Who gives a crap if it was close to the comic book storyline?
Comic books are for kids.

Yes, comics are for kids.
But still, it really kinda stunk. And yes I understand that they aren't supposed to be super close to the comics, but I didn't really like it and at least now they won't make an X-men 4.

And just recently I saw the movie monster house with my family. Well, I didn't see all of it, I was doing other stuff, but the parts I watched were okay. Wasn't the best movie I have ever seen, but it's not the worst either.

I like manga [pretty much comic books] and I'm damn proud. Damn damn proud! XD

Oh yeah? How do you explain Johnny the Homicidal Maniac?

Ugh, i can't stand manga. It makes my skin crawl.

The only manga that's good, in my opinion, is the Battle Royale one. Any other kind eally irritates me. As does anime althogether.

Mutual Friend 12-19-2006 02:46 PM

Depends what sort of comic book. I don't read them, but, yeah, of course some are for adults, some are for kids, and some in the middle. No discussion. I just loathe the format.

I watched the first part of Hogfather and was pretty confused. It all seemed pretty vague and slow moving. Was quite pretty to look at though (the only other British telly with such scope is Doctor Who), which is nice. I wasn't paying full attention at the time, so that might have been it. Plus, the sense of humour really didn’t chime with me. Didn't catch the second part!

I have recently watched an Australian film (don't hold that against it) called Sweetie, the debut feature of Jane Campion (a woman... director:eek:!) Was alright, it was too self-consciously visually idiosyncratic for the most part, and the acting was iffy... it was alright. Very feminine film, in quite a negative sense. No, but it was quite good really, I suppose, just not my sort of thing.

Manga is cool. Comics are for younger audiences, but graphic novels are cool.

And this "hogfather" movie... what is it about?

Actually, no they're not :). Far from it, actually.

OANST 12-19-2006 03:46 PM

I don't think you quite understood what he is saying. JTHM may be intended for adults but adults won't read them because they are nowhere near as funny or intelligent as the people who read them or the people who wrote them think they are. In fact, they suck.

snuzi 12-19-2006 04:04 PM

Well, it depends on a person's taste, I suppose. I, myself am a big fan of Jhonen Vasquez's artwork and humor. I've even tried to make my drawing style similar to his over the years.

OANST 12-19-2006 05:09 PM

So.......You've attempted to rip off the style of some little goth punk who thinks he's edgy? I don't think you should tell many people about that.

snuzi 12-19-2006 07:47 PM

Um, no. I haven't tried to rip him off in any way. I'm just most comfortable drawing in a style similar to his, since I've gotten used to it over the years.

'Similar' is just tiptoeing around the issue. Lolololololololololol!

If people want good graphic novels (comicslol), check out the Maus series.

snuzi 12-19-2006 10:12 PM

Look, the style in which I draw is not the issue here. We were discussing if comics are childish, not whether or not I am "ripping off" someone's style. Just drop it, already.

In my opinion, whether or not a comic/graphic novel/manga/etc. is good all depends on the person who is reading it. You can't call a particular person childish just because he or she enjoys reading them. Once again, it's all a matter of the person's taste, and you should respect that, rather than put them down. If you put them down, it only makes you seem childish.

ANN NEELY 12-20-2006 02:04 PM

I love JTHM and Maus, they're my favorite comic books.

On Topic: I just wathced Gamera vs. Barugon. Really really stupid movie. See for yourself: With MST3K action!

Someone is trying to change the subject to avoid something.

Saw Hostel last night. What a piece of crap. Various amusingly gorey happenings gives it: 2 shits out of a possible 19.

Not at all. It's just a pointless conversation, since it has nothing to do with the topic. What would I be trying to avoid, anyway?

I just finished watching Wall Street in my economics class. The movie was really good. It's really interesting how large amounts of money can make people do things they wouldn't normally do.

Totally agree. What a stupid movie. Especially since the first 45 minutes of it was porn.

Goresplatter 12-21-2006 04:32 PM

Super Munch, can't remember how to quote, but would if I could.

The Hogfather movie... erm, if you haven't read Terry Pratchett at all I don't think it's worth explaining, as with Discworld there's... alot of new concepts to grasp, let's put it that way. :P

Arxryl 12-21-2006 05:25 PM

A movie I've recently viewed is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. I enjoy watching it as it has it's funny parts.

snuzi 12-23-2006 07:17 AM

I just watched Memento for the second time yesterday. I love that movie. It was really something.

Leto 12-23-2006 01:48 PM

Momento is half decent, indeed.

Especially since the first 45 minutes of it was porn.
But you still like the Saw series?

Found that Dracula vs Frankenstein was on MGM late last night. Good stuffs, can never get sick of it. 8 muffs out of 6.

But you still like the Saw series? 8 muffs out of 6.

As far back as I can remember, Saw has nudity, not porn. Two entirely different things. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Leto 12-23-2006 07:39 PM

You're not wrong, but Hostel was certainly made to appeal to the Saw market.

Muff is just an amusing word.

snuzi 12-25-2006 06:02 AM

I just saw Lady in the Water. Ugh. That movie was a waste. M. Night Shamalamalamalama must have been under the influence of when he thought it up.

Arxryl 12-25-2006 03:37 PM

I just saw Night at the Museum. I really enjoyed the movie and I think it is pretty good, especially for families.

A movie I've recently viewed is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. I enjoy watching it as it hilarious as **** and must be quoted frequently throughout Christmas. "If he starts humping your leg, just let him go."

Fixed for you.

Arxryl 12-29-2006 11:41 AM

Thank you kindly for that. ;)

Leto 12-29-2006 12:25 PM

Flushed Away went above my low expectations, but they could have done it stopmotion with cg water. Slugs were great but certainly were milked at the end.

I loved that film when I saw it in the summer! I cried and everything [but I hate it that he casts himself in every god damn film! The man has no acting ability, when will he learn!?], it's so sweet; not like his other films at all.

Also, am I the only person who believes that the kids in Adrift deserved to die as they were stupid enough to jump off a boat with no way of getting back onto it?

I just saw two movies:

Eragon - OH. MY. GOD. Best freaking movie ever! If you have only one movie to see before you die, see this one. It gave me the HUGEST sex crave for WoW.

A Night At the Museum - I loved it. Good humour, good acting, good movie.
