What superpower? Easy, the power to grant any wishes. Then I can just make wishes to myself and do whatever the hell I want, whether that's save the environment or just make myself a rich eternally youthful adonis with a harem.

So... Omnipotence?

What if you wish for your wish to go ungranted?

AlienMagi 05-24-2008 10:54 AM

Hmm I'd love to control the time...

But, why would I do that? That'd like just get rid of all my super powers.

I suppose I could also wish for you to stop being a smart-alec when discussing the different superpowers. ;)

Bullet Magnet 05-25-2008 03:34 AM

No! The source of my power!

Hmm I'd love to control the time...

But time is relative, you can't control something that doesn't truly exist. Time is just the change of everything. You can't reverse time, just not possible; you could change the atoms back to the way they were, but you can't actually reverse time.

Though you could just be saying that you want to be able to control every atom in the universe in particular ways, but just didn't want to say that...

... Yeah I'll go with that.

Personally, I would want to be able to transfer me mass into strings of energy, and back (if you think about, there are a lot of possibilities in this). Not sure how I would control the energy, but as for keeping my mind when it's energy; the mind is just a bunch of electrical signals.

Bullet Magnet 05-25-2008 03:51 AM

Okay, let's not start this whole "time does not exist thing." Please. Also it does.

Munch's Master 05-25-2008 05:36 AM

Yeah, if time didn't exist, wouldn't that like mean, every single second we stop existing and start existing again? Or something.
Or never exist and only think we do? Time has to exist. Measuring time doesn't really exist, that IS relative, but the passage of time has to exist.

Are you a Pratchett fan?

If not go and read Thief of Time and Night Watch now!

AlienMagi 05-25-2008 05:44 AM

Whatever, we shouldn't talk off topic.
If I couldn't have time control then I'd like to have a bag with 10000000000000$ in cash.

arkaznor 05-25-2008 05:49 AM

No, no. You misunderstand me. I didn't use the right words, and thus changed what I meant. Time sort of exists. As Munch's Master said, "the passage of time has to exist"...in some way or form.

All I meant to say is that you can't have something, anything, travel back or forward in time. There are many reason to support this, but I don't really want to list them (especially when that is not the point of this topic). In order to "travel" through time, you would have to go to another dimension, or "set" the entire universe to what it was or is going to be.

So instead of jabbing at me for my whole "time is relative and sort of exists" thing, you should be jabbing at me for how impossible my wanted super power is.

Bullet Magnet 05-25-2008 07:32 AM

For reference, we did this here fairly recently.

abe is now! 05-25-2008 08:18 AM

If I could have any superpower I'd stop this annoying rain that started one month ago and doesn't seem to stop.

Munch's Master 05-25-2008 09:08 AM

Time travel is an eternal yet fun debate. I for one believe that you could only ever travel back in time as an observer, and not truly be able to interfere or even be seen. As for travelling forwards, well, that's easy. You're affecting the future so just set the univrse's future course down a different route, you don't cross out or redraw the old route of history. So in conclusion, I believe forwards time travel is fully plausible, and that you can then go back to the moment you left (but no sooner). As for backwards time travel, I believe that is purely possible as an observation type thing.

Yes. I adore Pratchett. I have read 24 of his books (not neccessarily in order, but I have read them in order by character), and I am currently midway through The Last Continent.
Not read Thief of Time but I've read Night Watch, it is superb even if it is slightly open to debate.

But any way, less time travel and book talk, MOAR SUPA POWAZ!

Bullet Magnet 05-25-2008 04:06 PM

The more you talk about time, the more I want to get involved. I. Must. Not. God. Dammit! *nosebleed*
