I think that it may just be that the bats flocked at the moment you threw the rock. There are a few screens like that where the bats fly around a little as you enter then flock off quickly.

What happens is that once they leave the screen they don't come back. Bats instantly kill you if you touch

Nate 08-02-2006 04:37 AM

So? I already knew that.

Spirrow 08-02-2006 06:30 AM

Yeah, they're supposed to tell you to be patient like I am or
to die trying to get past them. I just wait until they fly away.

Zerox 08-03-2006 04:45 AM

!

Yes, bats seem to have done the same thing on other screens when
I used to play AO. But if you're talking about that cliff screen with the
moon behind it (I think), that was the method of getting past those bats.
I use it the same way all the time when I play AO.

You either go around or wait for the bats to buggar off at that part. I don't think rocks have any influence on bats. You don't need to at all to complete the game 100%. I have, twice, and no bat's chasing flying rocks occurs to me.

What was weird was that, once the rock has reached them, the bats seemed to follow it and flew away.

Is that so? I know that those three bats don't fly off on their own after a while, so this trick will please me greatly if it is true. I will test it.

Just to be pedantic, but to flock means to gather rather than to dissipate.

Nate 08-06-2006 05:11 PM

Gather and fly off together, was what I meant, seeing as they allegedly collect around the rock.

I couldn't get it to work… :(

Nate 08-08-2006 04:19 AM

I still maintain* that it's just a coincidence of timing.

*That may be a tautology. I don't care.

Wil 08-08-2006 09:55 AM

Those three bats don't ever fly off.

skillya_glowi 08-08-2006 05:42 PM

...But when I throw the rock at them, the image of the bats seems to refresh (disappear for a millisecond, then appear again) or blink, and then all three of the bats follow the rock at once. I'll make a video or something I guess, then I could show all you doubtful bastards :D

It works on the secret in the Free-Fire Zone with the mines and the bird portal, just under and to the right of the screen we're talking about, on the way from RuptureFarms, but is much less impressive.

Nate 08-09-2006 03:09 AM

Are we sure we're talking about the same bats? Take a screenshot of the screen and post it here.

Wil 08-09-2006 06:04 AM

That's the screen, but I'm talking about the screen on the way back into RuptureFarms. There are three bats that circulate the tip of the upper level that prevent you from backtracking once you get to screen E2P02C04 via the bird portal. The screen itself is E2P03C01.

skillya_glowi 08-09-2006 04:08 PM

The BBcode seems to be broken...

EDIT: You fixed it...never mind.

Wil 08-14-2006 10:14 AM

Marvellous! I tried the Stockyard Return level on the PS, and this trick does indeed work! Step into the screen from the right, but don't walk any further to the left, so that Abe remains off screen. Remain standing and throw down. More often than not (but not always), the three bats chase after the rock as if it were Abe, allowing Abe to climb down as before.

The Slog has returned to where it was previously, so Abe is free to try and possess the Slig, but I haven't managed that yet. If you want to go and get more rocks, you have to return to the screen with the Slog, then immediately run back on youself. You can't jump over it before it leaps at you.

But quite frankly, I'm not sure it's worth the effort. Still nifty, though. :)

skillya_glowi 08-14-2006 12:42 PM

I noticed the path skip cheat works for AE, but not for AO, although on the website I got it from it was under AO...

Spirrow 08-15-2006 07:15 AM

Yes, they always say the cheats work for AO. I tried the invincibility
code several times. Never works. All I can use is the FMVs, level select,
and the green mines cheats on AO. But it all works fine in AE, so that's good for me.

magic9mushroom 08-15-2006 10:31 PM

Max, that screenshot is worthy of a Darwin Award. I mean, seriously.

EDIT: It's curious that the hand had not yet appeared.

Nate 08-15-2006 11:21 PM

Aside from the fact that Abe, being sterile, is not going to contribute to the gene-pool anyway...

Hee hee, yep. It's one of the oldest screenshots there is. The first time I came across that screen, I emulated that leap, but soon learnt not to. :p

:

EDIT: It's curious that the hand had not yet appeared.

It's a different moon. It also doesn't have the pawprint on it after the Abe's Moon movie.

skillya_glowi 08-16-2006 12:48 PM

Shouldn't this be closed already? Pretty much everything has been discussed here, and then some...

Wil 08-18-2006 03:27 AM

It doesn't need to be closed, it needs for people to stop adding new discussions to it. :p

skillya_glowi 08-18-2006 10:58 AM

True, true...I'm going to stop right here.
