I watched The Road. Sad movie made from a sad book. It was very well made.

Right? The only thing I disliked was how many flashbacks of the wife they had. I understand that they had to do it because virtually no one read the book, but still. Did you watch the deleted scenes? It broke my heart that they left lightning man out of the actual movie.

No. I didn't get the dvd. I watched it On Demand.

Poor lightning man. Really though, I can't think of anything else that was in the book that wasn't in the movie. I thought that they did a damn good job.

Disgruntled Intern 06-14-2010 09:23 AM

One of the only movies I regret not seeing in theaters. I also really liked the fact that they did short and sweet shots on the missing thumbs of the other survivors without explaining why they were missing. A nice little treat for those of us who read the book.

So why did you see it twice?

Because I'm me.

Uh, I don't remember what the thumbs mean, but didn't the guy who stole their cart have some missing fingers? That was because he was kicked out of the cannibal settlements or something, right?

Close. The guy who stole the cart had missing thumbs as did the 'good guy' who saves the son at the end. The missing thumbs were a punishment and permanent mark to show banishment from settlements/communes. Not Cannibal settlements. Why kick someone out of a cannibal settlement? That's just wasting meat.

The new Alice in Wonderland movie completely ruined the March Hare who was my favorite character in the Disney version, I mean he was so clever and funny in the Disney version, Tim Burton's March Hare just threw things.

Disgruntled Intern 06-14-2010 03:30 PM

Are you surprised? Tim Burton is dumb.

Sekto Springs 06-14-2010 03:53 PM

The American McGee's Alice movie has been floating around in pre-production limbo for nearly a decade now. Originally Wes Craven was signed to direct, but the script has changed hands several times and been re-written into oblivion.

Needless to say, between Burton's Alice, American McGee's, and Manson's Phantasmagoria, people are going to be pretty damn sick of Alice.

Disgruntled Intern 06-14-2010 04:20 PM

Going to be?

Have been.

Sekto Springs 06-14-2010 09:31 PM

According to Wikipedia there's about twenty-five Alice adaptations. Good lord.

Manson's Phantasmagoria.

Isn't that just about the writer going bat-fuck crazy?

abe is now! 06-15-2010 01:23 AM

i have just seen The Comebacks, I laugh a lot :)

Emesdee 06-15-2010 06:47 AM

The Gate, for the most part, it's a tame horror movie that can work for kids or adults, but the scene where illusions of the main character's parents come home, start choking him, and then he crushes there faces into a gooey pulp was kind of surprising. It's one of those movies I really wish I got to see as a kid.

OddjobAbe 06-15-2010 07:24 AM

Just bought the box set. Brilliant stuff.

MA 06-15-2010 07:46 AM

finally watched the Ashes To Ashes finale, which was pretty bloody good compared to the previous not-so-good episodes. although, this series was better than the previous 2 altogether.

The Gate was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid.

Last night I watched What We Do is Secret. I fucking love The Germs, and I was pretty damned satisfied with the movie. Shane West did a good job as Darby Crash. As good a job as anyone could, I mean.

Also watched Surrogates. That was also surprisingly good. Fun and good.

I fucking love The Gate.
I remember seeing it for the first time on TV as a tike and being terrified that a zombie would come out of my wall.

Disgruntled Intern 06-15-2010 02:35 PM

The part where he has to stab the eyeball in the palm of his hand always scared me and grossed me out.

Sekto Springs 06-15-2010 11:25 PM

Was a DVD or making-of ever released of that film?
I'd love to know how they did that massive swirling vortex effect near the end. That was one of the few films where I actually felt the immense scale of something like that.

Also, I watched Rock & Rule again for the first time in years. An awesome slice of animated cult. Highly recommend it for animation enthusiasts.

Actually, movie-related-question based on something a guy on another forum did.

Would you watch Inglorious Basterds with a 12-year-old? He thought it was totally okay, but I didn't think so.

Hmmm... depends. I don't think the issue is 'adult themes'; there's nothing in there that a mature 12 year old couldn't get and process. I think that the problem is the rather gory violence of some scenes. If he's fine with showing that to a 12 year old, then fine. I wouldn't be.

Disgruntled Intern 06-16-2010 09:48 AM

I just don't think a 12 year old could sit through that shitfest.

I don't think I'd watch any movie with a 12-year-old.

:

Probably. The point is it will contain allusions to Alice, so it will still be an 'Alice' movie. Unless Manson takes the whole Finding Neverland route, which sucked btw.

Wings of Fire 06-16-2010 04:53 PM

I watched Robocop when I was, like, five and it didn't badly affect me.

But no, I would not show Inglorious Basterds to a twelve year old.

Sekto Springs 06-17-2010 08:31 PM

Wishmaster. Fun movie, good sequel.
After the second it wandered into "so bad it's terrible" territory.

Disgruntled Intern 06-17-2010 08:34 PM

I watched Suspira instead of doing actual work today. Sometimes I feel guilty about what my bosses seem to be paying me to do

How do guys think Toy Story 3 is going to end?

I for one think Andy will take the toys back, drop out of college, and become a creepy, overweight toy collector. He then jumps through a time-warp and you find out he's actually the villain from Toy Story 2.

used:) 06-17-2010 10:35 PM

No, he'll sell them to Strike Witch, WoF, and Mac Sirloin.

Josh 06-17-2010 10:36 PM

Alice In Wonderland. Great, but then there was that depressing end. Then I rememberd it was Tim Burton.

Sekto Springs 06-17-2010 10:57 PM

So if the toy collector was Andy the whole time, why doesn't he just have sex with his younger self? That would nullify the time warp and he would have Woody and everything.

Sekto Springs 06-17-2010 11:06 PM

At some point along the way he lost Woody, which is why he goes back in time to get it from his younger self.

As to the sex thing... I have no idea how that would work, but okay.

Fuck off, they aren't Japanese!

Sekto Springs 06-17-2010 11:14 PM

No, but canonically they're coveted in Japan as the collector was going to sell them for a high price to a toy museum in Tokyo.

Should have read the book first. Read the rest of the books before watching the movies they're based on. There are a handful.

scrab queen 06-18-2010 12:13 AM

'Very Bad Things'. Great movie. Painful to watch at times. Seeing everyone else's reaction was hilarious though.

Disgruntled Intern 06-18-2010 12:18 AM

I rewatched that a few months back and just couldn't get into it. I remember liking it when I was about 16 or 17, but now...Nothing. Didn't even elicit a chuckle. The whining and bitching and moaning and screaming just wore on my nerves.

Hazel-Rah 06-18-2010 12:27 AM

Disgruntled Intern:Rest of what books Phillip K. Dick's? The only one of his books I've read was Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (listened to it actually) and that was MIND BLOWING
