Who drinks sparkling water?

One time someone left vodka with gold flakes in it at my house.

Slog Bait 03-21-2016 05:26 PM

I fucking love sparkling water fuck u guys

Nepsotic 03-21-2016 05:40 PM

That's because your regular water tastes like piss.

EVP_Glukkon 03-21-2016 07:03 PM

My wife used to drink a lot of the sparkly stuff, I can't stand it though lol reminds me of the time I drank soda water as a kid not fully understanding what it was hahah

Mac Sirloin 03-21-2016 08:20 PM

My tapwater is safe, but I use a britta filter jug to keep it cool in the fridge.

I've taken to drinking soda water instead of 100% of non-alcoholic sugary carbonated beverages but I need to cut down since I think I consume an awful lot of sodium that way.

I do. I buy like 6 liters every week, keep it in the fridge and mix it with lemonade syrup. Insta not-so-bad-for-you-as-super-sugary-soft-drinks-soft-drink. Very nom and a nice variation on drinking tap water all day.

Vlam 03-22-2016 01:52 AM

By the way, Havoc, I discovered, in Amsterdam, that Heineken was their local beer. Do you really drink it?

Havoc 03-22-2016 03:34 AM

Heineken is a Dutch beer brand but I don't drink alcohol at all.

Beware that soda water is typically somewhat acidic and is half the reason the "soft drink is bad for your teeth" wisdom exists. Although it's certainly preferable to drinking Coke or something equally sugary.

Nepsotic 03-22-2016 06:20 AM

Soft drinks are nowhere near as bad for your teeth as people think, maybe they would be if you gurgled it around in your mouth for a while but you don't. Crisps are much worse because the salt sticks around for ages. Much like this forum.

STM 03-22-2016 10:09 AM

Yes but salt is a disinfectant you PLEB. I DON'T EAT ANYTHING OR DRINK ANYTHING BECAUSE FUCK GETTING ILL EVER.

Nepsotic 03-22-2016 10:57 AM

Yes but salt is also fucking bad for you teeth you spud.

EVP_Glukkon 03-22-2016 11:51 AM

Doesn't this place have polls? We could have one for Sparkly, bottle or tap water and see the results.

Nepsotic 03-22-2016 11:57 AM

You must be a genius, because I could not think of a less interesting topic if I tried.

Alf Shall Rise 03-22-2016 01:05 PM

Which brand?

Varrok 03-22-2016 01:47 PM

I think each country has its own brands

Are you sure? I swear the Romans brushed their teeth with salt, as do people in Third World Countries in lieu of toothpaste? For real yo.

Nepsotic 03-22-2016 02:39 PM

It's mainly the fact that it goes hand-in-hand with carbs to fuck your teeth up.

I have a better idea: who are the best fans of Oddworld? Australians, Americans or Europeans? Discuss.

Nepsotic 03-22-2016 03:10 PM

I'm from Saudi Arabia.

Varrok 03-22-2016 03:12 PM

Asians.

Vlam 03-22-2016 03:56 PM

I feel empty without Slog Bait and Scrabaniac.

Nepsotic 03-22-2016 04:00 PM

Your obsession with Slog is really quite strange.

Vlam 03-22-2016 04:02 PM

I don't care about his body.

Nepsotic 03-22-2016 04:05 PM

Slog Bait would rather not interact with you at this present moment.

Nate 03-22-2016 09:28 PM

Nepsotic already made the point I was planning on making, but it was buried in the middle of a longer post. I'm going to reiterate it to really bring it to Havoc's attention.

Literally everything you put in your mouth is toxic. Even that wonderful pure H2O you love so much. Everything depends on doses. So just saying that Flouride is toxic and therefore it's bad is a ridiculous argument to make.

E: Here's an image for (dis)clarity. The cloudiness does settle after some time, this was immediately from the tap

Does it settle at the bottom? Is there residue? Because to me that looks like air bubbles rather than pollution. That makes extra sense given you said it varies based on what floor you're on.

I'm gonna turn that around. Just because "everything is toxic in some quantity" doesn't mean it should be fine to just add dangerous chemicals to the water supply. And this isn't a case of "oh you'd have to drink a gazillion liters of water to get a lethal dose". No, it doesn't take all that much and in combination with other fluoride sources one might ingest, a lethal dose isn't entirely unfeasible.

But that wasn't even my core point. My point was that the government should not be the one deciding to purposefully add some chemical to the water supply for no other reason than "yeah but it's good for your teeth!". That's ridiculous and especially ironic in the US where you normally can't even see a doctor unless you have enough credit.

The reasoning to add this stuff to the water is based on some 80 year old discovery about fluoride being good for your teeth. And like many other things in the US, while the world moved on, the US clings to its old ways of doing things like a bad case of OCD.

As for chlorine, that stuff is specifically put in there to KILL stuff. And while it may not kill you, it's definitely not good for you either. And if the water comes from a natural and flowing source like a river, the water is already clean enough that simple UV light and ozone gas will disinfect it perfectly fine.

The biggest reason that the US in particular still cleans their water this way is again, because they're stuck in old ways and simply refuse to update old systems. Water towers on top of buildings, for example, are still used today and are some of the worst sources of bacterial contamination. They could easily be replaced by a pressure pump at the base of the building and eliminate the tower completely. Water pipes that haven't been replaced in 50 years is another good reason for chlorine. It's a cheap, easy and lazy stop gap solution for a problem that wouldn't exist if the pipe and pump network would be up to modern standards.

Nate 03-23-2016 06:52 PM

Almost every Western country still has fluoride and chlorine in their water. Just bcause your one has changed its policies doesn't give you the ability to say that the world has moved on.

Yes, the original papers on fluoride was a long time ago, but you're acting like science rests on its laurels. Five minutes on Google Scholar gave me plenty of recent papers on the positive effect of fluoride on teeth. Also plenty of discussion on its potential side effects and safe levels. As far as I can tell (and obviously this isn't my area of expertise), the expert consensus is that the current levels are safe. Who are you to disagree?

The government is exactly the right organisation to be deciding these things. The government passes laws on all sorts of things related to public health. Are you saying that we should stop all regulations on safe levels of lead in water supply, active ingredient consistency in producing medications, and what you're allowed and not allowed to do while driving on the road?

EVP_Glukkon 03-24-2016 05:09 AM

All right, speaking about brands I have consumed the following:

1. Mount Franklin
Score: 3/5
Owned by Coca-Cola Amatil, Mount Franklin is available in most shops, milkbars, fish and chip stores etc. It tastes like spring water that went through your kitchen tap with a filter.

2. Aquafina
Score: 4/5
A PepsiCo product I came across during my times in Vietnam, it tastes better than Mount Franklin because it doesn't have the kitchen tap filter after taste Mount Franklin does.
