But it's tasty cancer!

I can't imagine how inhaling burning leaves can be so tasty that you are willing to sacrafice your health.

You'd best not start smoking then XD It's like the muds with brew: One is too many and a million is never enough. They do have their benefits in my case though: Normally, I'm pretty easy to piss off. I've been more social since I started smoking. And well, when I was pissed off before I started, people usually got hurt.

Also, the things I smoke don't contain as many chemicals as mass-produced cigarettes anyway. It's just the shredded tobacco leaves, not fillers and such to keep said tobacco burning down to the filter.

EVP_Glukkon 08-22-2009 07:24 AM

I hate smokes, can't stand them. But the Glukkons seem to enjoy em, so go for it!
More smokes sold, more moolah!

I just can't stand people that argue for marijuana to be legal despite the brain damage it can cause. Pretty ignorant IMO.

So you're fine with the cigarettes that can cause cancer, the sugary treats that cause diabetes and the fatty food that causes obesity and heart disease?

EVP_Glukkon 08-22-2009 07:45 AM

Why do you assume that because if a person can accept the legal sale of smokes, they are therefore in agreement with every other health concern on the market?

A super-sized meal won't slip me into depression, an extra treat after dinner won't give me brain damage, and a smoke during lunch-break won't lower my job performance.

Use these products, don't abuse them. Thats the rule here.

Anonyman! 08-22-2009 07:54 AM

Again, my principle.

If it only hurts the person performing the action, I don't give a shit.

Well goodness, ditto what Nate said about diabetes and obesity--

...and the argument about pot causing brain damage is a weak one seeing as so many modern pharmaceuticals can be much worse- acetaminophen (Tylenol) causing liver damage, for example. In moderation it's great but if *abused* guess what?

The moral here, as you've ultimately concluded is exactly correct: everything is harmful when abused/used in excess.

Now since water is so good for us, let's all jump in a lake.

My father used to grow the stuff, he knew better than to abuse it. Didn't stop the affects he suffered from all the years of use, he slipped into depression not long after, and I lost him not long after that.

I won't mention the other victims from familes I know because thats personal.

Your argument seems to be "it doesn't matter because this is worse"
Really? Because that doesn't comfort me much, nor does it solve anything.

Better argument would be "smoking pot is bad, and hey, these pharmaceuticals suck too!" But no, smoking pot is apprently 'fine' because there are 'other things' to worry about.

That is a way of thinking that I just don't understand.

OANST 08-22-2009 09:55 AM

Except that you have absolutely no proof to back up your idea that pot is the culprit. Why would you assume that pot was the source of your father's depression?

Pilot 08-22-2009 10:04 AM

Yeah- it does tend to cause apathy and irresponsibility when overused. Pot's got a mild form of Acid in it so getting stoned to the point that your brain shuts off, and repeatedly, is the worst way to use it.

It works as a dynamite pain killer though. You don't mention any of the positive attributes; from what you've said you don't indicate to know of any.

The basis of my argument is in fact that there are more harmful things out there that are being used every day but it's considered "acceptable"- someone foolish enough to misuse any substance or product in light of reported complications it can cause is only inviting the consequence.

I'm hardly a pot advocate, I just like to see balanced viewpoints.

The fact that so few people acknowledge this is just sad.

moxco 08-22-2009 02:16 PM

I think OI is encouraging smoking. They're putting out the message that rich people smoke. Lawsuit!

Right. I just jumped in here and mentioned my father not because of the medical testing done to him that proved his usage was the cause, but because I just like to be social and tell tales.

@ Pilot

I'm well aware of the medical use for marijuana. But thats exactly the point isn't it? Medical use, not pleasure.

Rich 08-22-2009 03:58 PM

I smoke lots. Weed too. I'm smoking right now actually.

For me it's both. It kills the pain in my back when it rears itself AND gives me a huge boner as it works its magic. I can't help that.

I feel I'll be repeating what other people say if I reply in a full and detailed manner. All I'll say is that my point is not to condone pot smoking, but to suggest that if you're so concerned about it, you should be even more concerned about the other health-destroying products we ingest. After all, the link between pot smoking and brain damage is still being researched and is not as strong a link as the other ones I mentioned. Also, the cost to the public health system of pot-related brain disfunction is microscopic compared to the cost of cancer, obesity, heart disease and diabetes.

Anonyman! 08-23-2009 08:51 PM

Look, even if I fry my brain and turn into Tommy Chong, that's my decision. Don't take away my ability to ruin my life. I enjoy and employ that ability.

Dude, I totally have rebel-cred. I'll show you sometime. I've totally got it.

Leto 08-23-2009 10:37 PM

My rebel-cred is located somewhere betwixt my rectum and my sphincter.

It's finding it that is the true magic.

Dixanadu 08-23-2009 11:41 PM

This is the third thread I've seen this damn rebel-cred.

I have tryied before, and if there is a chance I sometimes light up, but I don't smoke everyday or so. I actually do it when I'm desperate or really dissapoint into something. It helps get through the pain in my opinion.

Josh 08-27-2009 09:56 AM

I don't smoke. I don't plan to anytime soon. I like to breath normally.

shaman 08-27-2009 10:18 AM

You can still draw breath when you smoke ... its after a few years of it resperatory problems start to set in.. :tard:

digidestiny 08-27-2009 11:18 AM

Weed?

Yes weed. Right then.

Pilot 08-29-2009 02:33 PM

On that subject, last night a friend was up visiting from Las Vegas so we got together... I craved a mojito, so off to Carson we went to pick up some mint and rum. My friend made up some syrup on the fly for the drinks and the whole thing was mighty good. What we ended up making was a mojito that was basically mint, 4 shots of dark rum straight and syrup for sweetness.

We then had some pot and watched some tube. The Outback Steakhouse commercial came on which inspired a continuous half hour of laughing and speaking to one another in fake Australian accents. :p Fun fun.

joshkrz 08-29-2009 03:14 PM

I smoke around about 10 a day (the last time I checked was about half a year ago I lost track now.), I usually smoke Marlboro Reds but I also have a bag of Golden Virginia hand rolling tobacco for emergency's.

Weed is rare, because I just don't have the money. I would rather buy cigs than weed because weed is a gamble, your going to have a good time or a really shit time.

An alternative to smoking spliff is to drink spliff, much less harmful, well in theory anyway.

I find that if I'm anxious or unsettled in any way when I use it then the anxiety is just amplified. Plus, it's always better with someone else there just because.

I never smoke bud alone, and yes, if you feel crap it will defiantly make it worse but sometimes you don't notice your that bit anxious, then when you smoke your fucked.

I have only ever had one time when it was really bad but that's probably because I was half drunk half high. Some guy offered me some pills that chill you out, I forgotten the name. I didn't take them though.

Has anyone made themselves faint? Like, bend over and breath really hard then get picked up? So like, you deprive your brain of oxygen? I used to do that.

That's what inhalants do.

My friends and I used to do that in high school. Good times, good times.
