I think OWI has what it takes to put James Cameron's "Avatar" to shame. I just hope that the CGI isn't all the movie has going for it like "Advent Children".

Actually, I think you'll find Oddworld Inhabitants is exactly what we're meant to be discussing in this forum :tard:

Soapy Jackson 07-08-2009 12:58 AM

lawl why didn't you guys see this earlier

I don't think they're Scrabs in that second picture.

They appear to be these. (Meeches, if memeory serves me well.)

moxco 07-08-2009 01:14 AM

It looks like a big squiggle to me.

MeechMunchie 07-08-2009 12:03 PM

They look less like Meeches than they do Scrabs.

Fuzzle Guy 07-08-2009 01:04 PM

This person made one post and started their post with lawl. I think it's a multi.

Leto 07-08-2009 02:16 PM

I call shenanigans.

Those super cows are not used as a food source. They are used as pedigrees in ridiculous competitions.

your talking bullshit (get it?) mate. beef cattle are farmed to have ridiculous amounts of muscle so WE CAN EAT IT. therefore, 'those super cows' are indeed eaten, its just that show cows are not and are usually buried when they die.

and i agree with Max. Scrabs aren't farmed, they are hunted.

:) There possibly are.

Oddsville 07-14-2009 05:45 PM

Great job Max and Xav!! My comps been down so finally getting to a working one and getting these beautiful pics, it's a very nice treat! I don't know if this has already been stated and Im sorry if it has *haven't read through all the pages* but the one picture that looks like Stranger; to me seems as if Abe has been captured and the guy bringing Abe looks as if he could be the same as the guys on horseback *or whatever back they're on*.

hidden 07-17-2009 06:39 AM

Yay! more pictures, I don't care if they were with-held, they brightened my day.
To me, I think Meeches fit more than scrabs, although you know domesticated hogs (and please don't roast me for this, it's just an analogy) will grow tusks and turn feral in the wild. (they certainly cause some problems here in Australia).
Through selective breeding you can get bloodlines to be more docile over a period of time (this applies to bulls as well), although you have to keep weeding out the rouges, so I'm not rulling out scrabs altogether.
Also what if they're a cross?, you can get mules (donkey-horses) and ligers (tiger-lions), so you know....

Xavier 07-17-2009 12:56 PM

Weren't Meeches extinct?

Weren't Meeches extinct?

Isn't the movie meant to be a reboot though? Anything could be changed.

MeechMunchie 07-18-2009 06:23 AM

I think Lorne once said he would like a story where the hero has to save the last of the Meeches, which are still alive in some isolated plateau.

Bullet Magnet 07-18-2009 06:40 AM

Species brought back from extinction, characters back from the grave, shell suits: back in fashion...

I think you're getting confused with the Dear Alf question where Alf talks about a bunch of Meeches being discovered on a lost plateau before being herded away and muncheefied.

Probably. I'm still looking for where I got the info from.

EDIT: No mention of a plateau, but this is where I got it. Paragraph two in 'Production Design'.

moxco 07-18-2009 01:53 PM

Your alein isn't really original. It's based on some deep water thing thats on David Attenborough' Crevasse don't make a joke.

Sekto Springs 07-24-2009 10:33 AM

I agree with Scrabtrapman, they look more like Meeches to me. Or perhaps they're something totally new. Bear in mind there are several Farzadian similarities in the original OW creature designs (ie face-fingers, lack of eyes), so it may just be some new creature harkening to his style. Speaking of Farzad, I think Oddworld could really benefit from his service again if they're actually going to try and tackle the movie industry.

As far as the Stranger/Abe (or unknown Mudokon) pair-up - I immediately got the impression that perhaps this isn't necessarily a retelling of the old stories but a meshing of all Oddworld has created so far into one story. Thats quite presumptious going on only a handfull of drawings though. Looking at this new batch in comparison to the old, it looks like something completely different. In fact, if it wasn't for a very clear picture of a Mudokon next to the Stranger-shaped blob I would have dismissed these as not being Oddworld at all.

I guess I'm gushing though. In a movie production, thousands of drawings of just fleeting ideas are completed and then scrapped in an instant just for brainstorming purposes - and considering the obvious hastiness of these - I think its safe to say these drawings as they are will have little to nothing to do with the final project. :p

Xavier 07-24-2009 11:57 AM

I'd love to see Farzad come back and work for OWI too but I'm afraid he's busy making games for the Iphone now with a few other ex-inhabitants (Paul O'Connor and Chris Ulm)

Honestly I think these guys are wasting their talent

I couldn't agree more. His work for Darkwatch was forgettable (as was the game itself), and I haven't bothered to follow his career since then. He seemed to be getting the most out of his talent while he was working for OWI.

I guess, in the end, everything boils down to money.

I think you mean Stephen Olds, seeing as he designed both Sligs and Paramites.

As for that Stranger/Abe pic, given that there are two figures that have vaguely Stranger-ish silhouettes, it's probable that neither of them are actually Stranger, but that Lorne is going back to his love of Western films in designing the his characters's outfits.

Ah yes, my bad.

As for the riding animals; I really doubt they're scrabs.
Theres a piece of concept art by either Aebischer or Swanland that features Sekto's office. It has the same hasty digi-sketch style as these and it features several portrayals of different creatures on the wall. One of the creatures has a long pointed snout, alot like these. My first thoughts were that it was the head of a scrab, but proportionally to Sekto, that had to be one mutha of a scrab.

In no way am I implying that these are the same animal, but it does point out a familiar pattern in the designs. If Lorne is the one dictating the look of the pieces, its clear has a thing for long beaks :p

Actually the "Art of Darkwatch" book is much better then the game itself, if you love Farzad's art you should definitely check it out.

True, this room is full of creatures that share the design patterns with existing creatures. I wouldn't surprise the mounted creature is actually something new with a long beak, as you said.

STM 08-17-2009 10:02 AM

Well I think it's real nice that they put something out, I'd love ot see another platform abe game or something not on Mudos at all... That'd be cool I prefered the platformer to Munch, Munch was to easy.

Hopefully they'll do something with the money made from citizen siege (if it ever raises it's ugly head)

EDIT: I wondered if it's worth me emailing Farzard for any oddworld information/pictures any1?

Bullet Magnet 08-17-2009 10:50 AM

He doesn't work for them any more, does he?

Wil 08-17-2009 10:50 AM

Farzad hasn't worked for Oddworld Inhabitants for close to a decade, so he wouldn't know anything about what they've done recently or have planned for the future. But he'd probably be flattered to hear from a fan. Most artists are.

He and pretty much everyone else.

STM 08-26-2009 03:49 AM

Grrr! This melding of numbers and words is wrong! It should not be! No wonder the English language died in childbirth!

Giving birth to what?

It's just a joke at old 'hybrid child' plots. With deformed hybrid children in movies the mother always dies.

Wil 08-26-2009 02:23 PM

What deformed hybrid child did the English language give birth to? Even metaphorically. Otherwise your joke makes no sense.

Have you never called things you're fond of your baby, baby?

MeechMunchie 08-27-2009 01:22 AM

The deformed hybrid child is txtspk with numbers. I've never had to explain an analogy this much before.

MA 08-27-2009 02:41 AM

its Max. he's taking you for a stroll through 'Piss-Take Ville'.

he's probably a comedy genius. thing is no one knows when he's serious and when he's not.
