I tried hugging a tree, but fir trees hate me...:(

But I'd still probably side with the natives, then go on a tree killing spree after I've been through the game once.

I myself have always preferred the industrial aspect of Oddworld. The creatures that ran the facilities, as well as the facilities themselves always seemed more interesting to me than the natives and wildlife.

I hate the darkness of the industriality, I just love it on AO and AE, I have no idea why, it must be the beautiful backgrounds, with that blue glow! :p

Can't those new Oddworld XBox games run on XBox 360 too? Sorry, but I'm very dumb on game consoles...

Xavier 02-11-2007 04:11 AM

you mean MO and SW, no they can't be played on Xbox360

Fateless 02-11-2007 09:29 AM

What a shame, I feel like missing out on a lot because I never bought a Xbox. I wished MO & SW were atleast ported to other consoles or the pc as well.

Arxryl 02-11-2007 03:05 PM

That would have been cool, but originally they wanted to. But Sony couldn't produce it in time, and Oddworld needed to release it sooner so they just had X-box produce MO. SW had the same problem I believe. Not too sure, but... I'm sure that Max, Nate, or Xavier probably knows the whole story, so you could probably visit TOL to learn more.

Xavier 02-12-2007 04:12 AM

lol

MO was developped on the PS2 but for some reasons Lorne did not like that platform and jumped to the Xbox as soon as it was possible to develop for it.
So they re-started almost everything but for Xbox. They had an Xclusive contract for the next few game with Microsoft, so no PS2 or PC version was even tried.

After that they did SW (Xclusive for Xbox), but Microsoft threw them away so they went to EA. EA wanted to do a port for PS2 but failed to do it because the game was designed to take all the power out of the Xbox.

So EA lost interest and only released the Xbox version.

Fateless 02-12-2007 07:08 AM

I can imaging why they wouldn't bother with a PS2 version anymore, as it would mean they had to invest time to alter the entire game to PS2's standard.
I don't understand however; why they never bothered releasing both games on the pc.

Jordan 02-12-2007 07:24 AM

I'd have liked them for PC. PS2's crappy engine and graphics wouldn't be able to handle MO and SW, the beauty of them would destroy it. I WISH they released it for PS2 just for it to be blown up. :p

The PS2 was the best-selling console of that generation. Hiring another company to port it to the PS2 would have increased their sales drastically. As for the PC; I really doubt the style of platforming in MO and SW would have suited a keyboard. Look at Psychonauts - awesome game but it just doesn't work on the PC.

Hmmm, I have an idea! Even better, I bet someone has thought of it already! But here it is, get Oddworld AO and AE on the Xbox Live Arcade!

moxco 02-12-2007 09:03 PM

Talking About Arcade at the local bowling ally they use to have an arcade game machine and they didnt have the full version of AE on it but more then half the demo.

Jordan 02-12-2007 10:14 PM

I don't think OWI ever released any Oddworld arcade machines, and it would be impossible to do gamespeak.

Some people talked about it, yup. And I'd love to play AO and AE on my Xbox360

But I think the folks at OWI are a bit too busy to concentrate on that, maybe a bit before the Oddworld movie launch (7 years, wich is a guess)

Jordan 02-13-2007 06:06 AM

 7 years!? Neoooooooooo! PLEASE Jordan, don't be too busy by the time you're 20!

Xavier 02-13-2007 11:40 PM

It's only a guess, it could be more or a bit less

Arxryl 02-15-2007 02:11 PM

Well, we can still bide our time by playing AO, AE, MO, SW or coming here to reminisce the glories of the games and argue with/yell at eachother.

snuzi 02-15-2007 04:08 PM

Very true. So, either way, we'll be occupied :).
