Wow. These replies are a little surprising. Why are you all so stupid? Like, really stupid?

The main thrust of this 'argument' isn’t so much about whether gay pride is a logical thing (as many have pointed out, quite rightly, it isn't - though some put it in terms rather more needlessly aggressive than that), but that, like, the entire gay display is rather weird and perverse, right?

**** off, who cares, you ****ing idiot. The main point of this thread is that a Gay Pride Parade's fashion sense is all out of whack and making some great issue out of it, and how that relates to the position of gays in society. Jesus, what a retard. And so are all of you for going 'oooh, yeah, I'm with you Havoc!' only to say the bleedin' obvious, you ****ing nitwits.

Besides all this nonsense, you seem to have missed a very important and salient fact: gay pride schtick is 80% having a laugh and being outrageous, 20% making a point. Though I’m probably inflating the importance of the latter. And that’s it, some people having fun, ZOMG. No further analysis needed.

EDIT: Sorry for going off topic. Well, I think that Mutual Friend has a point, that to an extent we are simply pointing out common sense methods that most people should know. I think it is largely the presence of this sort of hyperdefense mentality in the gay community and others that are causing some of the continued problems.

Mutual Friend 04-16-2007 02:22 PM

Edited due to gracious withdrawl. :)

The world is good.

EDIT No. 2: Wait a tick, it wasn't gracious at all! I've just been accused of furthering the problems of gay men (don't care about the women) across the globe. Wow... just wow.

A) It's hardly hyper-defensive, to do that it need to be an actual issue for people... like, is being gay unnatural, or whatever. THAT was hyper-annoyance at grand idiocy.

B) How does hyper-definisveness largely cause the continued problems for gay people, Patrick? Or was that just a piece of soundbite nonsense, hmm?

Patrick Vykkers 04-16-2007 02:25 PM

Sorry about that. I moved it to PM now.

Meh. Back on topic.

I don't necessarily believe parading it around is the best idea, but the Irish side of me is telling me to shut up, as they're usually very drunken nights.

Alcar...

Mutual Friend 04-17-2007 12:54 PM

Lets just rename them Gay Nonchalance Parades, to allow people to get over a skip in logic.

Patrick Vykkers 04-17-2007 02:48 PM

I wasn't accusing you of hyperdefensiveness, I was accusing the people organising the parades of hyperdefensiveness. It's like putting a firebomb in the house of a guy saying Hinduism is intolerant, or commiting nonconsensual acts with the daughter of a guy sayings Democrats or Republicans are perverts.

Mutual Friend 04-17-2007 03:57 PM

Only... it really isn't like those things at all, is it? :)

For one thing, I fail to see how the extravagances of a Gay Patrol are hyper-defensiveness. It's more a case, the lesser part that's making a 'point', of putting It out there regardless of what people think. If it was just a bunch of gays in suits and bowler hats grimly marching up along some streets where the sucker punch? Or the fun, more importantly?
