He's implying that after you upload a new animated GIF, a mod will swoop in and delete it. But he's mistaken. It won't disappear; it just won't upload at all.

I'm pretty sure he uploaded that avatar before the rules were changed. Either that, or vBulletin fucked up. Both are equally believable.

When did the rule change? I don't remember it, so I doubt it was after his join date.

Reasonably sure by the rules changing, Nate means he's changed the upload thingy so you can't upload gifs anymore.

I may have chosen my words poorly; it wasn't a rule per se, but Alcar changed the permissions years ago so that no-one could use animated GIFs. I don't remember when it was precisely, or whether he announced it publically at the time.

When the official forum rules were updated last year, it was introduced formally.

It was the other day I uploaded it. It must've been a vBulletin glitch because the actual file was a .gif. Guess it was luck :p.

I've worked out what you've done. Either you're smart enough to know how to game the vBulletin detection, or you're oblivious and very lucky.

That said, your animated avatar is still breaching the forum rules. If you don't change it, you'll lose it. Thus making MA's prediction true.


EDIT: Also, it's not animating in IE. I haven't decided yet whether that's because IE is smart or dumb.

That's because that specific avatar was uploaded in Firefox and can only be seen properly in Firefox or Opera.

The reason others won't work is because that animation was from someguy on the quake forums. It works though.

Yes I do, it's from quake and can only be seen in firefox or opera. Hence why it's a quake symbol and the fact that IE and Chrome don't see it.

• You said that it only works in certain browsers because it was uploaded in a certain browser. There is no evidence for this.
• You said that it only works because it was made by someone on the Quake forums. There is no evidence for this, and it contradicts your earlier explanation.

1. Nate said it didn't work in IE, and Havoc said it didn't work on Chrome.
2. Why would I need evidence to prove I got it off quake forums. I could of got it off a crappy gif site and it wouldn't make a difference.
