You didn’t like that about Abe’s Oddysee? Or do you mean you wouldn’t like to see them used as beasts of burden?

Sanssouci 07-04-2009 05:28 AM

No, I didn't like it about Abe's Oddysee. It always felt like one of the nonsensical things I had to put up with cos it's a video game.
That film flowchart with the references to docile (or at least tame) cattle felt like an affirmation of this.

If they are to become beasts of burden, their designs would fundamentally change so they wouldn't exactly be the scrabs we know and love. I don't have a problem with that.

Fuzzle Guy 07-04-2009 08:10 AM

The complaint that a factory wouldn't really be using ferocious predators as the food isn't much of a valid complaint, to me. In a world that it seems perfectly legal to murder Mudokons - intelligent lifeforms who, providing they have money, would be fully capable of achieving a lifestyle similar to that of a Glukkons, I don't think it is difficult to accept that this world also uses deadly beasts as a primary food source.

Sanssouci 07-04-2009 04:39 PM

Yeah. Except back when British society was largely racist and murder-happy, why didn't we use bears, foxes, owls and eagles as primary food sources?????? Makes no sense to me!

Wil 07-04-2009 04:46 PM

Because they all taste shit. Scrabs taste gooooooooood. ^^

Sanssouci 07-04-2009 04:48 PM

Really Fuzzle Guy, you're saying farming a lean gamey predator makes sense if you have no problem killing the underclass. That's bollocks. Farming a lean gamey predator does not make sense.

The eco-system would require herbivores or omnivores which would be prime candidates for domesticating and farming ala cows or pigs. Animals which would have been farmed for hundreds if not thousands of years.Scrabs and paramites need not apply.

Sanssouci 07-04-2009 04:49 PM

(foxes and owls taste really really nice actually. There just must be some other reason why we did not farm them all those years ago!)

I also hear lions taste great (unfortunately I've never tried them). Why have the kenyans never bothered to farm them!???????

Fuzzle Guy 07-04-2009 05:18 PM

What is the difference between these as a food source and Scrabs?

Sanssouci 07-04-2009 05:20 PM

Those super cows are not used as a food source. They are used as pedigrees in ridiculous competitions.

Fuzzle Guy 07-04-2009 05:21 PM

They are eaten. I watched it on TV once. Some food critic. His complaint being fat is needed for flavour.

Wil 07-04-2009 05:23 PM

I feel the need to point out that Scrabs and Paramites weren’t farmed, they were hunted.

Fuzzle Guy 07-04-2009 05:25 PM

Like Crabs.

Scrab cakes are similar to Crab cakes.

Sanssouci 07-04-2009 05:25 PM

The stockyards of RuptureFarms is evidence to the contrary

Wil 07-04-2009 05:29 PM

Storage. Maturation. Gameplay.

Sanssouci 07-04-2009 05:31 PM

Storage. Maturation
Sounds like a farm.

Gameplay
Which is basically what I was saying at the top of this page.

Dude, come on. Scrabs fucking rule and you're not going to change that. This is fucking Oddworld. If Lorne had a dime for every logical inconsistency in the game, CS would have premiered a long time ago.

Fleeches, for god's sake. They're just like fucking catdog. Should we cut them out too?

Explodable, possessible farts. I mean, Jesus!

Sanssouci 07-04-2009 06:44 PM

Yeah I like scrabs, but not as a farmed animal. My only point is I don't think they would be farmed in an oddworld film.

On a similar note, you reckon Abe will be possessing and exploding farts in the film?

used:) 07-04-2009 06:52 PM

I don't think Rupture Farms would be Rupture Farms without the legions of suffering wildlife.

And no, I was just pointing out there are much more ridiculous things in Oddworld than whether or not Scrabs are farmed.

Sanssouci 07-04-2009 06:56 PM

And I'm sure such suffering wildlife will be there. As a type of tame domesticated "cattle", not scrabs.

We could make a long list of illogical game things which probably wouldn't be put into the series of films.
We'd have such fun debating the borderline cases - wells! etc

Fuzzle Guy 07-05-2009 06:38 AM

Also, I have just realised that the beast with the fire in this picture could in fact be the Shrykull. If the new livestock is going to be the furry bovine-like Cattle, then it would seem to make sense that the Shrykull is going to be composed of these animals, who seem to have replaced the Paramites and Scrabs as the animals of worship in the cave picture.

Hazel-Rah 07-06-2009 10:21 AM

I think OWI has what it takes to put James Cameron's "Avatar" to shame. I just hope that the CGI isn't all the movie has going for it like "Advent Children".

STM 07-07-2009 11:20 AM

OI, this is really off topic!

Actually, I think you'll find Oddworld Inhabitants is exactly what we're meant to be discussing in this forum :tard:

Soapy Jackson 07-08-2009 12:58 AM

lawl why didn't you guys see this earlier

I don't think they're Scrabs in that second picture.

They appear to be these. (Meeches, if memeory serves me well.)

moxco 07-08-2009 01:14 AM

It looks like a big squiggle to me.

MeechMunchie 07-08-2009 12:03 PM

They look less like Meeches than they do Scrabs.

Fuzzle Guy 07-08-2009 01:04 PM

This person made one post and started their post with lawl. I think it's a multi.

Leto 07-08-2009 02:16 PM

I call shenanigans.

your talking bullshit (get it?) mate. beef cattle are farmed to have ridiculous amounts of muscle so WE CAN EAT IT. therefore, 'those super cows' are indeed eaten, its just that show cows are not and are usually buried when they die.

and i agree with Max. Scrabs aren't farmed, they are hunted.
