I'm doing everything in my power to promote this game; so I made a video with me giving an in-depth look into the screenshots (Perhaps a bit too much in-depth.) and I had nothing but positive things to say. Honestly, I can't see not a single thing wrong with the shots. Anyway here it is.

I generally did forget that screenshot. I looked at the website after I recorded and saw another one. And yeah I agree with most people. I'm not keen on the Portal effect either. E: Looks like I also forget the one on the support page as well. :) |

Besides, Monsaic is just a garbled portmentau of Mosaic and Monastic anyway. |

I imaged the 3D bird portal would look pretty much like this.

We can't even see them fully from the front in-game, even in this 2,5 perspective. So why even bother changing it so it looks good from the front?

I'm not denying that what they've done so far is great but there's still obvious room for improvement, and ass kissing isn't really helping. |
I don't mind the new portal design, I just wish it weren't so fluffy and cloudy. As has been mentioned before, the edges especially look too soft.
Although the intention is to contrast sharply with the surrounding environments, and they have done a good job in that respect, it contrasts so much it looks totally out of place in the game. |
The one thing they confirmed will stay the same is the one thing everybody else completely opposes.

However. Graphics and particle effects aside, My only worry is the gameplay. Judging the trailers, I've noticed Abe's movement to be a bit slower (For example, Abe climbing up a ledge) But I guess it's hard to compare because the original used sprites and a grid-like system. I'm sure it's going to be fine and play a lot like Abe's Oddysee. |

You’re judging the game by comparing a few pre-release screenshots to a game that you’ve been playing for over a decade and probably have idealized in your head. So how do you automatically know that every difference between the two is automatically bad? You don’t. And nobody here is ass-kissing, we’re just looking at the positives instead of fixating on the negatives like you are. I agree with Crashpunk, I’m not going to make any final decisions on the game until I see the gameplay in action. I do, however, know that they have done a great job so far in being faithful to the original; and I also know that for the most part, differences between the old and the new are most likely intentional, necessary, or placeholder content – remember that the JAW team are fans of the games, and they also have Wil keeping them on task. |

It seems perfectly clear to me that the original portal design is never going to translate to 3D graphics without looking both contrived and shite. The original sounds are fine, though.
What I would like to see, if the code and engine will support it, are rippling distortions around them. |

About judging pre-release screenshots: the game is going to be released between 2013 and 2014. It's only two months from now. You can safely assume it's at least close to final... Personally, I'd be dissapointed if they didn't fix the animation from here so their feet won't go through the ground when they jump. Is it minor? YES. Is it indifferent to gameplay? YES. Should it be fixed? Again, YES. The idea for every good game developer is to fix all of the bugs, and not just fix the biggest ones and go "eh fuck this, they'd buy it anyway". Imagine you've made a calculator app that works perfectly except when you try to multiply 15 by 3, then it crashes. Of course, you can multiply it without the app (it's 45, guys), but would you recommend it to anyone? |
We've already had a long argument about the bird portals, and JAW didn't care. We don't need another one. Besides, my design was the best.
