The problem with the Steef: it looks "static".

FennecFyre 04-17-2016 04:36 PM

One day I'll be able to draw action poses well. Today isn't that day.

Nepsotic 04-17-2016 10:14 PM

Yeah I can't stand those still drawings.

Varrok 04-18-2016 01:41 AM

Yeah, I really like the poses of the characters except Stranger. Stranger himself looks a bit off

Manco 04-18-2016 12:14 PM

What you’re missing from those drawings is a sense of motion and weight. You communicate this by creating a flow in your figures’ poses – the technique is often referred to as a ‘line of action’.

FennecFyre 04-18-2016 02:21 PM

You're all right, Stranger came out looking a bit stiff. I was using the original meme image as a reference, but I definitely could have exaggerated it a bit more.

Thanks for the tip, Manco!

Varrok 04-18-2016 02:23 PM

What's the original meme behind this?

FennecFyre 04-18-2016 02:26 PM

I thought it was funny.

Varrok 04-18-2016 02:45 PM

I think it would benefit your artwork, if you redrew just the Stranger's left arm. It's not exactly like it is on the photo, where it works with the curve rather than against it.

I mean this:

http://i.imgur.com/v8K8aGH.png

That arm seems to have bolder lines, I'm guessing you did notice something was off about it, right? :)

FennecFyre 04-18-2016 02:56 PM

That arm actually was giving me quite a bit of trouble, as a matter of fact. I think I put the outlaw's ankle too far away from Stranger's head (compare it with the original picture), so I had to stretch his arm out and mangle his wrist a bit to make up for it. The bolder lines were an attempt to help the arm stand out from the body behind it.

I don't know if I'll have time to redraw this any time soon, but thank you for the advice, and I'll pay more attention to action lines next time!

STM 04-20-2016 06:42 AM

Next time just draw a decapitated steef. No arms; no problem.

Nepsotic 04-20-2016 06:47 AM

Do you mean amputated

Varrok 04-20-2016 06:56 AM

Maybe he means just drawing the head.

Vlam 04-20-2016 07:10 AM

The head should be more tilted back.

The first of several stupid fanspecies.

The slox is cousin to the sleg and slog, though smaller in size than both. It is a nocturnal scavenger, subsisting off anything it can find, and compensates for a lack of brute strength and bite power with speed and agility. Like slogs, they lack optic organs, but have well-developed senses of smell and hearing, as well as primitive heat receptors along their jaws. Sloxes are generally solitary, and usually not regarded as a threat unless one is injured, drunk, or both, but in the rare occasions they band together, they can become dangerously clever pack hunters.

Sloxes are commonly found in the Mongo Valley, where they frequently hunt creatures such as chippunks, fuzzles, and thudslugs, and raid the garbage dumps of settlers and outlaws alike.

Guineapiglet 04-30-2016 04:29 PM

Cool stuff! :)
I see there are a lot of critics in this forum.
One simple tip I can give is to mirror your image every so often. It's a wonder how quickly your eye gets used to an image and you don't notice things.

Gunnr 05-01-2016 03:31 PM

Fennec's stuff was awesome, luv the Stranger and lady steef! And I too want that mug. Aside from the aruing and criticism I
Learned a lot in this forum, I free hand some and also have trouble with smooth and natural movement

FennecFyre 05-13-2016 10:07 PM

Thanks, Guinea and Gunnr!

Need opinions/feedback real quick. Does this look like Stranger at all to you guys? I wanted to bring out his face markings a bit while keeping to his original color scheme, but I'm not sure if I succeeded. Official art is there for comparison (and for luls because he looks utterly disgusted with what I've drawn).

Vlam 05-14-2016 12:01 AM

Stranger has more muscles.

FennecFyre 05-14-2016 06:51 AM

In terms of color scheme , I meant.

Guineapiglet 05-15-2016 05:09 AM

Yeah, I think it works. I've noticed he's a hard one to keep interesting colour-wise since he's just different shades of brown.. so I might keep the green shirt on to offer some variation, but I DO understand if you want to show off dem pecs, hehe.

B))))))
In all seriousness though, that's not his original poncho, it's a new bit of native gear that I based off the first green armor you get in-game, and it'll be green too.
But yes he does have nice pecs hohoho

So, back when I first started this thread, I think I mentioned offhandedly that I was working on a SW fancomic thingy. Well:
http://img05.deviantart.net/805f/i/2...re-da2n55m.png
I wasn't joking.

The first of four reference sheets, which will mostly be for keeping characters looking consistent in my "style" and keeping track of their color schemes. I made Stranger a bit more of a desaturated dusty brown color in the final version, hopefully it's a bit more accurate.

You may cringe at at will!

Xorlidyr 05-16-2016 03:01 AM

I really think that your art is studio-quality. You shall go far with these amazing masterpieces.

D. Caste Raider, post- getting his shit kicked in and his base burnt down (with him in it) by Stranger. He's a just a little bit miffed about it. Gonna be in comic mostly because Sekto is gonna need a new host body.

Gunnr 05-22-2016 01:30 PM

I luv your Stranger's face, thnx!

FennecFyre 06-04-2016 04:31 PM

Annnnd here's Sekto as he'll be in the comic. I don't think Outlaw bands would have many designer suits laying around, so I tried a black duster coat instead.

Fun fact: His gun is based off two specific weapons: the Colt Single Action Army revolver, AKA the most famous gun of the Wild West (and I think also what Stranger’s crossbow was based off of) and the Smith & Wesson 500, a modern-day hunting pistol. I still can’t draw firearms at all tho 8I

Concerning the comic, here's a blurb copied off my Tumblr (I've been posting more Oddworld art on there than here, but it's mostly stupid doodles):
"The plot of the comic itself is mostly going to revolve around Stranger’s attempts to find and kill Sekto, while, at the same time, growing into his role as a steef guardian. However, both of these tasks are far, far easier said than done, and the arrival of a renegade from downriver with a ruthless bounty hunter hot on their heels (that’s right, I’m sticking OCs in this thing, everyone get ready to cringe!), as well as Stranger’s newly-bestowed status as the ultimate trophy hunt, only serve to complicate matters further. "

So, yeah. I'm writing an unironic fancomic because I'm a weirdo.

There's nothing to be ashamed of. To my knowledge, it has never been done before.

FennecFyre 06-04-2016 06:51 PM

I know there have been short/one-shot Oddworld fancomics (as well as plenty for other fandoms), though this is going to be more of a full-fledged graphic novel if I can see it to completion.

Guineapiglet 06-05-2016 05:56 AM

Ooh I really like the Sekto! Eager to see the comic now
