...Then why is Alcar let in and not me?:fuzwink:
P'raps this is a good idea. We should establish a place where only those who prove their worth can get in and all else will not even know of its existence. Or not. |
The poll is now closed. I'll weigh in my opinions on the results later on.
You know, a long, long time ago, perhaps when the TGA crew was still here, the forum kicked around the idea of a place for "elite" members. Ultimately, the notion was dismissed for various reasons. For one, it would end up being more trouble than it's worth when the wheat is separated from the chaff, as different members had/have different opinions on who is worthy of such a forum. Another good argument against it is that an elitist forum just seems... snobby and mean. Other members would end up feeling left out; we would begin to lose forum participation, in all likelihood. Above all, exactly what "mature" conversations could we have in another forum that we couldn't have in OT? Most younger members shy away from the "hardercore" debates. Besides, who wants to be serious all the time? I'm 18. One of the main reasons I still visit OWF is because I can be a completely immature and silly every now and then and make an ass out of myself in front of people from all over the world. That's the beauty of forum-based discussion. :p |

Well, about the hack, besides giving them Custom titles andstar changes, why don't give them stuff that would be kewl? Like privelges to the Mod Forum (considered they don't leak out info ;)).
|
Not the mod forum. Maybe a 1337 forum for unoobs.

So with the results now in, after thinking of what to do, are actions going to be taken or are we just going to 'hearty chuckle' this thread away? |
Super Munch, if I may say so, and much as I love you, you're being a bit of a twat. So stop it. Contribute something other than mere jokes please, it's getting a bit annoying.
Also, the employee lounge is for employees, not for people with massive IQs or "worthy" "elite" members. Nor will there ever be such a place. And I know Hobo will chip in with his "I > you" gimmick, but I emplore him not to, because I'm making a serious point here. SeaRex is right, elitism does nothing but piss people off. I've been to forums where elitism has been taken to the extreme, and most of the people there have just LOST themselves in it. They have all these stupid arguments, "worthy" "respected" members ganging up like a pack of chavs and lynching people who dare to challenge their authoritaw. HOWEVER - many of the forums that I have visited who've had a "serious discussion" area for heady debates about life, the universe, and everything, have done really well with it. And I think we could do with something like that. Mainly because all our serious discussions (or at least most of them) tend to go off topic quickly, because the whole thing isn't taken seriously enough. If we had a place where the rules were much stricter, we could hold serious and lengthy debates in an malicious-argument free way (outlaw flaming/character attacks) without risk of jokers taking it off topic and ruining things for everyone else. |

Fixed. |
Ah, forgive the lateness of my reply. I was away from the computer for the weekend.
Now, as for the implementation of the "winners." I have no opinion either way on "forum events and contests." These don't interest me at all. If someone out there has any bright ideas on events/contests, then by all means, step up to the plate and we'll talk. But as of right now, I really couldn't care less if we had more contests and such. A fan game, on the other hand, is much more appealing to me. However, we would have to have an extremely dedicated and *gasp* skilled group of people for art and programing. No joke. However, if you are interested in spearheading, or just participating in, a project like a fan game (flash, full game build, anything), then just make your voice heard by posting in this thread. You have my full support. I'll be honest. I'm not web-savvy. If someone wants to pursue the OWF Front Page or Shop Hack, then you would be better off collaborating with Alcar. Still, you may want to let everyone know about your interests in this thread. This is your forum, folks. Make it rock some socks off. |
Well towards fan project i can help with organisimisation, story and shit if needed. Bounce ideas off me. But not too hard, you'll mishape my afro

Well, I'd like the serious discussion option. I must admit, I am put off by many off-topic subjects by the fact that manyothers degenerate into silly joking and going off-subject, or spiteful flaming of others for having different viewpoints. If there was a proper debate/discussion board where you could talk about such things without either getting flamed over your opinion (For while disagreement is fine, everyone should respect everyone else's opinion as they are entitled to one) or seeing the intelligent posts cut apart by drabble, I (and I'd imagine many other members too) would certainly be more active in such areas. Sorry if some of that was hard to understand at first, but sometimes when I express my views on certain topics, the sentences get hard to understand due to their length.
As for a forum game, I'm certainly no good when it comes to programming, flash etc. but I'd be happy to offer my ideas and input. I'm sure everyone who was interested in such a project would be able to help in some way. The trouble is, woud it be a fan-made Oddworld game, a different series, or a new/general/crossover game? |
I think I should note that by "fan games" I kind of meant text based stuff like Shrink's Mafia game. It's somewhat RPish but I think we can put up with that.
Forum events would be anything from filming yourself doing something mad to drawing little comic strips. So I'm suprised that you don't like the sound of that SeaRex cause I thought that would appeal to you. We could have all sorts of competitions and things... and it would be something fun for us all to take part in. We just need to think creatively about what kind of things we could do. |

As for text-based RPG games, like Shrink's Mafia game, I think we need to get T-Nex in here. I have no information on future expansions of RPGs. Still, you guys kick around some ideas. I might make individual threads where we can discuss the individual topics (fan games, shop hack, etc) tomorrow; that might make things a little easier. :
Anywho, in summation, get some ideas brewing and I'll make a couple stickies tomorrow. |
I'd think that with the forum events, Dino's suggestions where good. Contests could be an idea, the only danger would be that either there'd be rigging by certain mods, or the people who didn't win would feel picked on/ left out/ unliked/ whatever. But if we could do it without people whining about not winning, here's some ideas:
Bring back the Annual Forum Awards Bring back the Oddlympics Have fan-based contests, such as Most popular/liked/favourite FanFiction Oddworld or Non-Oddworld (I avoid saying 'Best' because again ,those who don't win ,may be disheartened) and Favourite/tactful way of saying 'best' Fanart. That's it for contest ideas. As for people with the skill to do a fan game, I knew a coupla guys who could do that, indeed we were planning and designing a fangame on another forum before it got ended by hacking. So I could try and regain contact with them, and bring them here for the game (Although this is where a non-Oddworld-only fangame would be better, as they aren't particularly into Oddworld). |
