:

where do all these new names like Grub Hunter or Oddfather come from? I must have missed something

They're just pen-names we made up so we know what to refer to them as. Lorne says something about "A poacher Grub" during the X-factor special and eventually we just got used to calling him Grub Hunter.

Nate 03-15-2004 01:12 PM

thanks for the explanation.

PS I don't want to be a wet blanket but I think that people should avoid saying something like "I think these two species are at war" or "it would be good if Stranger had a special power where he could levitate cane toads and squirt their poisonous mucus at enemies" cos:

a) very vague guesses never come true
b) if you suggest an idea that Lorne & co had already come up with they may hesitate to add it to the game in case you try and sue them for Intellectual Property (don't laugh, it has happened)
c) You will put the Stranger game into your Xbox expecting to see these things and only get disappointed when they don't come up (even though there was never any likelyhood that they would)

I know it is a stupid thing to get upset about but it really irritates me when people spout theories based on nothing at all

We're basing our theories on a lot of things, and we can make all the predictions we want.

A. Some of the vaguest guesses can be close to the truth
B. WTF!?
C. All games have their dissapointments and any true gamer knows that, so it's pointless to point that out.

oddguy 03-15-2004 02:13 PM

We're just discussing, I see nothing wrong with that. It may bug you, but you can't dictate what we should and shouldn't say. It's not your place my friend.

By the by, which OWF member sued OWI? I heard it happened, but never heard who made the accusation. Curious...I am.

Mac the Janitor 03-15-2004 02:23 PM

As far as I know, it wasn't an actual OWF member, merely an Oddworld fan.

oddguy 03-15-2004 02:25 PM

Yeah, if it would've been an OWF member, we all would've ran out of our houses, track the bastard down and rip him to pieces by digging toothpics into his flesh...really.

Shell Man 03-15-2004 09:51 PM

...

I doubt very much I'll be dissapointed by this game.

Alcar 03-16-2004 12:31 AM

However,

If I remember correctly, either Lorne or Alf dismissed the rumour that Oddworld was sued over the inclusion of emotions in Mudokons.

Alcar...

Xavier 03-16-2004 06:24 AM

It was Alf...
but the guy was very large he said something like, "give the some more emotions to make them look alive"
and then with the emotions in AE he tried to claim it was his idea

Sekto Springs 03-16-2004 06:53 AM

That's just sad. Lorne and his crew don't need to copy other people's ideas, they have a highly imaginative and waged staff for that.

Xavier 03-16-2004 07:16 AM

I totally agree with you.
But I don't think OWI is the only game studio which have that kind of problems.
What is realy sad are those assholes who claim it's their idea and try to steal money from those game studios

Whoa! I've never seen you swear before! You must be steaming!

Anyway, that's what I'm saying. I'm saying it sounds stupid that OWI would be sued for copying ideas when they have so many good ideas that they don't need to copy others (and they wouldn't).

Jacob 03-16-2004 08:32 AM

That's why they don't read peoples fics. Even though i think they do...secretly.

Sekto Springs 03-16-2004 08:36 AM

Why would they view them secretly? Why I'd be honored if OWI used one of my Fic ideas, I would never sue them. But it would be a little asinine of them if they took an idea without acknowledging the writer first.

GrigtheSlig 03-16-2004 09:36 AM

Alf's Assistant is replying! He will give us all the answers! :D

EDIT: :crying: Who's Online said he was replying to this thread...But he's gone now...

*Cries more*

It was a joke, silly billy. :p

AA does that a lot. I've seen him on "Who's Online" and he'll be replying to a thread, but he then remembers that this would be a form of communication, so he leaves in fear. Also, with his short term memory problem, this happens a lot. Poor guy.

-oddguy :p

Nate 03-16-2004 11:20 AM

Wow, I never thought my little comment would cause so much controversy.

Sorry for anyone who got insulted about my complaint, I was just giving a short whinge to get it out of my system.

I wasn't specifically talking about Oddworld when I mentioned the whole suing thing. They aren't the only ones that that has happened to. For instance Terry Pratchett (the author) stopped visiting the forums about his books because people kept on discussing ideas for the future and he was worried about legal action (just to be careful; not because it had happened)

Were not talking about what you said, there apparently was someone who did some sueing.

lol, you are so cruel with AA... anyway it's sad the inhabitants don't post more often on the forums.
I guess they don't have Lorne's permission to do it :fuzconf:

Esus 03-16-2004 11:43 AM

Well, I'm sure they dont need Lornes permission to post. They could even come under a secret identity. I'm sure the only thing they haven't got permission to do is to give information about the studios.

Awww, he knows I'm joking.:p I just wish he'd post as often as he visited the forums. I see him here a lot...just hovering about though.

It's like, we have an Oddworld-Inhabitant in our midst, so close, yet so far. We have all come together on this forum because of the company this guy works for. This guy has tons of knowledge as far as we know and all the news we received from him is that we aint getting any news! Not like I want the guy to spill any vital info, I'd just like to ask him Q's about OWI as a company and such. Ya know what I mean?

It's like shoving a steak in front of a starving man, but binding him in chains so he can't eat it.

AA...what a monster! I was so excited when I saw him on, I didn't know he "hovered" around the forums all the time...

I wonder if he can post in Off Topic?

Xavier 03-17-2004 08:08 AM

Oddworld Inhabitants nearly never go to other forums then the General Discussion...
At least that's what I observed

Esus 03-17-2004 08:20 AM

unless they visit other forums un-logged in. Therefore appearing as guests.

Xavier 03-17-2004 08:55 AM

seems far-streched...
but it could be

oddguy 03-17-2004 09:07 AM

Why would the OWI need to go to Off-Topic? I don't think they come over here for leisure time like us. I think they visit GD to see what we're thinking about OW and report to Lorne Lanning...or something to that effect. It seems like a job thing. Also, they said they were scouting out a new FOM.

-=[oddguy

Xavier 03-17-2004 09:10 AM

I think that too Oddguy...
it's part of their job, and there is nothing intresting in OT for them

GrigtheSlig 03-17-2004 10:06 AM

I know, but AA should go to OT to get to know the fans and see what they like! Take an interest...

Nate 03-17-2004 11:19 AM

No offense, but I think they've got better things to do with their time
