I had a crazy dream that a Soulstorm trailer was released that showed top down squad based gameplay....
That "it's a new game" comment is haunting me! Alex please! Can we at least get some reassurance that Soulstorm will be a side scrolling puzzle platformer?? |
:
Tbh if an Oddworld themed moba ever saw the light of day I would weep. Old man battle slig in a tank like gyro from dota. Natives vs Industry. Man I could go on ive had so many ideas for it.. :lick: /endfanficshit |

I actually wouldn't mind that. |
The beauty of the series is that nearly every type of game can nicely match with the universe.
RPG? Sure why not, there are a lot of Mudokon types, Fuzzles, maybe even trained Scrabs/Paramites. The Industrialists could have Glukkons, many types of Sligs, Vykkers, Greeters. For heroes there could be Abe, Munch, Stranger, for the Big Bads Molluck, the Brewmaster, the three Glukkon executives. MOBA? See above. FPS? There is already one, but imagine a multiplayer one. The two factions against eachother. Visual novel? The story is complex enough, with interesting characters to be one. Incremental game? Why not? You could be with the Magog Cartel producing foods or something like that and buying shoddy buildings and employing immoral tactics to boost production. Platformer? Hmm well... this is the one, I couldn't believe the universe would fit. It just seems impossible and unfitting. /s |

YOU're real, but almost two decades old by now.
I mean, that applies to most of us here |

http://i1.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/...72/493/c8d.png All things considered I suppose I should say that I'm in love with how they're handling Soulstorm as a retooling of Exoddus. It's a very unique way to remake a game and Soulstorm will hopefully be able to stand out with its own identity as a result. They don't need to remake Exoddus beat by beat, because Exoddus already exists. That being said though, I think there'd be a hole in my heart if Necrum and the Mudomo & Mudanchee Vaults got the axe, mainly because I absolutely adore the visuals of these places. http://i.imgur.com/JzGXGi6.png http://i.imgur.com/JQ2gFO7.png |
I liked Necrum but i felt like Mudanchee/Mudomo were just Paramonia/Scrabania II. Not even that, Mudomo was just purple Mudanchee or vice versa or whatever.

And as far as Mudomo and Mudunchee perhaps they Will be elaborated to stand out as their own unique places, I hope so. I personally loved and thought they were cool. (Mudomo fo' life) |
Pretty much everything listed in the OP.
NnT's atmosphere seems really bad compared to that of the original game and I believe it's because of the random idle chatter that was added without a clear reason. I'm also glad I'm not the only one that thought the in-game animations from NnT sucked ass, because there doesn't seem to be a real transition between them, and instead bend one over another and are sped up hoping no one will notice. Not a fan of the out of place colored light and bloom either because it ruined the dark scenes. So did the glowing eyes. The sound was also bad. Important sounds always getting muffled by other ambient sfx and the music itself. I'm also hoping with all my heart that the old visor sligs will make a return. I hate the new design ever since the cutscenes from exoddus. The heartless and menacing sligs from oddysee would fit better with the dark theme soulstorm has. |
So it seems Soulstorm will release in 2018, yes?
On one hand i was hoping for late this year...-_- On the other hand...it must be getting pretty good °u° |
They are aiming for second half of 2017 and last we heard they were ahead of schedule.

Fix the glitches. New 'n' Tasty had quiet a few. Such as falling through the floor or telwporting to a well when I tried to mount Elum. There were also times where sound effects and voices would turn off. And the deaths loom really awkward like the recently deceased resembled puppets without any strings pulled with some even going through the floor.

No meat grinders moving at a crazy speed, please. It made my head and eyes ache. Oddworld puzzles were always based on gamer's gumption, accuracy and attentiveness: If you understand how to do it, you will succeed. No random and lack of logic, this was very good puzzle game. But not everything so brilliant in NnT.
Same for mines. Before, I count seconds to calculate how they flash, but in this case it was not so easy and too much randomness. Life indicator and checkpoints are not necessary, but ability to save anywhere is good. Also I want more of my favorite alien psychedelic atmosphere. Let it be dark, ODD and a little creepy, like in AO and OE. Mixture of fear of powerful enemies, blood, violent death of character you protect, and beautiful epicness of another world nature. |

This video sums up quite well a lot of the changes that should be made (although he is very harsh and I don't agree with everything he says, I didn't mind the ads on the boards for one). The main things are the bloom lighting, animations, atmosphere and the sound mixing at times, especially during certain cutscenes. One other thing I would personally say is a lot of the areas from the old games didn't transfer well to the New n Tasty style camera and I would say that the best part of NnT gameplay-wise was definitely Alf's Escape. That whole section felt like it was built with the new camera mode in mind and thus it seemed to fit the new game more than a lot of the revisted areas. So yeah in Soulstorm make sure the areas are built to work with the new camera system. I imagine going through this thread it might seem like people weren't too keen on the game but I for one want to say (and I'm sure most here will agree) that NnT was still brilliant, but it's better for us to be honest about the bits we weren't too fond of so that Soulstorm will be a better game all round! |
I would also like to see the game be much darker (which they're delivering in the ARG pictures) and glitch-free.

Slaves of consumerism
I think this idea should be developed. The problem is in the captives acquescing to slavery and not challenging the exploiters.
What will come in place of the Soulstorm brewery if it is destroyed, where will the escapees go and how will they survive? Can Soulstorm be re-engineered for the benefit of its employees, environment? |
