Thanks for telling us that!

Oh, good. You have it now. So, before what, anyway? What changed?

lbyrd2 12-09-2008 08:30 PM

I meant I haven't played it yet, but I will probably get it on stream when it comes out.

abe is now! 12-10-2008 07:21 AM

Who was his prevoius? I haven't understood it

Oh, my god. That was completely unintelligible.

Nate 12-10-2008 04:24 PM

Intelligible enough to me. Perhaps AiN is speaking at too high a level for you OANST?

The previous president of Oddworld Inhabitants was Lorne. Now he's stepped aside from that role to focus on being creative director.

I think Xavier already told us that, in the first post.

Wil 12-12-2008 11:02 AM

I think Nate was specifically answering AIN’s question.

I really didn't know that this was the question being asked. I was honestly confused.

Chocolate Hunter 12-13-2008 03:22 AM

It all seems like good news to me. Lorne's now free to do everything he does best without getting bogged down by all of the paperwork, and Citizen Siege will have time to breathe. I'd rather wait a while than see an Oddworld movie next year that didn't live up to my expectations, because I have to admit they're pretty high.

Nate 12-13-2008 04:05 AM

Well, the good news is that you're definately not going to see an Oddworld movie next year that won't live up to your expectations.

lbyrd2 12-13-2008 01:28 PM

does that mean no movie or CS is coming out next year now?

Xavier 12-13-2008 02:23 PM

It's pretty safe to assume nothing is coming out next year as no official announcements have been made.

Hobo 12-17-2008 12:52 PM

Oh how I wish I had powers in Zulag one.

Makes W&B seem like heaven.

How could this happen?! He better not mess this up, or else there's going to be a really big riot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OANST 01-14-2009 05:54 PM

A riot of one if need be!

Look, man. Something needed to be done. There are some good ideas rolling around in that place but there have been some bad business decisions as well. We will never see anything if the money dries up.

O.W.I.Freak 01-14-2009 05:57 PM

Right, good point.

shaman 01-15-2009 02:03 PM

oddworld shall rise!

lbyrd2 01-15-2009 08:08 PM

and then handout cupcakes!!!

Nate 01-15-2009 09:20 PM

Stop spamming, please.

shaman 01-16-2009 07:35 AM

just wanted to make sure everyone knew...

SlagoTheSlig 01-16-2009 01:56 PM

I hope he doesn't ruin the oddworld series...

Chronicler 01-16-2009 08:20 PM

^Bad outlook for Oddworld's future? eh?

I don't care how well-recieved the next Oddworld game/movie will turn out, just as long as Larry does his job right and another product of Oddworld Mythology is made I'll automatically love it ..... unless it includes Clakkerz again ....

I still prefer calling them Hickens. And I also would like to never encounter them again.

shaman 01-18-2009 11:06 AM

whats wrong with them.

they have just as much right to exist as you or i!

NOTE:

The above comment may have sounded like shaman thought that the clackers were real live things but it in no way means that

I live in the U.S. and many on my mother's side of the family are from the deep south. I've lived amongst the Hickens. I have no wish to encounter them in real life or other.

shaman 01-19-2009 02:17 PM

point taken... :)

Volsung 01-19-2009 04:19 PM

My issue with the Clakkerz is mostly their design. The idea of redneck characters isn't inherently bad--after all, it's nice to see the culture that consumes all the Glukkon/Vykker made products, and using an archetype of ignorant, racist, frozen dinner, easy cash frontier folk makes sense. But it's frustrating that the analog is so direct: they're human sized chickens. they walk and talk like deep south rednecks. We get it. Why couldn't they have pushed the idea further and given us a new view of the same thing? Mudokons evolved from birds, but they're decidedly not just large birds or funky humans.

I like to think that this kind of half-baked (read: thinly veiled real world reference) that we saw in SW was a result of Lorne having to spread his attention thin with business and economic matters. Putting someone else in control of the day-to-day business while retaining creative control of the IP will hopefully allow Oddworld to develop into a more fully-realized and increasingly distinct world in future games/movies. A new president suggests that there's plenty of behind the scenes activities, so I'm cautiously optimistic for new titles in the foreseeable future. Like 2 or 3 years.

Bullet Magnet 01-20-2009 10:50 AM

The idea was that they living banal lives similar to that of farmyard animals, though, yes, we do seem to have been beaten over the head with the concept. I actually prefer their realisation in the concept designs prior to modelling. They still looked like chickens, but decidedly weird chickens.

What gets me most is their wings. The other species on Oddworld have a skeletal structure that makes sense, but clakkers use their primaries as fingers! I'd prefer it if they had given them birdlike claws for hands, much like Chris Riddle and Paul Stewart. did with the avian Shrykes in the Edge Chronicles.
