Is that your normal talking voice?

abe619 03-27-2016 07:31 AM

Static-y mic warning.

Man, I didn't expect an Egyptian accent to sound like that. You're like a mix between a Scandinavian and a Hasidic Jew.

Can I sell audio-books yet?

Most people I skype with say I sound American after a while, I don't know, I felt unusual recording a message with no one hearing me directly at real time, but yup this isn't the usual Egyptian accent at all, most Egyptians have ridiculously bad English.

Also, totally unrelated, we should try to do a massive skype call sometime.

Edit: And you could totally do audiobooks actually.

Absolutely not

When you hear my voice, you'll start questioning how I managed to sound like that! Unfortunately, my mic is thoroughly broke :fuzsad:

EditL: "good shit, good shit, got some good shit right there if I do say so, I say so, good shit!" I actually died Lool

I don't currently have access to a microphone but here's a video I recorded from STM which has my voice on it. Not my actual voice but still.

Maybe turn your volume down.

I think it's fascinating how our understanding of foreign languages is informed by who we hear it from, and how the accents we take up largely come from whom we listen to whilst picking up said language.

I assume your knowledge of English comes from speaking on a mostly English-language internet, and from watching western media?

I have learnt a little Farsi from my girlfriend for instance, but the accent comes from hers (which sounds odd considering she's a northerner), and from watching Iranian-American videos, where they exaggerate their accents for comedic effect. As such, any attempt to sound Farsi probably sounds nothing like what it should.

e: @ J.D., GUD SHIT.

abe619 03-27-2016 08:14 AM

Yeah, I learned English alot actually since I was a kid, alot of people in my family and bloodline in general have travelled to ALOT of places, so English was an important skill for most of us to learn, couple that with the fact that I've been in love with videogames since I was about 3 years old, and then the fact that I started going on to the internet more and then also the fact that I started really getting into rock and metal (Mostly the older stuff) at around age 14 upwards and then, yup, that's pretty much how I got my English.

The last time school actually helped me learn English was back at the very basics back at kindergarten and the very beginnings of primary school, other than that, I was usually ahead of school, I used to even correct the teachers for fun sometimes, and for a brief period in high school, one of my best friends nicknamed me "The Foreigner" cause of it. xD

Farsi is not that difficult for English-speaking people. Every sound in Farsi (except for ح , ق, عand غ) has an identical one in English.

abe619 03-27-2016 09:00 AM

Yeah, it's alot like Arabic, but I think it's hard.

I mean the very first letter in my real name (Amr) is that, and it just mindboggles people on skype as well, hence why everyone just calls me Mars.

Xorlidyr 03-27-2016 09:06 AM

Amir?

abe619 03-27-2016 09:54 AM

That's everyone's first guess, no, and to save you the trouble, it can't be written in English, it doesn't exist in English.

Nepsotic 03-27-2016 10:16 AM

It exists only in the void between dimensions.

STM 03-27-2016 10:25 AM

Also known as the Mediterranean :tard:

Xorlidyr 03-27-2016 10:29 AM

Could you, please, pronounce it and record?
