Ohhh...but even in the artworks y'know? Well hey one of little mysteries solved...

Gunnr 05-23-2016 05:25 PM

Imagine that face getting zapped in a bad ending ooou

Fatherbrain30 05-24-2016 10:50 AM

As Abe gets more in touch with his native side, he grow out his feathers more. I like it.

Gunnr 06-02-2016 07:59 PM

Made a little collage of a few of Abe's faces over the years. Check out the differences/similarities. (:

I picked pictures that were in a similar angle as the Soulstorm reveal.

(One of these pics I know is a sculpture but I put it there since it exsisted before the SS Abe and looks closest his new face)

the eye and head size dont sit quite right with me but i could get used to it

FennecFyre 06-08-2016 09:48 AM

Yeah, his head definitely got a bit smaller and pointer in the new version, but it could just be the angle. It actually looks a lot closer to some of the very first concept art pieces. Also note how he slowly goes from green to purple over the years. Guy's gonna look like a blueberry by the time Soulstorm comes out.

Personally, I like the MO version of Abe best, design-wise.

STM 06-08-2016 10:15 AM

FennecFyre, don't you know nothing about MO can be good? Rookie mistake.

My favourite Abe was Stranger's Wrath Abe.

Tbh I'm gonna say AO is my fav abe...but actually he looks coolest in the concept art

FennecFyre 06-08-2016 11:49 AM

The gameplay was eh, but the cutscenes were good quality. Fight me.

Tired Glutton 06-08-2016 09:17 PM

i'm with fennec here on both accounts, MO abe's colours especially always looked really nice to me.

Is the Exoddus mechanic of muds changing colour depending on their emotions actually considered canon? Maybe that can explain Abe's growing purple hue, as he gets increasingly tired and cynical :p

For me the biggest change in the new Abe is the 'nose' section being smoother, i.e. less of a heavy crease in his skin. Whilst I do think he looks more natural, like the skin is properly formed around his skull which has a much more defined shape, he seems to have lost some character.

Colouring, especially lighter and darker areas, could make things look very different really.

Pretty much, although Abe was said to have the skin color he has because he is believed to be the Messiah and the Mudokon savior - there's also an instance where it's been said he may have been born with the hue on his skin reflecting the spirits' (or something) sadness over the Mudokons being enslaved.

Edit: found something to cite with this :P

:

Why is Abe blue‐skinned when most Mudokons are green?

Ancient Mudokon prophecy tells of a Mudokon with blue skin who will save his people form slavery and use as a natural resource.28, 29 Abe’s skin colouration fulfils this prophecy, but how it’s explained more scientifically is not certain. Mudokons are chamæleonic in that their skin changes to reflect their mood. Sad Mudokons appear blue, and even though Abe can be happy, underneath he is depressed by the history and potential fate of his kind.30

Alf teases that it might have something to do with a wager the Mudokons had with Abe when they worked at RuptureFarms, losing a bet that Abe couldn’t hold a mouthful of Paramite Juice for ten minutes without swallowing.31:20 He has also joked that the difference may be down to diet.32:16

It does also state that Mudokons change skin tone depending on their mood, I never really personally liked that though except for the whole deal with Abe being depressed with the fate of his kind

Gunnr 06-10-2016 01:08 PM

Well I can't wait to see how OWI colors Abe in this time 'round. Will it stick closer with the new n tasty or more true to the older color schemes, maybe a slight bit or much more different than that? Any thoughts until a colored version is posted on their media?

(Though I'd be happy with a front facing Abe render at least before the year is up)

Interesting, thanks! So I guess the typical slave muds all being the same colour could be attributed to their apathy, whereas Abe is more naturally empathetic.

That's something the others could learn though. Presumably other muds could become abe's colour then, through time. Would be funny if they threw a twist in the quintology, that Abe isnt the prophecised one after all. Turns out, it's Alf, who grew a lot more considerate after being rescued :goof:

If Frank Herbert has taught me anything, it's that when you put someone up on a pedestal, all you do is set them up to fall.

The messiah is only going to lead his people to one place: Total and utter decimation. His maudlin skin tone is a prescient allegory; not only reflective of the past and present, but the future also.

Lorne has always said the ending will be a tragedy.
