Maybe Stranger would be angry because so many Steef died. He can eventually kill Sekto.

How is that pointless?!
|
But why Stranger, I want to see the good old Oddworld....No western setting..
|
Why try to inhibit OWI's creativity by forcing them to make the same rehashed genre and settings over and over again?
Stranger's Wrath wasn't what everyone was after but it was a breath of fresh air that gave Lorne a chance to develop Mudos outside of the Quintology's focused POV. |
But this I dont understand...World in Munch's Oddysee was very high tech, like our world few years later, but in Stranger, the world was set in a world that looked like from some spaghetti western.
|
Ever been to Africa, boy? Same deal.

What's wrong with the western setting? The rest of the games only have an overall "anywhere" setting. You get deserts, industrial sectors, military installations, deciduous forests, wildlife preserves and native ruins all over the world.
|
Stranger's Wrath was only a western in environment for the first two towns. It was then only a western in other respects until the reveal.
If the game began with the reveal FMV, no one would think of it as a western at all. |
:
The lack of technology in the Clackerz towns and surrounding countryside was all part of the style, and said a lot about the Clackerz and the outlaws. It's one of the small things that makes the setting and atmosphere of the game brilliant and more feasible, if you get my meaning. Oh yeah, you gotta remember that Munch wasn't really thought out properly. EDIT: One more thing. Stranger is losely western at first but later on he goes through different environments as the game progresses. Like everyone else here said, calling it a "Western style" game doesn't do it justice. If you bothered to play it, you'd find out that it has just as much Oddworld atmosphere and depth as any other oddworld game, even on par with Abe's Oddysee in some parts. And it has a hell of a lot more depth than Munch, that's for damned sure. |
Every place on Oddworld is different in technology.
|
I dont want to repete myslef again, but I must compare this to Metal Gear. Abe is like Snake in MGS. It is a character , that you have a some kind of relationship. In MGS2 you were playing as Raiden....That doesn't fit to all of the gamers. They wanted their character (Snake - Abe) back...But don't get me wrong, I am not comparing Stranger to Raiden..;-)
|
Pointless analogy and highly flawed because while MGS2 was a direct sequel to MGS1 (based only on title), Stranger's Wrath was in no way a sequel to Munch's Oddysee.
|
How do you know that Stranger won't meet Abe and Munch?
|
Actually he might...
there I said it... |
It would be col if Stranger turns out to be Squeek.
|
I would like to take this opportunity to publicly disagree with MeechShrykull1029, and raise him one "it would be cool if Aslik's (suddenly homeless) tapeworm turns out to be Squeek."

it's amazing I've never heard about that.

Okay lemme clear things up. If you decide Oddworld is all about Abe, stop playing, quit the forums. Because Oddworld will NOT be all about Abe. We need more of the new stuff as well as the old stuff. I thought Stranger's Wrath was beautiful, it really gave off that Oddworld feel. Sorry MeechShrykull, but Stranger being Squeek is a retarded idea. It's been said thousands of times that Stranger's Wrath isn't part of the quintology, and it isn't going to be. Squeek will most likely be of a new species or one which hasn't been mentioned often.
|
I know this is alittle off the recent discussion, and I know that interview says Nod is just a rummor but I swear I heard Lorne mention it as part of the Quintology after Squeek. It was in this CD I got with the AO strategy guide for PC, it was with GW press. I've been looking for it, but now I'll look harder.
..And for the Habitales and Fearitales, I still have the original text that describes them from the original Oddworld site- the one before the Ten years site. Just thought I'd put it out there if anyone wants me to put it up. |
Wow. Have you got anything else from the original Oddworld site?
|
yeah I got as much as I could from the old site. I have all the old character profiles and stars and maybe some other stuff.
|
Oooh. I'm sure Xavier and Max would love to get their hands on that stuff.
Also, one item I've been wanting to get my hands on for years; do you have the page that said a story about how some beaurocrat at GT Interactive didn't like Abe's Oddysee, so he set up a meeting between Lorne and his boss. He anticipated that the boss would immediately cancel the game but instead he liked it so much that he increased the budget, drawing resources away from that beaurocrat's projects. |
I've got plenty of texts from the old site, but I'd love to have yours too in case I missed something! And of course, everything else that's oddworld related.
And I'd love the content of that cd too :D |
My bad it was txts when they first announced MO and the other is HoO is must have remembered differently. I printed out alot of the old stuff when I was young and somehow still have it. The other stuff I have is the old Oddworld history page, SoulStorm nutritional facts, Bill the blind mudoken as Employee of the Month, and just a whole bunch of magazine articles of MO.
Xav, I'll be looking for that CD bud:) I just cant remember where I put it but It's gotta be here somewhere, I also remember it showing them sculpting one of their clay modles of some unknown creature that I don't think I've even seen in concept art; definately gotta find it now. |
We had all the text from the old Oddworld.com on TOA, I’ve still got it, and it’ll go up on TOS when I find the time. I can’t find anything about your favourite anecdote, though, Nate.
This CD is a bit of an enigma. I’ve asked people before if they have it, but they’ve never made any promises to find it and share the contents. If you can recover this stuff, Oddsville, we could only love you more. (And Happy 1600th Post.) |
I've been kicking myself for the last two months that I forgot to ask Lorne about it.
