ODDWORLD INHABITANTS’ ODDBOXX FINALLY OPENS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON, FOR PC OWNERS VIA STEAM.

LOS ANGELES, U.S.A – December 6th, 2010

Oddworld Inhabitants is pleased to announce that its critically-acclaimed, award-winning classics, Abe’s Oddysee, Abe’s Exoddus, Munch’s Oddysee and Stranger’s Wrath will be available for PC owners, through Steam in one generous downloadable package, this 2010 Holiday season.

Dynamithix 12-06-2010 07:38 AM

DEAR LAWDAH.

Jordan 12-06-2010 07:39 AM

I hope to god my PC will run MO and SW.

MeechMunchie 12-06-2010 07:53 AM

Holy Yaweh!

OANST 12-06-2010 07:54 AM

Hey! It's that thing we knew about!

MeechMunchie 12-06-2010 07:57 AM

Yes, but now they've announced it, and it's too soon to move without very good reason. You made a fuss over when Tim Schafer stopped saying 'We're ready to do Psychonauts 2.' and started saying 'Right, we're actually ready to do Psychonauts 2 now.'

Deal with it.

OANST 12-06-2010 08:00 AM

That's a new game, and it's the first time he said it. If I'm still excited after he says it thirty times then you can yell at me all you want. Actually, I take that back. I still get to be excited because it's a new game.

Dynamithix 12-06-2010 09:33 AM

OANST, why are you so negative when it comes to Oddworld?

OWI and JAW are trying their best to keep us updated, you shouldn't shit on them right away.

OANST 12-06-2010 09:45 AM

I don't know. Maybe because they hint and hint and hint about great upcoming projects. Then they announce the projects, which turn out to be ports of games that were made years and years ago. Then they delay the release of the games that were released years and years ago. Also, they cancelled new games outright, tried to make an absurdly stupid looking film that fell through, thank god, and their new "new" project is a social network. So, yeah. They've used up all the good will that I had to offer.

I will buy the remastered Stranger's Wrath, though.

Mr. Bungle 12-06-2010 09:47 AM

I'm slightly sided with OANST on this one. I just want a new game, they need to stop teasing us.

Dynamithix 12-06-2010 11:32 AM

Sadly, you're pretty much right.

But Gilray did say there will be five or six new projects and we have yet to see what the upcoming ones are.

I really hope that they'll announce something truly new and not a freakin' Munch's Oddysee remake for the 360 or anything like that...

Sekto Springs 12-06-2010 11:35 AM

I dunno. A remake of MO the way they originally intended it to be would be pretty cool.

Dynamithix 12-06-2010 11:39 AM

Yes, but if they would just remake the game that they released in the first place, don't know...

Yeah, I guess it could be interesting.

OANST 12-06-2010 11:53 AM

If they are doing that they should just make Munch's Exoddus.

Manco 12-06-2010 12:01 PM

Yeah, Munch's Exoddus would be nice.

In fact, pretty much anything new from the Quintology would be nice.

What would be the difference between reimagining Munch's Oddysee with all the originally-intended plots and characters and creating Munch's Exoddus with all of Munch's Oddysee's originally-intended plots? At least with the former we can pretend the original MO never happened.

ziggy 12-06-2010 12:23 PM

Thinking about it, there might not really be a difference, that's true. Man, MO was very misleading. The first few cutscenes were very good. You could see the downward spiral at the beginning of the Lulu section, and then all those godawful newspaper segues. Please no mudokon teeth either.

I just think it would be confusing to people who aren't privy to all the ins and outs the way we are.

Manco 12-06-2010 12:54 PM

Plus, they can hardly just go "yeah, see that game over there? Not canon". I'd rather see the rest of the story told via Exoddus.

STM 12-06-2010 01:09 PM

DIS IS GOOD NEWS, I could thrust all of you...but I won't

And of those people lots won't care, and the rest will comprise the usual confused fans that have always existed in any fandom.

Ifwhen Oddworld films come out, the story will be vastly different to the games. Does that mean the games aren't canon? It's been an inevitability that there will be different stories for each, uh, story since Lorne first gave the first hint of wanting to do an Oddworld film. Maybe I've just been aware of that long enough to grow comfortable with the idea.

By the way, I don't actually have any particular feelings one way or the other. It's just that your reasoning isn't enough to sway me.

My only point being that the confusion could ultimately hurt sales.

Sekto Springs 12-06-2010 01:34 PM

Devil May Cry did it. Though I can't attest to whether or not they should have.

But that was a series reboot, and Devil May Cry is much better entrenched in the public's mind than Oddworld is at this point.

However, a complete series reboot, going all the way back to Abe's Oddysee could work very well.

I think that since films and games are different media, they don't have to subscribe to the same canon or story - it's like saying that the Batman movies must fit into the same canon as the comics.

And yes, I'm aware that comics also have different canon/stories within the same media, but these are all self-contained - none of them encroach on or overwrite other stories/canon.

Basically what I'm saying is OWI should either keep MO as canon and expand upon it, or come up with a new story - they can't declare that game non-canon and continue the same story.

So, remake AO, AE and MO?

Yeah why not, but I rather have something truly new.

Agreed. I want something completely new. A new game with new characters and gameplay with some aspects from the old ones.

Once they do that, then I think then they should remake the old ones.
