Breed a native spider? Biggest one we got here are those brown house-spiders...

Here too. There are two species: Tegenaria domestica, the domestic house spider (or barn funnel weaver spider), and Tegenaria duellica, the giant house spider, which is plenty big enough to be kept as a pet, as I did once. Sans terrarium.

I have mild Arachnophobia. Spiders pretty much scare me more than anything in the world. There aren't many spiders where I live though, so it's not that much of a problem for me. I don't get full-on scared when I see a spider in a video game though, although it does look a tiny bit disgusting.

Since I live in Darkhood's house, I have to deal with giant house spiders and wolf spiders, which live in every corner, behind curtains, at the ceiling, everywhere.
But I have no problem with it, I even love spiders and I love picking them up and looking at their eyes.
Yeah, indeed, they are so large that I can count every single eye and see their tiny teeth. I got bitten by one once but it didn't hurt and nothing happened either.
Spiders really don't harm you except when they you live in Australia and unconditionally must go down your cellar without light because you think it's free from Redback spiders. XD

Anyway, all you can do is confront yourself with those animals and study them in books, look at them how beautiful and interesting they actually are. You will be also very thankful to know that a spider in your room ate the mozzy, which wanted to bite you last night.

I had some kind of a "mobile fly catcher",a little jumping spider even. I loved watching it hunt. There is no fear for spiders...

The only kind of spiders I don't like are camel spiders. Muaaaaah... buaahh

Not spiders...

Man, I am such a pedant.

Ok, I had a repeat of the huge spider waking me up, but this time it was with a weta the size of my fist.

and cicadas have been landing on me, and they have pretty immense impact for an insect.

Wetas and cicadas are actually pretty awesome, they're just attracted to me and they freak me out when they unexpectedley land on me.
