Ohhh...but even in the artworks y'know? Well hey one of little mysteries solved...

Imagine that face getting zapped in a bad ending ooou

As Abe gets more in touch with his native side, he grow out his feathers more. I like it.
|
the eye and head size dont sit quite right with me but i could get used to it
|
Yeah, his head definitely got a bit smaller and pointer in the new version, but it could just be the angle. It actually looks a lot closer to some of the very first concept art pieces. Also note how he slowly goes from green to purple over the years. Guy's gonna look like a blueberry by the time Soulstorm comes out.
Personally, I like the MO version of Abe best, design-wise. |
FennecFyre, don't you know nothing about MO can be good? Rookie mistake.
My favourite Abe was Stranger's Wrath Abe. Tbh I'm gonna say AO is my fav abe...but actually he looks coolest in the concept art |
The gameplay was eh, but the cutscenes were good quality. Fight me.
|
i'm with fennec here on both accounts, MO abe's colours especially always looked really nice to me.

Is the Exoddus mechanic of muds changing colour depending on their emotions actually considered canon? Maybe that can explain Abe's growing purple hue, as he gets increasingly tired and cynical :p
For me the biggest change in the new Abe is the 'nose' section being smoother, i.e. less of a heavy crease in his skin. Whilst I do think he looks more natural, like the skin is properly formed around his skull which has a much more defined shape, he seems to have lost some character. Colouring, especially lighter and darker areas, could make things look very different really. |

Edit: found something to cite with this :P http://oddworldlibrary.net/toe/FAQ#W...kons_are_green :

Well I can't wait to see how OWI colors Abe in this time 'round. Will it stick closer with the new n tasty or more true to the older color schemes, maybe a slight bit or much more different than that? Any thoughts until a colored version is posted on their media?
(Though I'd be happy with a front facing Abe render at least before the year is up) |

That's something the others could learn though. Presumably other muds could become abe's colour then, through time. Would be funny if they threw a twist in the quintology, that Abe isnt the prophecised one after all. Turns out, it's Alf, who grew a lot more considerate after being rescued :goof: |

The messiah is only going to lead his people to one place: Total and utter decimation. His maudlin skin tone is a prescient allegory; not only reflective of the past and present, but the future also. Lorne has always said the ending will be a tragedy. |
