well, if its on arcade, its gonna be small, its not gonna be released on its own disc, and it wont have that feel to it.

Why do you say that? What have you experienced that would make you say that?

Wil 07-16-2010 07:29 AM

It won't be released on disc. Fact. Get over your hunter-gatherer hoarding instincts and live with it, I'm afraid. I'd have felt like you a few years ago, but its impracticality and fragility has caused physical media to be blown out of the water by digital distribution, which is cheaper, faster and easier.

EDIT: Also, it's multi-platform stuff. Stewart Gilray says these things in the podcast.

Oh my God you speedy bastards! This is gooood news, especially coming from Nate! Good old Lorne

Lord Stanley 07-16-2010 09:01 AM

I really hope this news is true. If it's not, I will go and sulk and never talk to Lorne Lanning again...not that I ever have, anyway.

I hope they make it for PC.

ODDWORLDisTHEbest! 07-16-2010 09:11 AM

pc, or xbox, or both.

Viper45 07-16-2010 11:58 AM

I am a bit disappointed to hear that they're most likely arcade titles. We won't have anything close to the scale of Stranger's Wrath, if that's the case...

...but that doesn't mean they will be bad games. If, for example, they were doing a 2.5D Abe game (like what could have possibly been hinted at on their twitter) at a scale similar to Shadow Complex, I would be sooo freakin happy with that.

Besides, Oddworld needs to work its way back into the gaming industry. I don't think they could handle the funding for a full blown $60 retail title right now.

This is exactly right. They are going to need to prove that Oddworld is still a viable ip if they ever want to make AAA games again. Digital distribution of smaller scale games seems to be the best way to do this.

I am happy. Thanks a lot for relaying this. :)

Mac Sirloin 07-16-2010 12:20 PM

YAY

Hopefully we'll be getting more details soon.

OANST 07-16-2010 12:23 PM

My guess is that the "multiple projects" refers to the porting of MO and SW to Steam, plus the new 2.5D game.

The Brewmaster 07-16-2010 12:45 PM

Does sound about right cant wait for the 2.5D game though going to be awesome to have Oddworld back.

shaman 07-16-2010 12:52 PM

I'm hoping it's on a platform like steam, my Xbox died on me a while back and i'm not about to buy another consol just for Oddworld.

ODDWORLDisTHEbest! 07-16-2010 12:54 PM

i have recently tweeted to this abemudokon, and i asked him about the new games, i know he wont be able to spill much, but hopefully enough. ang on let me see if hes replied.

EDIT: no he hasnt replied yet.

Wil 07-16-2010 01:05 PM

He'll probably just fart at you.

ODDWORLDisTHEbest! 07-16-2010 01:07 PM

haha lol! no but really.

ANN NEELY 07-16-2010 02:37 PM

Hey, I came back after so many years just to express my excitement. It's been difficult waiting for so long, but it's all paying off.
If we could only get some pics or a trailer...

Michael 07-16-2010 04:50 PM

As OANST suggested, some of the projects may be porting existing games- this would make sense (after all, I cannot imagine that JAW would be creating lots of games at once).

If this is the case, going by how a PS3 release has not been hinted so far, it is possible that this particular project may be porting the originals (AO and AE) to Live Arcade- hence the absence of PSN, since they are already there. Just a thought ;)

Daxter King 07-16-2010 04:56 PM

Id love for the Oddbox to be released on the 360 in some form, as it would be much easier for me to play on that than on my computer. I highly doubt it happening though.

Nate 07-16-2010 10:37 PM

My gut feeling is that their first choice for digital download service would be Steam. Back in 2007 when I met Lorne, he was extremely positive about Steam, Valve and the way that they treat developers.

Al the Vykker 07-16-2010 10:44 PM

I am so happy to hear that Oddworld Inhabitants has survived and that at least some in the industry valued their creativity and work enough to help them get back in the game. I think a next generation version of an Oddworld game should feature Abe as the lead and would be great way to bring the brand back. Hell, I'd take a new version of Abe's Oddysee for x360. I can't wait to see and hear what happens next.

Scraby 07-17-2010 04:09 AM

when will the coming soon site come soon? any specificated date about it coming?

Nate 07-17-2010 04:14 AM

We've been told it should happen this month. Nothing more specific than that.

Scraby 07-17-2010 04:16 AM

ok thx

ODDWORLDisTHEbest! 07-17-2010 06:04 AM

and will it be oddmobb or still oddwordl? or both?

Josh 07-17-2010 07:41 AM

The name of the company does not affect the name of the ingame planet.

Jordan 07-17-2010 07:42 AM

I think he meant the website, whether it'd be oddmobb.com or oddworld.com. My guess is that it will be Oddmobb.
