
I think we only need mudokon, elum and slig to keep it effectively brill!
CAN't OPEN, apparently Norton thinks it's a heuristic virus |
What dodgy shit are you inflicting on us, Paul :p
Maybe it's a good thing I only ran it on my mums computer... |
It likely thinks its a virus because it sees that its trying to monitor the position of all open windows, normally used for seedy things like keyloggers :P That and because the EXE is compressed to save space, most anti viruses don't like packed files, a good test is always to use http://virusscan.jotti.org/en which uses many scanners :)
Edit, NONE of the scanners pick it up as suspicious.. that impiles you have an old out of date buggy over aggressive heuristic anti virus (http://virusscan.jotti.org/en/scanre...386fa58a738b73) |
No offence or anything, but what you say in the matter has little or no meaning– you'd hardly tell us tif you were inflicting a virus unto us.
I can tell you that my Avast! says it's clean. |
It gave me a virus, but meh.
|
:
Do you understand now? Anyone who thinks its a virus is silly since why would I do that? If I was going to write a virus I would write a trojan that steals passwords or some such, which would mean it needs network access. (Please un UPX the EXE and look at its imports, it doesn't use winsock!) And given the fact that I'm going to release the source don't you think it would be slightly retarded to write a virus and then give the source away?? "It gave me a virus, but meh." is such a retarded statement.. what you mean is that your anti virus told you its a "heuristic" threat. This means it looked at the API's it uses and is telling you "hey this does some funny stuff, it MIGHT be bad" please read wtf your anti virus is telling you in future. Edit: Also, if I was writing a virus, I'd make damn well sure its not detected! @Phylum why does it have no meaning? So EVERY current UP TODATE virus scanner saying its clean has no meaning.. hmmm? |
I dont care though.
|
:
Edit: If anyone still thinks this is a virus please use process monitor from Microsoft and see it deletes no files, doesn't do anything to the registry or add itself to auto start etc. |
:
|
:
Edit: Removed the file since people are just going to say its a virus. I'm doing no more on this since its pointless. Also you did'nt warn anyone, you just said "it gave me a virus" which translates to "IT IS A VIRUS SO DONT OPEN IT". If you read the terms when you signed up people would already know its at their own risk. |
No, this is awsum, I dont "care", please do carry on your work is the best I have seen. Plus rep.
|
What I meant is that is you when you say it isn;t a virus it deosn't mean anything because if it was a virus you wouldn't admit it.
I ran it without scanning it from trust, then scanned it after reading your post after mine to back up your statement. Sorry if this was taken another way. |
To be honest, I'm not suprised that your virus scanners are picking this up as a virus... they're really pissy whenever it comes to strange, unverified software. Well, except for ClamWin, cause ClamWin rocks!
But your scanners will percieve these as infections/threats for they do the same with game cracks (gosh, now I feel so dirty.) |
Norton AV is a pile of crap:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antivir...alse_positives The only refs on false positives they have is Norton, rendering PC's unable to boot and other stuff like that. I imagine anything else I do on here is going to looked upon with suspicion from here on :/ Its just annoying to put a lot of my spare time and effort into something for someone to come along and just say "It gave me a virus" At least scrabtrapman said "Norton THINKS its XYZ". |
:
|
I never thought it was a virus, stupid Norton did. I was hoping for a solution. Since the damn thing's been blocked not quarantined.

Paul, please re-upload the file. We shouldn't all have to miss out because Gabbits is being retarded. If you look, only he and STM said it could be a virus seriously. I generally disregard all of STMs posts and I'm considering doing the same to Gabbit's after his actions in this thread.
I regret the opening of my post; it sounds bad reading it now. I hope you can forgive me, I was feeling quite tired at the time. The main intention of the post was to say that I had found no such "virus". I need another copy of the file, though. It has been deleted from my mums computer and I haven't used my computer in several days due to illness. If you aren't prepared to reupload because of Gabbits, could you please PM/email me them? EDIT: People posted while I was writing this but I'm too lazy to edit. EDIT2: I've also since noticed the virus scan results that I missed earlier. Sincerest apologies. |
[QUOTE=Phylum;456358]Paul, please re-upload the file. We shouldn't all have to miss out because Gabbits is being retarded.
Im not being retarted, I like this, and Im going to download norton now... Re scanned nothing found. |
You were either being retarded or not reading his posts. Take your pick
|
:
:
But, I respect your work and I also respect the fact that you picked up the task for a project that you weren't asked to do and if people don't have the common sense/courtesy to believe that you're not going to write malicious software then I say jump off and work on it for yourself. |
You were either being retarded or not reading his posts. Take your pick.
|
Wtf, fine I am retarded. Meni poo.
|
Was that directed at me? Or did you accidentally post the same comment again at GO?
|
Phylum I just said, IT WAS NORTON not me, don't put words into my mouth. I doubt that Paul would put a virus on my PC
|
Wasnt at you ridg3, I dont understand why I get critersized for re scaning and finding no Virus, Paul, I am truely sorry.
|
The comment posted twice.
EDIT: Everyone posting at once is getting quite messy. STM, you clarified you point while I was writing my post which I said I was too lazy to edit. |
Its not like that on my computer?
|
Ok, ok hold on, right, who can't play? What are the solutions and what can we do?
|
Wait, what?
Wrong thread? |
:
|
no, I can't play, and I thought Gabbits can't play
|
:
|
the freaking desktop thing.
|
I can play, wtf?
|
Okay, let's just all be quiet and pretend the antivirus software never said anything.
Paul, your project is promising, and we'd all like to see it continue. STM, if your AV was blocking the file and you wanted help, that's fair enough. I would just suggest making it very clear what you're trying to say. GO, get real. It's not a virus. It does nothing a virus does. Just beacuse the AV does it's job of detecting and notifying you of an incoming file, that does not mean the the said file is malicous. |
