Well this version will give more people a chance to enjoy it.

Is it me or does abe look to small compared to the height of that ledge? unless he has a mega jump power.. lol

:

()
That's what I thought at first, but I compared that to original screenshots and the proportions are pretty much the same

Same here. Turns out Abe is a good jumper. No wonder he was rocking all those somersaults by the time of Munch.

Manco 08-09-2012 03:31 PM

I’m interested to see how the jumping and climbing animations will look in a full 3D environment. Could we be seeing Abe bracing himself against that wall with his feet?

Scrabaniac 08-09-2012 03:51 PM

I kinda dont want to see him get shot, mauled, blown up or minced, he looks kinds cuter now he's in shiny HD!

Bullet Magnet 08-09-2012 03:57 PM

The internal architecture of Rupture Farms is nuts. Platforms that go nowhere, spaced just so that the enslaved freerunner species can get anywhere but the guards cannot.

Bump mapping is last-gen. Depth is added to textures using bump mapping, and all the textures have bump maps.

The textures already have bump mapping? They don't look like it...

Looking at that screenshot has made me really excited to see the Monsaic Lines.

Ditto. Very ditto.

STM 08-09-2012 06:16 PM

Paramonia too. Baring in mind Monsaic Lines is my favourite game environment of any game, ever, I'll cry if it's not done justice. I wonder why it's called Monsaic Lines, too.

enchilado 08-09-2012 06:32 PM

I thought the Monsaic Lines were ugly.

Clannfear 08-09-2012 09:41 PM

They were beautiful in the artworks, not so much for me in the game, but hey - its just my opinion ;)

JennyGenesis 08-10-2012 12:21 AM

I thought the Monsaic Lines looked great, I just hated that level because it was so boring.

Crashpunk 08-10-2012 01:52 AM

I just can't wait to see Free-Fire Zone. Just too see that beautiful sky and Abe's Moon :3

When STM says the Monsaic Lines were his favorite environment ever, I know he’s a fool because the Free-Fire Zone holds that spot. Most atmospheric and tense video game environment ever.

Crashpunk 08-10-2012 05:41 AM

Couldn't agree with you more Manco :)

STM 08-10-2012 05:42 AM

It's really a matter of opinion. I always found that the temperate atmosphere, the calm reprise and the sheer enormity of the temple were so captivating to me. There was so much thought put into that place and it really pays off, even down to the most minuscule details, such as the birds that flock down onto the platforms, you can sneak past them or just walk past and that decides whether they fly away or not. Combined with the minimalist soundtrack to the level, it all makes it so mystical.

DarkHoodness 08-10-2012 11:42 AM

EDIT: Oh never mind, the last thing this board needs is yet more spam. You can find what I made in the topic where it belongs, and attached to this post.

I do have a serious question though. Are those round, yellow-framed ball things embedded in the walls in the original game making a re-appearance in the new version? Sure, they're only a minor part of RFs design, but still a recognisable part considering you see them everywhere.

Also, the mudokon hand-print was a good way of indicating the presence of touchstones or switches of importance to the player - I hope they get re-implemented too in some way.

Crashpunk 08-11-2012 01:50 AM

Sneaking in your Minecraft adventure map I see :)

Xavier 08-12-2012 02:37 AM

This screenshot tells me we can trust JAW for the visual style of this game. I am actually very excited about this now :D

As some have pointed out here already, add a little more details to this and I'll be a happy man.

It they don't mess up with the background and this is only pre-alpha this game will really return in everyone homes.

Still if i can do the "devil lawyer" you should add some rust to the pipes and some grafitti (remember that is supposed to be a dirty place).
And i hope the leds will not address the player directly anymore (like; press this to do thath)
And please don't make Abe talk to the player like in AE at the end of the drunken mudokons movie.

He also does this in AO in the intro movie, where he yells 'so, get me outta here!', but he doesn't actually face the player in that instance.

STM 08-16-2012 05:51 AM

Kinda breaks the fourth wall.

Paul 08-16-2012 07:27 AM

The demo also used to add "and help me rescue the others".

Fischkopf 08-16-2012 09:27 AM

The walls look a little naked and they are too clean, needs more dirt and rust. And why is abe leaning forward in such an odd way?

Bullet Magnet 08-16-2012 05:07 PM

He's a mudokon.

Ya know.. they do some odd things in Oddworld ;)

Scrabaniac 08-17-2012 01:56 AM

In relation to abe breaking the fourth wall, i hate that in games, especially when the character says whilst in game: i need to get to this location and if i hit the triangle button, i jump! Its ridiculous and takes away the attractiveness of the game

you try doing slavery most of your life and have a perfect back...

Phantasos 08-21-2012 02:20 AM

I think I'll be going just to see Lorne Lanning make some wildly ambitious comments about the future of the gaming industry. It's not that I disagree with the things he says, but as we all know - some of his promises are often a little behind schedule.. of a deadline of never.

But ahhh, he's a good kid.

Wil 08-21-2012 02:23 AM

It helps me to consider that they're not promises, they're hopes and intentions.

Xavier 08-22-2012 01:08 AM

It's called wishful thinking.

I'm sad I'll not be able to attend, I already have an important wedding planned on that day (no, not mine).
