If that's actually Molluck then the timeline is off. Ed supposedly just snapped these pictures ;) The lack of a cigar also makes me think this isn't him (or intended to be him, it might just be a placeholder). Either way, I think we're getting a bit carried away with speculation now.

Ed said he could get pictures. That doesn't necesserially mean he took them. It could be surveillance footage?

that makes a lot of sense for this most recent image. That glukkon seems to be looking right in the camera's direction, and I don't think he'd be alright with a slave snapping his photo

PenguinX45654 01-26-2017 10:37 AM

The more I look at that glukkon, it looks like the style from the original Exoddus game rather than the style shown in New 'n' Tasty.

Hmmm... anyway that's the last time I'll mention it, sorry! Just gotta wait for OWI's next move. Gotta love the hype for this!

Kalhiki 01-26-2017 01:22 PM

Wow. That is one beautiful picture. One thing's for sure, this game is going to look amazing.

So aside from the image reveal, what'd I miss?

Scrabaniac 01-26-2017 02:34 PM

I agree with everyone that says the Glukkon looks like Molluck. If this turns out to be true, then I'd place bets on this being a "backstory" cutscene.. Probably showing the beginning of the Mudokon enslavement, or giving a history lesson about how they got there. I'm not sure, but it would be awesome!

Vlam 01-26-2017 03:06 PM

Or maybe it isn't a flashback. After all, Molluck isn't dead at the end of AO/NnT.

That would change the entire story as we know it. I'm all for it.

Damn... Sorry for getting a little off-topic, but i'm getting so exited... i think i may do a Human Glukkon for the Comic Con here in brazil!
=) i know a great Cigar place!
But i have something to add in-topic, We don't know if it is a flashback or not (i don't think so) i think a Mudd (Ed maybe) took a secret picture (don't know how) or stole from a Slig..
What i do think is that... This is before the events in Exoddus, possibly even Oddysee, i think this game will explain much more than we believe.

I'm aware that's silly speculation but Molluck could have been demoted (before been judged) after the events of NnT. Moreover, I always thought it was a shame that he didn't appear in AE (given the fact he was meant to in MO).

Whenever people wonder about the capability of Unity, and especially with the Oddworld franchise, I tend to point them towards this as an example of the engine's capabilities.

It's much less about the engine itself and more about what the team behind it are able to do with it. And from what we've seen the team behind Soulstorm seem more than capable.

We haven't seen actual footage of the game so far. Wait and see.

This is more of a comment towards people who seem to take New N Tasty as a standard for what the Oddworld franchise is capable of within the bounds of the Unity engine.

I don't disagree yet these people seem reasonable. I mean, some ex-employees of JAW (like Matt Glanville) are now working on Soulstorm. Like I said: wait and see.

Now that the fixed up image has been released, does anyone want to weigh in on whether or not the Mudokon in the middle is lacking a few fingernails?

This image has obviously had some post processing but it is a screen pulled directly from Unity. I won't say more than that... and a cheeky "wait and see"
;)

Edit: and again, I apologise for the double post. Xavier, kick me out, man...

Dude, it's almost like you don't even want to learn. :p

Just one quick note, this image is actually the result of some of the other teams currently working with us on Soulstorm - Cyrus McWilliams, formerly of Blur, and Fat Kraken Studios in England which is a group of key personnel that worked on New 'n' Tasty too.

Ooooh I love this kind of info I love, thanks for sharing. I'll make sure to check out their other work. :D
Also looks like Brett left JAW and is now working for Fat Kraken? :fuzzle:
Is there anyone left at JAW besides Stew?

Also wooo! Look at that, double quoting without double posting

Looks like they've been filed down, probably to stop them from digging or being able to hurt Sligs/themselves

That's really sad if true - especially considering they could kill themselves in AE with their nails :fuzsad:

I'm really excited that this could be a flashback scene, as Shade_Meadows mentioned. Filling in some backstory on how the whole slave situation came to be - or perhaps the rise of Molluck as a foreshadowing to his demise at the end of the game - would add so much depth and be so much more captivating.
This is going to be a fantastic story and a fantastic game. I can't wait!

Jaster 01-27-2017 08:55 AM

What if these are the mudokons who go with Abe after the three weirdos' allucination to Necrum, and are captured after separating from Abe? It's a re-imagination of AE, so this could be a possibility, just theorizing, because they look like new Mudokons being enslaved.

Or just mudokons from the Necrum Mines.

Also, thank you very much for the image OWI, it's really awesome, that feeling I had with the first two games on PS1 has come again, that Glukkon's look, creepy... I'm just waiting to play this game along my brother like in old times :).

...this kind of makes for an interesting revelation in Glukkon behavior because the Glukkons are not the types to supervise slaves themselves. They have Sligs for that. And if the shoulder pad length is still a status indicator, this guy isn't a low ranked Glukkon either.

There's a decent chance that one way or another this is actually Mullock, either because he survived and now he's back or this is an image from the past as others have theorized. His face doesn't look like Phleg or Aslik, and ordinarily I would expect Drippik to be wearing more medals - plus his forehead is supposed to be a bit more complex than that. Still, like you said it could be an entirely new gluk.

But more importantly, whoever he is, I agree it's definitely odd to see a Glukkon supervise his own slaves. Honestly, when I saw this, I imagined something really top-secret obviously because of how cryptic this whole marketing stunt is. So this leads me to believe that seeing him there is a direct indicator of just how big of a deal this operation here is - a possibly illegal one, too, if we're gonna go with all this secrecy. Like maybe wherever this is, that gluk doesn't have the legal rights to the land this operation is happening on?

Since Soulstorm is gonna be a remake of Exodus, I can only image that the bags they're carrying are bones rolled up in bags - though that somewhat retcons how the original means of keeping the secret was stitching their eyes shut. Maybe these guys are a third party to the actual diggers and they only move the bags, never being allowed to open them?

Also... Back on the subject of the mudokon's eye, I honestly think that's more of a computer screen of some sort than a door. If you look closely, you can see a small light in the center of that black spot, which leads me to believe the black bar is actually a figure of some kind overshadowed by a light behind him. Maybe this is a new version of the Greeter security bot, or some other kind of machine? I can't help but think of the sentries from Portal.

Yeah, looks like you're right! I was sort of close though. Guess I need to look a bit harder.

It still looks that way to me. Just bashing themselves in the head.

I saw that too as I remember Abe sometimes being depicted with pointed nails lead me to believe that mudokon naturally this way. Also if you look reeeally close at BB's left paw, you can see a teeny tiny little pinkie nail.

Sounds like a fart to me. So Abe can still do something with them, yay!

Xavier 01-30-2017 02:49 AM

I've been thinking about those codes on the Mudokon chests and it seems to me that using tattooed binary code as identification technique is completely sub-optimal.

With six binary characters you can encode 64 (= 2^6) different combinations while with normal decimal values you can have 1000000 different combinations (both including 000000). This means that to obtain the same amount of different combinations they could have easily used only two decimal numbers.

Of course it could be that the Glukkons are well aware of this and simply like to have the chest tattoo to be as intrusive and as painful as possible.

I thought it was molluck as well but molluck wasnt the Big shot Brew Master was the Big Boss so was Brew master like a apprentice to molluck or did he Take over this is what my theory is since the pic has been revealed
