I hope I get to go to college..... My parents used to have $900,000 saved up in the stock market, the stock market crashed and now they only have $200,000, well they say they only have 200,000, but they probably have less then that :( so that's why I'm constatly looking for ways to earn money.

university, its to get a degree in a subject, you go there after collage but ends up costing about £7,000 - £10,000, i think anyway. lukily you dont have to go to uni

and yerh education in the UK is completly free untill you turn 18, or if you go to a private school.

bobtheguy 05-30-2009 08:44 AM

That's less then what it is going to cost me for just 1 year in a decent U.S. collage
by the way in the U.S. it costs to go to pre-school, then it's free to go to elementary, middle school, and High school, well apart from the taxes we have to pay to the state to support the schools.

lol you think your taxes are bad, because england has all the benifits, NHS, Free schools, our taxes are stupid, everything we buy has 15% tax, theres council tax as well which is 20% or 40% off your earnings

im guessing pre-school is nursery? the year before reception? for us thats free also

bobtheguy 05-30-2009 09:10 AM

I forgot how much taxes we pay, as I'm not the one who pays them, my parent's do.
By the way everyone this is random and has nothing to do with this thread, but I went to Best Buy used their free wi-fi and finally got Gamemaker7 lite :D

Just to not let matters get confused any further: Most US equivalent higher educational institutions are called Colleges, as opposed to University over here.

used:) 05-30-2009 11:15 AM

Yep. In the US, College = University. Most of them are called universities, but when referring to higher level education, you call it college.

I graduate from high school next Friday. I'm taking a year off before college to spend some time with my Peruvian grandmother in Lima. I don't know how this will all work exactly since I have to get auditions hooked up and if I can't do anything musical, I won't stay for very long. Don't use it, you lose it.

Could someone spell out the educational systems in the UK and Canada, please?

i think by systems you mean this.

You start at nursery at about 3 /4 yrs old

then after about a year you go to primary school where it starts off at Reception Class

then year one, year two, ect, up untill year 6.

you then move to high school at 11 years old and start in year 7 up untill year 11 when your 16 and take your GCSEs

Primary school and high school are split up into groups called key stages.

Reception - year 3 = KS1
year 4 - year 6 = KS2
year 7 - year 9 = KS3
year 10 and year 11 = KS4

you then move on to collage for how ever many years your course is (usually 2) to get your A-Level

after you go to universaty where you study for a degree

Note that the U.K. education system has been fiddled about with so much that there are many different ways to go through your education, some remnant, some experimental, some private. For me, First School lasted four years and Middle School another four, so I was in Year 8 when I moved to High School—but there was also a Year 7 at my High School. Now my old Middle School has been knocked down and replaced with an ‘Elementary School’.

I understand there are also some schools that emulate the old 11+ system.

this thread is officially dead, so if a moderator is viewing this feel free to move it to necrum or delete it.

joshkrz 06-03-2009 02:36 PM

PM a mod, but you may as well leave it, just because no one is posting at the moment dosent mean no one will. Thread get moved to necrum or close after 6 months anyway

also since when did this thread have 2 pages?

MA 06-03-2009 02:40 PM

its got 3 pages.

BTG threads aren't closed unless a mod finds a significant reason to do so, like excessive spam or flaming. it will just fade away into the background and be stored in OWF archives where not even the boldest of admins dare to go...

in other words just leave it.

Slog Bait 06-03-2009 09:46 PM

Last day of my 10th year is tomorrow.

Makes me happy knowing I won't ever have the shitty art teacher I had for the past two years ever again, now I just have to hope the other one is somewhat good at teacher, and actually critiques my work instead of flat out saying it's shit.

bobtheguy 06-03-2009 10:21 PM

this is very strange, right when I thought, and posted that I thought this thread was dead there is suddenly a boom of posts :D very strange. by the way Slog Bait I think my art teacher is bad, but for a different reason, my art teacher compliments people on anything they do even when it looks horrible......... once I decided to draw a cow and call it a fish instead and my art teacher still said "great fish". my art teacher also does not give much tips on how to draw stuff.

Pilot 06-03-2009 11:51 PM

I'm getting old guys..... just watched my little sister's high school graduation.

She was but a tot back when I graduated. :(

joshkrz 06-04-2009 01:14 AM

yerh its like my sister, she used to be just... normal in year 6, and now shes into the emo / screamo scene in year 8 which i dont really approve of :\

btg thats a bit like my graphics teacher, he praises people who cant do graphics for shit, and then says to me and a few other people, oh yerh that good... alough he is the best teacher in school, he lets me go out for a ciggarette in lesson :D

that reminds me of my art teacher. i used to have 2 text books full of strange cartoons (which i have bloody lost, somewhere in the loft) but she didnt think it was art. in the end i gave up on my art exam and painted some giant maltesers with a blue background. i think i got a G or something.
