Well someone never watched Sailor moon. =/

But if that's serious, I'm thinking you're fucking pathetic for ruining a friendship over a bloody sailor moon transformation sequence.

Wings of Fire 02-23-2010 07:10 PM

I'm taking a break from OWF for a couple of days, I feel very uncomfortable being on a forum where anyone thinks I'm any kind of pedophile, or that I have to defend what I like for such reasons.

Frankly Mat, I am disgusted by your conduct, calling me out and snubbing me in public is so far beneath you. I didn't read your edit text til very recently and now I feel quite hurt and betrayed. Grow up and realize that your opinion on matters is not objective fact. I certainly won't be responding to any further developments on this no matter how much you bait me

Do you think that you could not post videos, cartoon or otherwise, that show nine year old girls naked? I mean, I'm honestly disgusted by you right now. I was mostly joking before, but this is too much. And if you come at me with your excuses about cultural differences, or even attempt to tell me that it isn't sexual in nature I will block you. Not fucking kidding.

Edit: Blocked.

So what he wants to tell me is that a nine year old character taken from an eroge (Japanese porn game) is given her own series, shown completely nude in it multiple times in just the intro, but the reasons for it are to show how innocent she is.

Either you think that I'm a complete moron and you're trolling me, or you are so fucking enamored by all things Japanese that you think that they are beyond reproach. Which makes you a complete fucking moron.

And no, this isn't one of our fun little games.

Oh, come on. They didn't even show any cleavge or nipples. I, for one, was very disappointed.

Oh, come on. They didn't even show any cleavge or nipples. I, for one, was very disappointed.

Actually, they did.

WoF: You're disgusted that I continued the argument in public that began in public? Let's not be a hypocrite. I have to wonder how your brother would feel about all of your conversations being aired here without his knowledge.

And do not make this like I'm calling you a pedophile. You know that I'm not. I merely got fed up, and yes, disgusted by your absolute lack of objectivity in the matter. I'm offended that your constant answer is that I don't understand. Whether you blame my ignorance on cultural differences or stupidity doesn't matter. You feel confident that my opinion can be ruled out because "I don't get it".

You claim that the nudity is there to show innocence. Well, let's look at that objectively. Nine year old girls are body conscious. If you force a nine year old to stand naked in a group of her peers or adults she is likely to start crying. If you do the same with a four year old it is likely to start laughing and trying to show off it's peepee area. Showing a four year old running around in the nude can very easily be written off as art showing innocence. Also, if it was meant to show her innocence then why is she trying to cover herself? That doesn't make any fucking sense.

I understand that this isn't what you take from it. But it's so obvious from an objective stand point that their intentions are not what you want them to be. Call me a dick. Call me pathetic. But I can't continue having conversations with someone who I currently feel little more than frustration for. I don't feel frustration for you because you watch this. I feel frustration for you because you rationalize without looking objectively. Which is exactly what your brother does.

Wings of Fire 02-24-2010 09:26 AM

Okay I have steam to blow off. To hell with it.

Firstly the transformation sequences, an obvious homage to Sailor Moon, the perrenial magical girl anime. These sequences appear a lot in the genre, and like the Super Sentai or Mecha transformation sequences are meant to symbolize a character shift from a mundane alter ego to a SUPER FORM. It's also stock footage used to save the animators time and money. Many fans of Nanoha dislike these a lot, I think they are awesome.

But that's the thing, I think THEY are awesome.

It's flashy, cheesed up to the max, and with cool music playing in the background. The point is to appreciate the sequence being a homage to and the best example of in the genre. Not to provide loli fanservice.

Also before you object, please remember that the primary demographic of Sailor Moon was four to nine year old girls. There's nothing sexual about thiem at all, I don't find them objectionable and I'm usually quite quick to cry CHAUVINIST when I see something obviously so.

Next, the scene at Hayate in the end that you objected so strongly about, pay attention because this is going to teach you the importance of context.

Hayate is pretty much the woobie of the plot, she's a nine year old wheelchair bound EXTREMELY VULNERABLE GIRL and the first scene you see her with is her pushing her wheelchair struggling to get into her bed, next is you seeing her reaching for a book at the library in a high shelf but failing pathetically until one of Nanoha's friends from S1 comes along to help her.

That book she's holding that she's using to cover her nakedness with is the Book of Darkness, the MacGuffin of the series. It's pretty evil and is using Hayate to do evil shit, however Hayate finds the book at the start of the series and NEEDS it to gain power and attempt to make up for what she lacks (Use of her legs). It's a standard plot about an innocent in a bad situation being used by a power they can't understand, like Tenar from Tombs of Atuan. Having understood the context I believe that the scene in the intro was a good way to show her character, and to symbolize her innocence and vulnerability.

Also don't make shit up dude. I just watched the high definition download I have right now, there are no nipples or sexual organs in those scenes. You can't show that stuff on Japanese tv and you certainly cannot show it on American tv (Which they did). You want to do all your research, not just enough so your cynicism overrides your open-mindedness.

*****

Now for the main thing, last night.

I had just come from watching an intensely depressing movie last night of which I was crying for the entirety of the second half. I'm emotionally oversensitive and things like this affect me quite badly.

I came straight from watching that right into what can only be described as an outright interrogation by you, in which you were so cynical and self assured you didn't even give any time or thought to what I had to say. I was pretty stunned when you announced you were blocking me and remained so for a couple of hours. I also was going to ask Ghost to change her post because I thought she was being unfair on you. Then I read the edit you made to your post a few hours later.

You say that you're just finishing a conversation that we started in public? I'm calling you to fuck right off with that shit and stand up to the reality of your own complete lack of thought for others. Your post was rude, cuntish to the extreme, hurtful and basically amounts to a betrayal of my trust. I've had fights and arguments before with members of this forum and what I'm mature enough to NOT do when one of them gets out of hand is publically post the results and call the other a moron. That shows a complete lack of respect for me, and is pretty good indication of how highly you value me as a friend. Frankly, you've had nothing but your family, your self confessed moronic coworkers and your own deeply lying cynicism to console yourself with for too long that you've forgotten what it's like to behave towards people you should view as equals. I guess I was mistaken to look up to you and defend you to my friends because that pretty fucking hurt.

And don't you DARE, you DARE bring my brother into this. If you even knew half the shit I had to put up with about him, all the time I spend worrying my ass off about how my mother is coping and how frustrated and powerless I feel then you wouldn't so freely call out hypocrite. I need a place to sound off about a HUGE cause of stress in my life and I think it's pretty respectful of me to at least have the dignity to do so in a place I know he'll never visit.

MeechMunchie 02-24-2010 09:44 AM

The first time in the transformation sequence, I'm not entirely convinced the character was 'naked'. Those sort of sequences are heavily stylised. If you're going to have a character transform their outfit, the only viable option is to have them in one outfit at the beginning, and a different one at the end. Between, you have some kind of shiny special effect to both be entertaining for the viewer, and to make it clear that this is representing the engaging of special abilities (As opposed to the characters just running to one side to switch clothes because they don't want to get their other outfit dirty). The point is that representative aspect. The character isn't naked in the plot of the show (since this would likely attract attention from other characters), the drawing has just been drawn without clothes momentarily because the artists have to add new ones on.

By the second time, I was approaching my threshold for annoying anime and was downright confused. I haven't got a clue why there was a slowly rotating naked girl. Maybe it's supposed to represent vunerabilty or purity (you've got to remember that art has a history of choosing less obvious meanings for nudity). I don't know.

EDIT: I would call WoF a speedy shit but this took me about twenty minutes to write.

This argument is fallacious. You have over and over again made the point that plenty of other anime shows do this, and I have over and over again wondered how you thought that was a valid point. Also, I don't remember seeing Sailer Moon in the nude. Maybe I didn't watch the definitive version.

You're right. An extremely vulnerable nude girl being controlled by an outside force has no sexual connotations. It was obviously an artistic statement to make her naked.

I was fairly certain that during the transformation sequence she had her arms thrown out with her chest exposed. If it isn't there it sure as shit looks like it. And if they went out of their way to make it look that much like it's there, then only shows more of what their intentions are.

I should view you as an equal? Why? Because you've taken a philosophy class? Mostly, I feel as if there is a massive gulf between us in our conversations. You're perfectly fine until weeaboo Joe comes out. Weeaboo Joe offers nothing but silly rationalizations, and I grew tired of listening to it. I don't enjoy talking to people who can't rationally discuss something.

And Jesus Christ, don't anyone ever look up to me. I don't care about any of you, and I hope to god I've never given anyone the impression that I do. I'm not sure what that means about me. Admittedly I'm not a very nice person. When I am being nice it's usually because of actual effort on my part. As for being cynical, I'm not sure how being able to accurately add up 2 and 2 makes me a cynic. I mean, naked children from people who make porn...... Not a lot of math to do there.

Of course, I dare. Of course, I do. Your emotional baggage doesn't make it less hypocritical. Not that I care. I mean, your brother's a douchebag. But at least I have the courtesy to be a dick where you are going to see it.

Wings of Fire 02-24-2010 01:08 PM

I read that up to 'I should view as an equal, why?' before being to disgusted to continue. I did anyway.

Your arguments are just plain wacky, I don't get where you're coming from or getting at. The transformation sequence is a tradition, the girl is almost certainly what I think it is and injecting sexual content in there doesn't make the slightest bit of difference and I am not a hypocrite as there are about a thousand or so differences between what I am doing and what you did.

Have you ever thought that not regarding other people as equals is an inherent flaw in your way of thinking? How DARE you so casually deem me too frustrating to talk to at the moment, do this and think you're denying me of some kind of great privilege. People don't work like that.

You disgust me.

Mac Sirloin 02-24-2010 02:02 PM

I think it's pretty funny that OANST, A 29 year old Parent and the comparative adult in this situation is having this stupid, embarrassing argument with an (almost, a little under two hours) 20 year old Uni student who's maturity can dip below my own, and I buy children's toys.

Why don't you sack up for a second, OANST, and admit that maybe throwing this little temper tantrum over stupid Japanese cartoons was a poor choice? You will savagely defend a 44 year old Gothic soap opera with a shitty budget, but you can't tolerate that WoF likes a stupid baby cartoon from Japan?

And what does it say when Joe says that he derives nothing sexual from it, regardless of its pedobait status, and you vomit around such gems as "Do you think that you could not post videos, cartoon or otherwise, that show nine year old girls naked?" Who gives a shit? He likes his effeminate cartoon. Back the fuck off. We know you have a daughter, so this seems less like "herp de derp you can't like this because little girls" and more "OH FUCK IF I DON'T SAY SOMETHING ASININE I'LL LOOK LIKE A BAD PARENT"

Whatever though, you two are still arguing about stupid baby cartoons.

Fags.

Oh, and one more thing.
There was that one time where I threw a similar hissy fit to yours over Pilot and Sekto making queef jokes.
This is pretty much the same thing, only more retarded because there isn;t Pilot and Sekto's track record to get the Hate Puke boiling.

OANST 02-24-2010 02:09 PM

Also I watched a the first episode of one of them an-an-animu slices of wife under advisement from my Princess. It was really good but I can't remember the name of it. Sadface.

It had these three sisters in junior school, middle school and high school. The eldest sister was a sweet and calm neatfreak, the middle sister was a mad super hyperactive lazy idiot and the younger sister was a cruel snarky mean little girl who had some form of crush on the eldest sister.

I LOVE YOU JAPAN

I've been watching Hell Girl which is actually surprisingly good. It doesn't have some super-complicated and melodramatic story, and it doesn't rely on pseudo-politics.
It's simply an anime about a group called "Hell Correspondance" which has a website, and people who want revenge on someone can access it and put down the name of the person they want revenge on. This results in the person going to hell, and person who wanted the revenge will go to hell too, but after he dies only.
the episodes all sort of the same, but later in each season some plot development will actually happen.

No... But sometimes it's nice to take a break from it... It seems that everyone is hyped about animes with weird politics, and not all of them are super-good either x_x

I sometimes enjoy really simple animes that have a nice story. Like Mokke. Mokke is extremely simple but really enjoyable.
