Currently reading J.K. Rowling's latest novel, because it was bought for me and I'm polite.
It's extremely obvious she had complete protection from editors when writing this, and the publisher knew it'd only need her name on it to sell. It's not bad, but it's very pedestrian and her excesses as a writer are bared for all to see. |
According to my mum, the profuse swearing is quite unnecessary and at times lessens the enjoyability of the book. Did you think that yourself? As you've said, it's quite average, that's what I've heard and thusly I've not had any inclination to pick it up. I never read Harry Potter either though.
I've been reading Never Let Me Go by Ishiguro. I think it's going to have an emotional end. It's amazing, I can see why he won the Booker. |

Also everyone is flawed. This is generally a good thing, but everyone here is flawed to the point where you just feel apathetic towards them. |
Ah. Well maybe she should stick with writing children's fiction. Generally when you get into the groove of a specific genre, it's hard to break that mould. So I understand anyway.
I suggest you try Never Let Me Go at some point by the way, I'm not sure why but I have an inkling you'd enjoy it. |
I'm about half way through This Book is Full of Spiders. Pretty damn fun. Had me giggling a few times. I'm not sure I like it as much as I did John Dies at the End, but I'm only half way through, so I can't say for sure.
