That would be a great idea. What do u think, Bill trio?

 Bill: Whoop, whoop
:fuzcool: Benny: mememe
:fuzemb: Baele: ...

... I think they are trying to make word's

Goresplatter 08-16-2010 01:58 AM

Thanks everyone for helping to realise my idea :D

And I apologise for being able to do very little toward it except for concept. I unfortunately know very little about the coding, and I attempted to do the sprites, but I keep messing up continuously and have to start from the beginning, only to fail again.

Thanks everyone, really appreciate the work, sorry I'm a bit of a third wheel! :(

I can remove that.. any reason why its got 54 extra pixels?

I did 9(127) as opposed to 9(121)

EDIT: I messed up the walking sprites. I probabaly won't have too much time to work on this untill the weekend. Don't expect it untill Sunday. Feel free to take over, anyone.

STM 08-16-2010 04:05 AM

Oops Didn't see the extra page my bad.

I can give some more a go

EDIT: walking sprites done in one long frame
EDIT: turning sprites done in one long frame

Paul 08-16-2010 04:41 AM

Looking good :D

Ideally we could do with each strip being below the other in the final huge sprite sheet too ;)

STM 08-16-2010 04:49 AM

shall I do that, I'm going out in a bit.

Phylum 08-16-2010 05:21 AM

I couldn't compile them into one sheet due to time constraints. Sorry.

The included text file has all the necessary information.

Sorry, STM. Feel free to make these into one sheet. I hope you see this before you finish :/

STM 08-16-2010 06:09 AM

will do

Paul 08-16-2010 09:55 AM

Looks good, I'll try and test one out later if I get some time

GABBITS OWN 08-17-2010 01:18 AM

Please do, I am very interested in this....

STM 08-17-2010 02:34 AM

Compiled into one folder from Phylum's set, credits and legal also put in there

GABBITS OWN 08-17-2010 02:51 AM

Thank you, I am going to use these in my secert project....

STM 08-17-2010 03:11 AM

oh are you? Make sure you get permission, read the txt file

Ridg3 08-17-2010 03:16 AM

I'm surprised at the enthusiasm that this project has been getting, I'm very interested to see how it will progress.

Paul, have you got the source code for eSheep and if so, could you send me it please, so I have a dabble in this witchcraft subject that is coding... unless it's Java, I hate Java.
Naw, but it would be extremely appreciative if you have it and can send it to me.

Nice work!

One question however, I don't mean to be nitpicking, but I think there may be frames missing from the walking animation. Unless I'm mistaken, the last frame doesn't match up with the first, and those frames would encompass the other 'step' in the walk. I could be wrong though.

I've been looking through the sprites we have, however, and I can't find the missing pieces, so I don't know where they would be...

P.s. I guess it's a good thing we're not incorporating running as of yet. The sprites are broken up into several scenarios which would have to be pieced together. Looks like it would be a real ballache. :p

Wait, im going to do my own,

ha, okay

STM 08-17-2010 06:36 AM

Stop spamming OitB that was pointless.

ODDWORLDisTHEbest! 08-17-2010 07:45 AM

but true...
sorry. about this project, i think its a really good idea, and i'd love to help, but unfortunatley, i dont want to, no just kiddin, id like to see what its like when its done. this could possibly be the best fan-made thing ever, also the only fan-made thing ever

Nope not got the source, it will have to be c/c++/c# (with pInvoke) since this has to use win32 API's.

Hmm thats likely because it then switches to idle, so the first frame of idle would be the start/end frames. If you play the walking only frames in a loop it looks exactly as it does in the game.. or at least it does to me ;)

Paul 08-17-2010 02:40 PM

Here is the beta version, don't expect it get much better than this other than a bit more stable and teleport/smash animations..

Edit: Removed the binary as people are reporting "its a virus"

Phylum 08-17-2010 11:02 PM

I think that the sligs could afford to fall a it faster, if that's possible.

Still, well done. These are great! +rep

Ridg3 08-18-2010 12:22 AM

That's really well done... and I had to laugh whenever you click on them the do a jig across the screen.

Paul 08-18-2010 01:57 AM

It could have been done a lot better using hooks and such, but meh it was hacked together and it works..

If any of you sprite people want to help with tagging all the sprites head over to the open source alive engine thread. I want to beable to auto generate sprite sheets for all Mud/Slig/Elum/Abe+Elum/Paramite and Scrab animations.

I'll also need help getting the exact format of the original level files too, by this I mean how the screen connect together because this isn't always clear (E.g in Rupturefarms the slate stone maps are to the right with a 1 screen space between them).

I can give much more details if anyone wants to help :D

STM 08-18-2010 10:36 AM

I think we only need mudokon, elum and slig to keep it effectively brill!

CAN't OPEN, apparently Norton thinks it's a heuristic virus

Phylum 08-18-2010 03:40 PM

What dodgy shit are you inflicting on us, Paul :p

Maybe it's a good thing I only ran it on my mums computer...

Paul 08-18-2010 03:46 PM

It likely thinks its a virus because it sees that its trying to monitor the position of all open windows, normally used for seedy things like keyloggers :P That and because the EXE is compressed to save space, most anti viruses don't like packed files, a good test is always to use http://virusscan.jotti.org/en which uses many scanners :)

Edit, NONE of the scanners pick it up as suspicious.. that impiles you have an old out of date buggy over aggressive heuristic anti virus (http://virusscan.jotti.org/en/scanre...386fa58a738b73)

Phylum 08-18-2010 11:20 PM

No offence or anything, but what you say in the matter has little or no meaning– you'd hardly tell us tif you were inflicting a virus unto us.

I can tell you that my Avast! says it's clean.

GABBITS OWN 08-18-2010 11:43 PM

It gave me a virus, but meh.

It gave me a virus, but meh.

Sorry guys but im getting slightly pissed off here... it DID NOT GIVE YOU A VIRUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you understand now?

Anyone who thinks its a virus is silly since why would I do that? If I was going to write a virus I would write a trojan that steals passwords or some such, which would mean it needs network access. (Please un UPX the EXE and look at its imports, it doesn't use winsock!)

And given the fact that I'm going to release the source don't you think it would be slightly retarded to write a virus and then give the source away??

"It gave me a virus, but meh." is such a retarded statement.. what you mean is that your anti virus told you its a "heuristic" threat. This means it looked at the API's it uses and is telling you "hey this does some funny stuff, it MIGHT be bad" please read wtf your anti virus is telling you in future.

Edit: Also, if I was writing a virus, I'd make damn well sure its not detected!

@Phylum why does it have no meaning? So EVERY current UP TODATE virus scanner saying its clean has no meaning.. hmmm?
