I spent Valentine's Day single, but for the first time in many years I wasn't especially bothered about it. I had come to the conclusion in the last week or so that I don't have the time or money for dating at the moment, and there's not much point meeting someone now when I'm hopefully going to be in another hemisphere in six months.

I'm in a similar boat. Another girl stomped all over my heart recently, but now I couldn't be arsed to spend time with someone if I even had the option. Hardly good boyfriend material.

Well, I got lots of Valentine's messages from a tonne of people. I hope that makes you all sad and jealous.

Now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever had a Valentines day message. Not even on the year I had a girlfriend. The closest I had was a bunch of rose petals left in my locker around this time of year in 2009. Noone ever owned up to it, so it ended up being more annoying than anything else.

I'm still not even completely sure who did it, but given the suspects there's a very good chance I've since been on a date with them.

At least you've had girlfriends and been on dates.

I'm not going to waste money on somebody just for the reason that those often ominously referred to as "they" designed a holiday to make you feel guilty for not throwing your cash away on cards and chocolates and other things that are more expensive than they ought to be. They'll get a card on their birthday and be grateful.

In general, though, the only thing I ever looked forward to with Valentines day were certain candies that were only sold around that time. I really don't like sweets, so when I find one I do enjoy I'll eat it pretty frequently. Unfortunately most of those sweets are only available around holidays like Valentines Day, Easter, and Halloween. I have no interest in the odd romance/friendship thing that comes along with it in my country.

She got a box of chocolates and I didn't get anything. That's more then OK because we are both fucking broke right now, we just bought our own loft together. How's that for some actual and relevant proof of love.
