Just finished G Gundam and I thought it was absolutely brilliant, apart from the stark nationalism, by far one of the best shonen I've seen.
Now I need suggestions for a new anime to fill my drive for stories, negrep to all replies containing some variation of 'Anime sucks' and posrep to any clever symbolic intriguing animes given. |

One Piece is now on the list, I did however just find out about an anime called Serial Experiments Lain. Which seems to be exactly what I'm looking for.

Annie May sux
Heh, I was going to recommend Serial Experiments: Lain, actually! Its really very good. I don't watch too much anime these days, however FLCL will always be awesome. (if you're looking for something not anime but still Japanese, try to find the Japanese drama Trick. Its awesome) |
Gundam 00 if you like serious, Lucky Star if you like comedy and irreverence, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Zeta Gundam, Code Geass, World Destruction, Strike Witches, Blue Drop, Ghost In The Shell, Sky Girls, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds, Night Wizard, Sengoku Basara, Zettai Karen Children, Full Metal Panic!, Slayers, Basquatch!....
|
I liked watching Kablam! at 4 in the morning when I was in preschool, as well as Ah! Real Monsters and Rocko's Modern Life, which usually followed it up. :)
The only anime's I actually thought were pretty good were Deathnote and FLCL; though Full Metal Alchemist was decent it just doesn't top. |

Anime is merely a medium through which I quench my desire for high quality stories, the quality is solely down to the production studio and writers involved, not just because it's anime. I will now link back to this post everytime someone tells me that anime sucks. |
I saw part of Ghost in the Shell. It was boring as hell as a movie, it's boring as hell as a series.
TOKYO GODUFASERS. I hear the rest of Satoshi Kon's work is quite brilliant as well. Paranoia Agent is one of my all-time favorite animes. I think you'd enjoy it, Joe. |
:
I spoke incorrectly. Rather, what I should've said "something not anime but anime-like", as that's really what I meant. The show always stuck me as one that could very easily be a good anime. In anycase, I apologize for the comment. |
No worries :p I've been waiting for an excuse to get that out of my system for weeks.

Gundam 00.

Pocky is delicious.
Yes. |
Before I went away, I tried to watch Martin and Candy in "Planes, Trains and Automobiles". I instead ended up watching the ever so shit "Britain's Got Talent" when Emily switched over. I could have and should have killed her. Very seldom is something decent on, and when there actually is, I still end up watching shit. At least tomorrow I get to show my nephew Sooty and Sweep again. It may be a kids' show, but at least it wasn't a shit kids' show. Or a naff "talent" (freak) show.
|
its like Big Brother, it used to be alright but ive seen the housemates this year and there so F**KING annoying is unbeleveable.
|
I find it astonishing that someone actually thinks that it was once even slightly alright. I have always seen it as "doylum" television, as have several other folk I know. Each to their own, I suppose.
|
well as you live in england you have proberbly seen how the quality of british television has gone down over the last few years, expecialy with saturday night TV, theres usualy nothing on. I feel sorry for the terrestral viewers with only 5 channels.
|
Actually, TV's always been shit over here. There are only a few programmes that are worth mentioning - Starsky and Hutch, Doctor Who (the old ones. And call me what you will for watching it), Quantum Leap, Magnum, The Goodies, Rab C. Nesbitt, Only Fools and Horses, Father Ted, Blackadder and a whole load of other comedies. Not many of those programmes are British. I love British comedies, and British programming seems to be the best, but that doesn't stop most of it being shit. And not all of those were British. But the real British show was Sooty, which I have mentioned a dozen times. But I only think so because I remember it from being small. However, when I sit down with my nephew and watch them, I do wonder how many people misinterpreted the hand puppet references (for example, "You'd be crying if it was my right hand, wouldn't you?") for masturbation jokes.
|
"Only fools and horses" is a good example. But its also like the programs i used to watch when i was little, such as Pingu and Paddington Bear are all now computer generated and really rubbish. I also remember sooty ans sweep, did they have to get rid of it because of sootys name apparently being racist? I also like "Life on Mars" also.
|
As far as I'm aware, Sooty's still going. My youngest nephew's been watching it on CITV. Even Sooty's gone to shit, but it's still going.
Life on Mars is excellent, also. |
ha also. i didnt know sooty is still going, i always liked CBBC, but i look now and think the presenters are soo wierd and strange. i suppose its their job but, why?
|
That's the reason that I enjoy the old Sooty, despite my age - neither of the presenters were condescending. When the new fellow came along, he seemed alright, but the woman that did it with him (I know that someone here will turn that into innuendo) seemed to be very patronizing. And the writers fucked it up, too. Actually, because it's something I remember, and therefore care about quite a bit, I took some time to have a look at Mr. Cadell's website, and have found out through an interactive messageboard in which the children can talk to the characters (the gullible children, anyway) that he now owns the franchise, and intends to uphold the traditional values of the show. I have a feeling that he's talking about Harry's son's era though (what was his name? Matthew or something?), which is when I started to grow out of it. I learnt all of this from Sweep, by the way.
|
kids can talk to the presenters... i dont like the sound of that.
The thing is though, the memories will always be better than anything they make now. By the way, there was a show when i was little (1992 - 1996) and it had a character called sydney, and they went to this island on a plane and ran out of fuel then crashed onto a snake. Does anyone know what show i mean, because id love to find it again. Thanks |
If you want to talk anime, make another thread so I can ignore it please.
Peep Show is awesome, How I Met Your Mother is shite. |
