Not really. MM nailed it with the handwriting thing.
|
No, he didn’t, and if you think type design is just writing an alphabet in your handwriting you’re an idiot.
|
Calm down, I wasn't being serious.
|
Designing a workable font is very difficult, and if you're successful you'll end up with something that looks just like any other generic typeface out there, except to experts whose keen eye will loath both your work and your mother for birthing you.
|
people are getting pissy and uptight about fonts
really? |
This is the Oddworld Forums, did you really expect anything less?
|
A wretched hive of scum and cliché.

It's funny because you typed it in a monospace font.
But, yeah. White/black for code stuff is great for saving eye-strain. I actually use a really dark shade of grey for my background, specifically 0x111111. |
You should type in courier new with a black background and green letters, that way it looks retro and techy. 80's style.

Since my IDE gives pretty colored underlines to mistakes in source code, I can also change the font/color and pretend I'm using Microsoft Word. |

GOD all i can say is if one looks pretty or not |
Sometimes I see a nice TYPEFACE and everything is great but then I forget what it was not even a few hours later.
|
More like TYPEFECES.
|
You know what's better than typefaces? Handwriting.
Because I'm anal I spend a fuck tonne of time practising my handwriting. I practice from something like this: http://cdn.thesandtrap.com/8/89/89138517_writing.jpeg And most copperplate fonts help too... |
I can't read any of that shit because my schools were full of incompetent fuck teachers who didn't know how to teach us cursive. The worst part was in middle school the cunts expected us to do all of our work in cursive and we'd get marked off if everything we wrote wasn't in cursive.
Guess who almost failed 6th and 7th grade because of that bullshit and still doesn't know how to read or write cursive |
I've always used Tahoma for any college work i've done. It looks nice and it's pretty contemporary... and it's a change from Calibri.
|
Tahoma's nice. Really, when it gets down to it, so long as the font isn't Ariel I rarely ever have a problem with it. Comic Sans doesn't bother me but it's fun to see how overused it is.
|
Because of Windows 7, the exam board lets us conduct essays in calibri now whereas before the only standardised font recognised was Times New Roman. It actually causes slight contention between people when we see each others essays.
I have a sort of overhanging reputation amongst some of my friends as being old school, not old school like the 60s, but old school like the 1660s, using TNR provides only more ammunition for them to strengthen this reputation. xD |
:
The other half of what makes a good font is its flexibility. How comprehensive is its glyph set, how large is its family, how well is it spaced, how does it combine with other fonts? Most of the crap on sites like dafont lacks that second bit. |
:
also pick one fucking font for your posts. that's all i ask. |

|
As I once said in a previous thread that had nothing to do with fonts:
:
|
QUOTES. GO. AT. START. OF. POST.

At the start, you say?

SHAKING MY HEAD IN STERN DISAPPROVAL AGAIN.

You know, I had completely forgot about that thread, thanks for reminding me of it.
